Wetherspoons as a eat out and social do`s

I agree about the food BlueBelle only a problem if you eat there all the time. I think the disadvantages are far outweighed by prices and a safe comfortable place for people of all ages to meet up. A basic meal, warmth and company mean such a lot nowadays.

Yes there's always someone who thinks rules are for other people.

Why do some people always think the rules aren’t meant for them

Wetherspoons took on a lovely old building in our local little city many years ago. During the day it’s used by people of all ages for coffee, lunch or early dinner, in the later evening it’s popular as a pub and can get noisy. It’s always nice and warm inside and is near the bus stops, so a quiet ( no music) place to wait with a cuppa. The meals are not high dining, but are cheap and cheerful.

Spoons often take over interesting buildings - the one in Harrogate is in the Old Winter Gardens. When we were there the couple at the next table hid their dog under the table.

Wetherspoons not only transformed our lovely old building but have lots of framed historical photos up the staircase which is a lovely touch seeing it through the ages
The food is really as acceptable as anywhere Averline unless you re talking high end ‘posh’ restaurants. It’s certainly comparable with other chains and pubs.
I think you would only need to worry about the contents if you were eating there on a daily or regular basis I m sure a meal without high end ingredients is fine every now and then.

Well DH is 80 in a few weeks so he's survived many Spoons meals!

Chocolatelovinggran is that the one on the sands almost is SE Kent. I am so pleased that building was restored.

No concerns re hygiene and cooking but cheap bacon and sausages are notoriously bad for health. I like a good breakfast but am happy to pay more for really good quality bacon, sausages and eggs. ie without cheap fillers, preservatives and additional chemicals.

Well Aveline he survived it, as he has many times before. Wetherspoons is always in the top three in the hygiene ratings. I'm not sure what 'quality' means. He said it was delicious and well cooked.

We had the same experience in our town Aveline. I was very sorry to see it go. For us a journey into town is fairly long by bus and it was a reasonably priced place to stop for lunch when there was no celebration involved.
I believe one In Bournemouth is called The Moon in the Square.

I agree with how good this chain has been in restoring buildings which no one else would consider.
I live near the largest Wetherspoons in the country. It's a magnificent building, in a terrible condition when the chain arrived. It cost millions to restore, and only an organisation with very deep pockets could have taken it on.
Undoubtedly, without their intervention, this beautiful piece of local history would have been condemned, and raised to the ground.

I'd wonder about the quality of the contents of such a meal.

We love Wetherspoons and are regular customers. Last week my husband had an all day brunch - two sausages, two rashers of bacon, two fried eggs, chips, beans and a pint of beer for £7.49. Marvellous. Our local Spoons is lovely.

A large local closed down. It had become a popular spot for older people and local unemployed people buying one cup of bottomless coffee and staying all day. It was looked on as a community centre. It wasn't of course. It's a business so became financially unviable. Closed down. Staff lost jobs.

Tanith " Moons " seems to be a popular title for a Spoons pub, have been in a few with Moons in the pub title ,the one i use in Bicester ,was a former Post Office,and has 2 fireplaces near the main entrance making it a cosy place .

Swear I wrote 'spoons' and it changed to moons 😂

We like 'moons' for a quick catchup with friends or family its a nice pub atmosphere with ok food, big menu and no hurry up to leave when you've eaten, just get a coffee or drink and carry on chatting.

I don’t mind Wetherspoons apart from the fairly awful owner, but they do some wonderful old buildings up very tastefully
I hadn’t been in one for ages, but met a friend who I hadn’t seen for a good while and she wanted a meal in Weatherspoons so I was happy to go along.
Had a nice vegi curry it was very busy on two floors, lots of older people and young ( judgemental here, but probably not workers)
Next table to us was four young people and a small baby I looked across and smiled and said ‘ oh, that’s a little one ‘Yes, 6 days old’ said the proud Dad, I cannot imagine me 6 days after giving birth, sitting with my tiny, tiny baby in my arms eating a Wetherspoons lunch !!!
