They sell it with tomatoes here . A savoury fruit? I use them instead of butter when they are in season, no cholesterol.

Lidl, not Lild! oops

But if you have a Lild coupon for a free veg item, avocado, tomato and cucumber counts as veg.

Fruit.

As are cucumbers, peppers, courgettes, aubergines etc.

Wow - cucumbers as fruit? There's another revelation for moi.

How about rhubarb whilst on the subject. We eat it as a fruit but it’s a vegetable - a stem to be precise.

It develops from a flower and has a seed so yes it meets the biological definition of being a fruit.

Also, “knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit; wisdom is omitting it from a fruit salad” 🤣😆

Technically, it is a fruit. It can be eaten either sweet or savoury - what that makes it in culinary terms, I leave you to find out.

Btw, I was about 15 when I first ate it as a savoury. previously, we’d fill the hole left by the stone with sugar, squeeze half a lime into that, and spoon it all out!

The way I was taught about fruits and vegetables is that vegetables are roots leaves and stems. Fruits contain a seed either inside or on the outside like strawberries.

Yes.

Don’t know, don’t care……don’t like them!

Fruit from me too

A fruit is the flowering/seed producing product of a plant - hence a tomato is a fruit.

An avocado is also the reproductive element of the plant, so it also a fruit.

Botanically, it’s a fruit — specifically a berry (because it develops from a flower and contains a seed).

Norah Mon 26-Jan-26 14:17:56

Fruit.

I thought a tomato was a veggie until I was enlightened.
