Good Morning Sunday 25th Janaury 2026

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. It’s getting light, but looks cloudy out, the garden thermometer says it’s 6 degrees out. Yesterday was beautiful here, dry and sunny in the morning, but it clouded over in the afternoon. I didn’t bother with a walk , the recreation ground is always busy on Saturday mornings and I’m often forced off the paths and onto the muddy field. I did some washing, then managed a little gardening, using a small rake to pull out some weeds. I may try a bit more today if it’s not raining.
I may go for a walk this morning, then the ironing is calling me!

Storm Ingrid has certainly been causing problems in Devon and Cornwall, I hope things calm down a little today before the next gales and rain arrive tomorrow night.

I hope that all those who are struggling find some relief today.

Good Morning from the south coast. More rain forecast for today and the coming week. Hopefully all the aquifers and springs are now well stocked for the coming glorious spring and summer . Well we have to be optimistic!

Enjoying a book of Lionel Shriver short stories at present. What a writer she is. The first one that I can recall vividly was "Oranges are not the only fruit" and I look on the library shelves each time I go to spot others of hers.

Just chores on the agenda for today and making lunch - menu still to be decided from what is in the fridge or freezer. DH has a hearty appetite so I need to come up with meals for him that I would not choose for myself. I am glad he can eat though after the time when I thought he would not do so again.

Kind thoughts to all struggling with their burdens.

DH proposed after a Burns Night Supper 56 years ago. We had only met in the previous mid December.

Not a lot happening here today. DH's team are on TV this afternoon so that will loom large.

Good morning from Sheffield

I had my doing nothing yesterday. I tried to watch the old Nuremberg film, but goodness it was boring. I nodded off after an hour then couldn’t get to sleep last night.

A few years ago we went to Iceland, mainly to see the northern lights, saw nothing.
So we have booked to go to Tromsø in northern Norway next Feb . I know, it’s a long way off.
We looked at cruises but have booked an Airbnb apartment which looks great. I’m so excited. Has anyone been that can give me any tips ?
Definitely a northern lights tour and then I fancy dog sledding.

Today we are walking in the Peak District again, we enjoyed it that much last week.

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a raining but not too cold , dark morning in North Yorkshire. Ah well it is back to the drawing board! I am in very slow, painful mode this morning, with every move needing to be thought about, and so until things ease up a bit, I cant do much. Never mind, I cling on to the memory of my lovely day up Swaledale.

Yesterday I went early on the yellow peril to the market. They promised much rain later and wind so I was keen to beat the weather. So, mac and gloves on and bags at the ready, I set off. I actually , for once, just got the timing right, as the stalls were all open and ready for business and the bread shop and the paper shop were open. The kind lady in the bread shop brought my loaf to me , as she was near those loaves, and saved me from having to get off the buggy. I didnt need a great deal and managed to get what I wanted and some beautiful rhubarb, which I shall cook today. I was tempted to go to cafe nero's but resisted and returned home , got the shopping in and the buggy all covered ready for the anticipated rain, and then didnt do a great deal. I had coffee and started looking through the Yorkshire Post. It is my extravagance once a week on the saturday, as it now costs £3.50! However, it not only has the news, but the magazine and the countryside special bit, but the house and finance bit and the sport bit, so all in all a fair amount to enjoy and of course several crosswords and sudoko too. The sports page doesnt interest me much unless there is rugby or some equestrian things like dressage etc. I flick through it and then either pass it on to a neighbour, or leave it in the rack in Nero's for someone to enjoy. It usually provides me with interest until about wednesday one way and another and of course tells me what is on at the weekend so that I sometimes go off to a little show or garden mentioned in the paper.

After all the early rush, it actually stayed quite sunny and bright here for most of the day, and I got round to some jobs, and clearing up. Made dinner and looked through some emails etc and to bed. So todays start has not been a good one, and I can hear the rain more now, so looks as though I shall be getting on with the abandoned jobs from friday, and if it gets colder , the ironing has a good chance of being done. I shall be able to enjoy desert island discs and private passions as I go along, so hope for some lovely music.

Hope you have some good sports on today Mick. I do sometimes watch the skiing especially things like slalom and when they do the ski jump. Wish I had had the chance to ski when younger, but of course no chance now, although if I got the opportunity to go in a bob sleigh I would love it! GrandMattie you deserve a medal for all the effort you put in at your church. Hope you had a very peaceful evening and that today you return to a tidy and clean kitchen and that the rest of them have washed up and left it ready for a new day. You also had a busy day Bellasnana, hope you get to Mass and then have a peaceful day .

Well, I now need to creak my way to the kitchen, as feeling hungry takes over from trying to do little moving, to avoid pain. I will attempt some yoga after breakfast, in the hope that I can relax muscles and then it is on with the jobs.

The forecast is for more rain today, a yellow warning is in place for Monday and Tuesday. Lucky us!

Enjoyed a long if slightly envious chat with a son who is currently in the North East. He’d had a thoroughly enjoyable day at the new to him coast in sunshine. It was good to hear how the day had lightened his spirits.

Nothing of note here, more worrying news about our friend, more paper reduction, more jigsaw - the end of the latter is thankfully nigh.

A largely wait and see day ahead. Mr C will change the bedding, I’ll sanitise the kitchen after that excitement the day is our own.

Yesterday the boys turned up early afternoon and we had fun playing in the house at various things. They were very good. Dgs1 stayed up til 9 and then went to bed. So did I! I've had a decent sleep with only one trip to the loo.
Today the boys will be picked up late morning. There's no sound from them yet. Breakfast will be sausages and potato scone on a roll. In the meantime, I'm lying in bed. Let sleeping grandsons lie! The afternoon will be spent tidying up and having a nap. Dinner will be haggis, neeps and tatties. Have a good day all

Good morning from s somerset, weather is continuing to be atrocious and will be all week. Floods are starting all around

I want to re-link the water downpipe to the water butts, sometimes this is all the water we get for summer. I unlinked and half emptied in case of a prolonged freeze but I don`t think that will happen now. So wet weather clothes on, overtrousers and boots, screwdriver in pocket and hot water in a flask to make the connecting pipe easier to handle I will be up to the allotment by 8

I am intending to clean the insides of all my windows this week, plus the shutters. Seems as though I can pick any day until friday, they will all be dull wet days

Yesterday I did a bit of mending and spent quite a lot of time placing and sewing buttons onto my skirt, which is now hanging up. I also gave the machines a clean and cleaned my sewing room and then shut the door

Today is going to have to float along, I need to do something constructive during the evening, last night my bed called me by a ridiculous 8.30

I must say that I have been good at not spending online, just two spends in a week and they were not for endorphins nor through boredom. Two really nice denim fabrics, sale, 2m each, one 11gsm and the other is patterned and 8gsm. Only £7 each and includes postage. The other was temu as I wanted some cheap shoe horns.

Good morning from Malta where it seems we are going to have a bit of a mixture of showers, fine intervals and a strong wind. High of 12°C.

Had a nice day yesterday as a friend texted to ask if I fancied meeting up so I ditched my plans to clean the house and off I went! Had a lovely catch up over a delicious hot chocolate, I then went with my friend to the pharmacy as she needed something for a UTI. They suggested she see the doctor first so we waited a bit and she was seen and prescribed the necessary meds.

It was 3.30 by the time I got home so, as I was babysitting, I lay on the bed for a rest and promptly dozed off.

Not long after I had a FaceTime call from DD2 and DGD who were excited to have snow! After many years living in Florida they are enjoying the more varied weather in Tennessee, especially as there will be no school on Monday and Tuesday due to the snow.

There was no mention made of them not coming over in summer which I was glad about as I don’t want to fall out with anyone over it. In any case, DD2 has secured a full time job starting in April so wouldn’t have been able to come anyway.

I babysat the boys last night and they were a joy, both very chatty and in happy moods. Went off to bed with no trouble and straight off to sleep. They still look like babies when they are sleeping.

Got home at 1.30 and decided I may as well watch the Women’s match from Australia before the men began at 3.30. Needless to say, I nodded off and woke at 5 by which time the men were almost at the end of the first set! Never mind, it was a good match and I saw the rest of it.

I’m watching another match at the moment but will need to make myself presentable later as I hope to go to Mass.

I shall then come home and do the cleaning that I dodged yesterday! The kitchen and bathroom both need a good scrub so I hope my CBA doesn’t set in before it’s done!

Good morning all. Seven degrees in Kent; a cloudy day forecast.

Yesterday the sun was shining late afternoon so I went for a walk. The squirrels were happily travelling through their patch of shrubs and trees. It's so good when housing developers leave areas for nature to have a home too.

Mick I didn't know that about the Blackthorn. I expect the pretty blossom is a welcome early source of food for bees.

Today I am being treated to lunch by DD and her partner.

Good morning from Bristol.

Ash, you were fortunate with the weather, it was vile here; stormy, cold and nasty. That was most likely the reason we were very few for the coffee and chat. The church was cold too as we only had the radiant heater thing on the wall.

The vicar helped me out with the onions…. I came home after all that, had lunch, did a few bits and pieces and went back to start cooking. Every pan had been used for the potatoes and swedes, I had to transfer some into a less full pan….

In the end, I started off with two pans, intending to amalgamate them when mostly cooked down. Exactly what happened. It took me a couple of hours to get what I wanted. The vicar test controlled the flavour; it passed, so I went home.

If serving was fairly early, I would have come back, but the food was to be served at 8.30. No way. So I bade them all a lovely evening and came home.

Today will be the usual quiet day; church then potter.

Good morning from a dark and chilly Sarthe.

Yesterday was almost Spring like with blue skies and sunshine. I had to drive us to Lidl in my car as DH discovered a flat tyre on his. 🙄 Again, by using my UK Lidl App, I was able to secure us some reductions totalling 10€!
