Whole nutmegs which I picked up from the ground in Grenada about thirty years ago. I still use it and it tastes just fine.

Ah, I have a whole nutmeg and miniature grater that my ex-husband brought back from a “work” trip to the Dominican Republic in 1998 (with a certain female colleague…)!

I found some Garam Masala dated 2015! Some spices get forgotten about!

I keep most of my herbs and spices in one of the drawers of my freezer as I was fed up with buying things that I only needed once in a while, and then having it go stale. I've not found the need to throw anything out since then.

We moved house in September 2024 so got rid of old stuff. However, my Dad died in January 2000. He’d moved into his flat in 1993. When I was sorting out his kitchen I found a jar (I think it was something like baking powder) with a use by date of 1972!! So he brought a 20 year old jar with him when he moved.

I still have tub of double cream unopened with 26th December use by date. Shall I put it up for auction to see who'll do the smell test?

Nothing past its sellby date. I'm paranoid about eating something bad.

Have a Christmas pudding from 2022. Well wrapped and sealed. Lots of brandy in it from what I recall so could be ok. Will find out one day 😂

I have tins of food so old that they pre-date use-by dates. And a cupboard chock-full of bottles of alcohol, some of which must date back at least 40 years. Groan.

Glad to know that I am not the only one with out of date things in my cupboards!
Having said that, it can't be 12 months yet since I went through them and got rid of a shameful number of out of date jars, bottles and tins.
However, I recently decided to repeat the exercise, expecting to get rid of almost empty items and was shocked to discover a dozen or so items years out of date. My grandson remembers helping me with the task last year so we have concluded that maybe the stock rotation at certain stores is not being done very efficiently. Coul it be that?
Well I have decided to make sure I take my specs shopping with me, so that I can check everything for dates from now on.

I did have a very very old tin of Golden Syrup once that could have belonged to Scott of the Antarctic!! But I did bin that mainly because it was solid and the lid was rusty.
Often when I find something old I distinctly remember buying it. Time flies.
I must have another sort soon. I think I bought lots of cans of tomatoes in Lockdown mainly as I had deliveries each week and had to push the price up to 40.00 I think so they were a useful extra.

Oh..I did just throw out some Gaviscon which was four years old !

Me ! I'm the oldest item in my larder, I'm never out of it looking for something nice and sweet to go with a cuppa, and there never is anything, cos I don't buy it !!!

Various spices, food colourings, arrowroot powder.

Cleaning products from before 2013. We moved here before vacating the previous property, so I had cleaning products in both places. I haven’t unpacked the box that came here later.

Who knows? Its a mystery what lurks there!!

I moved three years ago, so nothing is out of date, but I do have a pot of Vaseline best before 1987!

Not in the larder but I have a bottle of mead that my parents bought while visiting family on the Hamble, probably in the mid 1970s, dread the thought of opening it!

I will have a look tomorrow but I think it is several tins of elephant beans bought in Greece more than twenty years ago. I had a good recipe using them but lost it. !
