You can get all the ITX channels through ITVX ……..watch on demand and there’s NO adverts.

ITVx wth no ads is subscription based.

With modern TV technology there is no reason to watch them.

If you're watching in real time, how do you avoid them?

Start to record the programme you want to watch , then start watching the recording 10-15 minutes after the recording started.
When you get to the ad break you can fast forward past it.
The recording continues and you can usually get to the end without watching any ads.
If it’s a really long show then start the recording a bit further in.
We literally never watch adverts as we can’t stand them.

Well, yes, thank you, but I do know you can do that. As I said I'm talking about real time - recording a programme and starting to watch it later (however short a time later that is) is not real time.

I don't watch that much real time TV these days, but I almost dread watching in the afternoon. I can't imagine getting so over excited about a life assurance plan or my funeral.

What with the bloke and his parsnip glut who bullies his neighbour to phone the insurance company and the fat guy in the bath who thinks Millie was a smart cookie - you feel like topping yourself - maybe that's their plan!

I have received several packages from a firm promoting their funeral plans. They included sheets of stickers of Robins, which made pretty tags for Christmas presents.

I let the funeral ads wash over me, but I actually think seeing a younger, well presented wheelchair user reminds others that not all disabled people are old and decrepit.

Yes that did occur, except the ones I am thinking of are actually very patronising.

If younger people in wheelchairs were to choose how to portray themselves, I suspect it would be very differently?

A good example is that Specsavers advert "I don't go to specsavers!" where they go to peoples houses, and one of them is as it were coincidentally a younger wheelchair user.

Maybe it's because I don't watch daytime TV?

I keep fast forwarding them as I watch most things on my planner. But yes they drive me mad so bliddy deepressing!

(I've seen them on some daytime channel 5's as well)

I cant bear them! The chap in the bath makes me feel ill. They all seem to be looking forward to their funerals!

ITV 3 can be guaranteed to give you these adverts, I'm sure others are aware of them on other channels?

I guess you mean ones that pop up when you check out the Internet. That's one of the problems with the Internet - it "sees" you look something up even just a couple of times and "pigeonholes" you as = interested in it.

I don't get those - but I do get annoyed at the Internet has clearly clicked what agegroup I'm in and, as well as showing me things I'm interested in up pops lots of disability aid type stuff. Most depressing that they all clearly think "Getting older = getting iller". Thanks a bunch when I'm trying to think positive - and so howzabout them having a theme tune of "being older = being freer (ie as many of us no longer have to do a job to get our income thanks to retirement).

A positive take on it would be appreciated - like "Look at all the free time you now have - thanks to retirement".

I found myself humming the cremation folk song one the other day. Dreadful.

Funerals are for people who believe life goes on or that death is important to left behind loved ones. I dont fall into either of these categories so the adverts are aimed at naive people who believe giving a funeral home money honors their lost loved one. It doesnt. Its a sham
