Interesting comments re. shingles vaccination.
It seems to me that those like me who only had the one jab have had little reaction - I say this advisedly as I normally react to everything.
Those with two jabs appear to have a dreadful time with the second…

Good morning from a wet but warmer Leicestershire.

SS delivered an indoor trolley for DH yesterday so he can carry things around. He celebrated by emptying the dishwasher, the only problem was it hadn’t not been on!
It will be a huge help though.

Playing Scrabble this afternoon with a couple of friends.

Wishing everyone the best day possible, several of you are especially in my thoughts.

Good morning, still trapped in here in the Midlands, the snow and ice not moved so another day in.
Have a lovely time GrannyGravy with your friends.
It seems everyone except for me and Melanie are able to get out, so maybe it might clear here soon.

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s still cold here -1 at the moment, a bit cloudy, but with a few clear bits so I can see the moon. Wind and rain are forecast for later I think, with less cold weather on the way.
DD2 and family visited yesterday morning , she made toast for littlest, but the toaster caused the electrical sockets throughout the house to stop working. Some detective work by her partner and my next door neighbour solved the problem and all is well again. My friendly electrician confirmed the diagnosis and will order a new consumer unit (modern fuse box) for me. The present one is 19 years old but is apparently absolutely ancient in electrical terms!
DD2 moved the lounge furniture back to its usual position for me and I took down some of the fairy lights so the house is looking quite drab again.
Hopefully DD1 and family will visit this afternoon and my son in law will put the Christmas stuff back in the loft. I may go for a walk this morning. I need to do a serious tidy of the house, not only Christmas stuff, but also lots of books and photos that I brought back from my godmother’s bungalow on New Year’s Eve. I know there’s a lot more still in the bungalow to be sorted out, I’m not talking furniture, but ornaments and more books, that kind of thing.

grandmattie, perhaps your neighbour isn’t ready to socialise just yet, but I’m sure you’ll be able to persuade him to come to a coffee morning soon.
pantglas I hope the paracetamol helps the shingles vaccination side effects and that your dad is ok.
susan I hope that your brother is able to reassure you about your mum after his visit today. I hope the snow will clear sufficiently to enable you to visit her yourself soon.
melanie wishing you a safe journey home in the snow.

Sending health giving vibes to all those who are in pain and hugs to those struggling for any reason.
Have the best day possible everyone, stay warm and dry.

Good morning all from the Scottish borders. It's quiet outside so no storms yet.

I came home yesterday from my Scottish island holiday to a cold house so after unpacking and a cup of tea , I had a hot bath and came to bed with an extra duvet.

The ferry and bus journey was really very good but took a long time. I found a nice café in snowy Inverness for lunch.

My new tenants are moving in to part of my house tomorrow so I shall warm up that flat and make it comfortable for them.

Other things are happening tomorrow too. I'm to be fitted with a new Broadband and will lose my landline.

Keep cosy and keep safe everyone.

Good morning all from N Bucks where it is less cold but wet and raw.
I don’t post as much as I used to because I can’t imagine my domestic trivia are worth relaying or really of much interest.
However today I am looking forward to a performance of I Puritani streamed from the Met at the very civilised ( ie full of oldies like me) art house cinema in Northampton. I hope to see a few of my opera-loving friends there although some may have seen it last night in MK.
On the domestic trivia front I made a big pot of chilli yesterday and a big pressure cooker-full of French Onion soup, a favourite in this chilly weather. I tried to watch an animation called Marcel the Shell With Shoes on last night for my Film Studs course - has anybody seen it?
I wouldn’t bother, I gave up after 20 minutes of my life I’ll never get back.
Wishing you all a peaceful Sunday and relief from pain or distress.

Good morning from S E Essex where it’s currently dry and 1°

I am off to London this morning with 12 gym pals (some originated as school gate Mums some I have known since I was at school, some we just met at the gym) Lunch at a favourite Italian Restaurant and then the last performance this year of the Palladium Pantomime (Nigel Havers, Julian Clary, Katherine Tate and many others) it’s our final sign off to Christmas each year.

Hopefully I will have a few minutes to pop into Liberty’s if it’s open as I want to look at a makeup brand which is only sold there or online here in the U.K.

I was rather down and in the doldrums most of yesterday, but I have given myself a stern talking to, and hopefully I have turned the corner to lighter times (my moods are definitely guided by the weather and amount of light)

Thinking of those who are not posting and with many troubles and ills 🙋‍♀️

Penpal 😘 ((hugs)))

Good morning all from polmont where it's currently 3° and wet. It's a bit milder than last week thank goodness. pantglas sorry to hear about your reaction. I had a very sore arm from the shingles jag. Susan I've been thinking of you. GrandMattie I'm another who thinks your ds has a really interesting life.
Yesterday I did very little apart from some housework and washing. I definitely have been suffering from the January Blues since New Year. That, and cold weather has affected me.
Today I will go to aldi when it opens for some bits and pieces. I expect dd to pop in with the boys - and her washing to dry! I'm planning to clear out my airing cupboard which houses all the sheets, towels etc. It needs a thorough tidy. If i achieve that, I'll be happy. Dinner will be gammon, mash and cabbage. Have a good day all

Good morning from s somerset, grey and wet here all day

I have visitors for lunch and need to be busy soon. I had a poor sleep last night, congestion due to dry air and the humidifier was too noisy when the room is usually silent.

I am going to concentrate on my residual hip ache which is also disturbing sleep. A few basic measures and I will try some bed alterations for tonight

Anyway, I will have my big mug of tea and get myself motivated. I do wish visitors for lunch would give me a bit more notice esp when it involves food sensitivities

Have a good day

Gagagran Sun 11-Jan-26 07:18:21

Good Morning everyone from a still chilly south central coast but should start to get milder from today. Do hope so.

DH got the front garden back under control yesterday and has booked a slot at the tip on Tuesday to donate the results. I was delighted to see the masses of daffodils we have are already well up. They had been sheltered by the now cut-back stuff. I do love spring bulbs.

Laundry and other domestic chores today and smoked trout and Cornish new potatoes for lunch. Yum. All the festive naughty bits have now gone so back to a normal, careful eating regime.

Good wishes, especially to all those poorly, sad or struggling are winging their way to where they are needed. sunshine

Greyduster Sun 11-Jan-26 07:16:41

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a very cold South Yorkshire. The boiler has just kicked in but it will have to work hard this morning. We are in for a wet, sleety day. Yesterday was very sedentary - apart from a short skirmish into Aldi and replenishing the bird table with home made fat balls I didn’t go out.
Today will be much the same but I will phone DS at some stage for a chat and make myself the stir fry I was supposed to have made yesterday but couldn’t be bothered. I ate very little yesterday. I have an art project to start so today would be a good day to try that out.
Have the best day you can folks.

Susan56 Sun 11-Jan-26 07:15:51

Good morning from our corner of Shropshire where the snow is finally beginning to disappear and rain is forecast for most of the day.

Another day at home.We will get as organised as we can for the week ahead and then another quiet afternoon reading.

My brother will visit mum today so will get his report later on.

Sorry you are suffering after the shingles jab Pantglas and hope the GP visit with your dad goes well🙏🏻

A shame the weather means your holiday is being cut short Melanie.Safe journey home.

Nice to have an unexpected call from your son grandMattie. What an interesting life he has.

Thoughts with all mountaineers and wishing everyone the best day possible🙏🏻🦩🌻

RosesandLilac Sun 11-Jan-26 07:14:28

Good morning, it looks damp outside but it was heavy frost four hours ago so I guess it’s going to be icy. Again. I just hope there isn’t any more snow forecast for us here in south Glos.

I’m going to do my wardrobe sort out today, it’s well overdue! I have far too many clothes crammed in and I don’t wear 80%+ of them so that’s my morning plan after walking the dogs.

Yesterday dog walks were horrendous as black ice everywhere and I’d taken the YakTrax off my boots because DH said it wasn’t 😬 It didn’t get above freezing all day.

There’s a pork joint for dinner with roast potatoes and apple pie to follow, I fancy mashed swede too. I’ll get some braising beef out to defrost in the fridge for a casserole tomorrow.
Best wishes to everyone 🌹

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 11-Jan-26 07:13:54

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. I think the heavy frost from last night has cleared to be replaced by rain.

I should go to church this morning but I am still having a reaction to my toe antibiotics. I need to be near a loo! I had checked with my GP and he said to carry on with them.

I cleared out my sideboard yesterday. I use it to house all the Christmas bits and pieces apart from the tree decorations which go in another cupboard.

OH has taken over running the U3A lunch club so was getting up to speed with all the admin.

Have a good day everyone. I am thinking of all of those with difficulties. FGT2S 🌹

Good morning from Malta where it looks like a very windy day in store again with showers and a high of 14°C.

I had a lovely afternoon as DS and his gf brought the cat Winston for a visit! They went out to the gym etc so I had the pleasure of that dear cat sitting on my lap for four hours. He really is the best company.

It was vile weather , gale force winds and lashing rain so I was relieved when SiL came to pick me up saving me having to drive over to babysit the boys.

They were absolutely sweet and so funny. DGS2 is obsessed with wires and had two old lap tops set up with wires coming out of every possible aperture. ‘I’m busy’ he informed me. ‘This is my office,Nana’. 😄

They didn’t go to bed until 10.30 but were so good and I enjoyed every minute spent with them.

SiL drove me home at almost 2am when it was pouring down and so windy I got soaked just going from the car to my front door.

Sorry to hear you are suffering Pantglas. The shingles vaccine is not available in Malta as I had asked my doctor about it. She said she could get it for me but it would cost €300 so I declined the offer. Hope all will be well with your father. 🙏🏻

I’m going to brave the elements and go to Mass this morning, it’s less than a minute’s walk round to the Sanctuary so I have no excuse.

Hope our poorly good morningers are feeling better today and sending best wishes to all who are struggling. 🤗

Melanie61 Sun 11-Jan-26 06:58:43

Good morning from Scarborough.
We are going to have a lot of snow this morning so the wise thing to do is head back home I think
I would like to come back to this cottage when the weather is better . It’s in a lovely spot.
We wanted to walk part of the Cinder path, which is right next to the cottage.
It is a 22 miles disused railway track that runs from Scarborough to Whitby.
We may go to Beningbrough Hall, a National Trust property on the way home.
Take care everyone flowers

cornergran Sun 11-Jan-26 06:09:13

Morning Mick, morning All. Just peeped outside, no frost, the trees are swaying in a lively manner so it’s windy, rain due soon and getting milder according to the forecast.

It feels cold in here this morning. The heating doesn’t wake for a while yet. I could get out of bed and turn it on, the first decision of the day. Overall I’m not sure how today will unfold other than the kitchen fairy will meet Mr C’s request for roast pork and apple pie. There may well be some concentration on yesterday’s un-ticked list, a phone call or two, rationalising kitchen cupboard space. We’ll see.

Best wishes to everyone and a hope this Sunday is gentle with us all.

grandMattie Sun 11-Jan-26 05:30:13

Good morning from Bristol. Rain has fallen overnight and more is forecast, but it’s a lot milder.
I didn’t manage to get my neighbour to come with me to coffee, but I’ll persist. It was reasonably well attended with all the usual suspects, so I had a couple of nice chats.
To my surprise, DS called me in the afternoon and we had a really long conversation. He’s been to Dharmsala for the first time. It’s where the Tibetan government in exile and the Dalai Lama is based. He also said that the museum is very interesting.
He has turned out to be such a nice man, so interesting. When he was a teenager and in his early 20s, he was infuriating that I would have cheerfully knifed him!
Other church today (with tons of prayers for the mountaineers), I have little to look forward to.
Hugs to the strugglers, md, fgt, susan…. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩

Pantglas2 Sun 11-Jan-26 05:27:02

Good morning Mick and all who follow from a damp north Wales coast where I’m about to enjoy the chamberpot ☕️ and a couple of paracetamols - the Shingles jab on Friday has knocked me for six 😡 and I’m trying to be stoical, especially knowing that some on here have serious health worries 💐

A quiet weekend for us a PG Towers before a busy week ahead with Dad who has been summoned to GP tomorrow 🤷‍♀️- in my head I'm veering between It must be serious and Perhaps they’re just giving the all clear… all this while trying to play it cool with him as his health anxiety goes ballistic 🫨

A peaceful Sunday for all 🙏 x
