as well as Valentines day(14 February)
21st February
7th March and
14th March

England are in action in the Rugby six nations, all games kick off in the afternoon, for those who don't like sport as games will be shown free to air on either BBC or ITV.

Seems unfair to target Wetherspoons. In this town (home to a great rugby league team) plenty of pubs have sports bars.

Kate1949 Wed 14-Jan-26 09:49:30

Our local Wetherspoons don't show sport.

Samsara1 Wed 14-Jan-26 09:53:00

Ours don't either

Wetherspoons at the magnificent Golden Beam in Headingley do not allow entry to the Otley Run participants, so providing mayhem free enjoyment of the venue.
Just saying, like.

infoman, I’m now wondering if you work for Yates ?

We’ll be watching at home or in our local.

Why does the OP assume we are all rugby hating “Spoons” customers?

I love rugby however in the comfort of my own home.

Thank you for reminding me of these Rugby dates. I shall head to my local pub.

It's a bit of an "in joke" it seems to me. No point in saying either that one likes rugby (I do) or that one wouldn't be seen dead in Wetherspoons (ditto) confused

If I go into Spoons its usually earlier ,and avoid TV games which I can watch at home.

Why? Rugby supporters are a great crowd.

Kate1949 Wed 14-Jan-26 12:01:02

We're off to Spoons for lunch today smile

All the England games are on BBC or ITV free of charge unlike the top flight football games. My consideration is those pub goers who want to find a pub that is dog free.

I can't stand pubs that have the Sky Sports sign on the door, and sadly the two pubs nearest to me have Sky. This means if you want a quiet drink on a Saturday and Sunday, and most weekdays as well, it's impossible as football will be blasting out of three televsion sets. Also you have the immature, stupid fans shouting at the players and the match officials, who can't hear them,.
Sorry to anyone who likes football, but I really can't stand this overkilled, boring sport and coming from the North East originally, the whole Newcastle v Sunderland thing sent me to sleep.

Gave up on Wetherspoons when the boss was in favour of Brexit.

We don't go in there because the food is not great in our local one, although we have had better meals at others (and worse!)

I'll make a note of the dates, infoman and settle down with a bag of nuts and a white wine at home.

Ps not everyone is an England fan!

Our Wetherspoons is great, a real asset to the town. It’s brought life back to a beautiful old building that was falling into disrepair, it provides decent food and excellent drink choices at an unbeatable price. During the day it’s a popular choice for oldies like me who want to enjoy a decent brunch with unlimited tea/coffee in pleasant surroundings. The young staff are friendly and helpful. I don’t even know whether they show sports, but it’s huge, so I’m sure if they did I could avoid the screens.

Same here. Strangely enough the media don’t seem to ask him for his opinion on all things political these days. He was on tv all the time pre and post referendum.

Football, rugby I tend to be neutral about as it doesn't have the same exposure and the fans are better.
Regarding Wetherspoons in general, they can either be very good or very bad. You do have to bear in mind, the pubs are run on a shoestring to keep beer prices down and the meals are pre cooked and microwaved. Oddly, though, the meals can be quite good in some, and dismal in others.
