Good morning from wet and windy South Lanarkshire.

Yesterday I didn’t get out of the house at all, I really should force myself but it was so cold and I was cosy. I crocheted for a couple of hours whilst listening to an audiobook then DH had a call from his brother to ask if they could visit so the afternoon was spent chatting with him and his wife.

Charity shop today and yarn group this evening.

Thinking of our absent grans.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning Mick and all

The rain is heavy and relentless here in the S E, mirroring how I feel.

I shall be at home until school pick up and The Imp’s swimming lessons.

He has requested dippy eggs and toast for breakfast so I best get going 🙋‍♀️

Good morning everyone from a wet south coast. Think there is more rain for most of today in the forecast.

I managed to get the dent out of the table lamp shade but it was a two-handed job. The steam iron is lethal when brandished so needed careful handling and DH held the shade for me. Pleased with it though as it has been bugging me for ages.

Karma I am always in awe of your energy and accomplishments every day. I would never ever have done so much "bottoming" even in my prime! I think I am more like FGT and her "lazygran" soubriquet! These days though, even if the spirit was willing, the physical condition would not allow.

I had a lovely surprise phone call from my older sister in the Isle of Man yesterday. She is now feeling more normal and glad to be back in her flat. We had a long chat and I had to chuckle at her very funny anecdotes about her time in hospital and since. She has not lost her feisty spirit and is determined to keep her independence as long as she possibly can.

Kindest thoughts to all struggling and fingers crossed for a safe crossing today for Ash and Old DD.

Good morning from Sheffield

It sounds wind and windy outside

I had a great time at the Big Night of Musicals last night. It was very well organised. It will be on tv on 22 March. I wonder if I will see myself or family on the screen.
The acts were amazing, Sam Ryder is playing Jeses in Jesus Christ Superstar. His voice is amazing, such a talent.

We went to a noodle bar for tea, but as I am coeliac the choice was very limited. I can’t say I enjoyed it but I said I had to my family, I’ll need a big breakfast this morning, I’m starving.

Just meeting a friend for coffee this morning and then a volunteer session at 5.

Take care everyone flowers

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a very dark but as far as I can tell dry morning in North Yorkshire. I didnt think anyone would have been on so early or I could have joined in. I woke, yelling, with awful cramp in both thighs at about 4,30am. Hope I didnt wake my upstairs neighbour. It was grim for some time, and I then started coughing, which I couldnt stop until the tears were running down my face and my sides ached! Not at all the chosen way to start a day.

Well after all that there was no way I was going back to sleep, wide awake, and moving quite gingerly so as not to start the wretched cramp off again. So now am a bit ahead of myself, up washed , dressed, washing up done, rubbish out, breakfast eaten and cleared away. So I have decided that once I have checked the weather and any local flooding, that I may venture down to the designer outlet in York. I rarely go to shopping centres, not my usual haunts, but with the floods, bad weather, and I do need a couple of things, it might be the best use of the day, with hopefully better weather to enjoy tomorrow.

Yesterday I went to my phone course. It was the last of the short course, and due to being ill I missed the last weeks lesson, but Nichola had kept all the crib sheets and a very good page of possible internet things that might interest us , that were safe. This ranged from physio exercises, to a calming one, to connections to games etc. I was pleased to have that to use in the future. I felt it had been very worthwhile to most of us, and as it was the first of this designed course Nichola has also been able to use us as guinea pigs and can adjust following courses.

I had suggested to her that she might find it easier, both for the students and herself if she separated us out into iphone and samsung groups, because it was quite difficult at times with the mix, where sometimes students would be worried they could not find something, only because it was not on their phones. She has taken up this idea and is going to sort of run them in parallel in the beginning so that people gain confidence in their ability to use the controls etc. I was very pleased that I had gone on the course, but know that I have lots to learn still, and need to practise.

Then I went on from there to do a small amount of shopping, went for coffee at Cafe Nero and met a friend I had not expected to see. She said that sadly she and several other people had lost their jobs as I think the firm was going into liquidation. So rather upsetting, but she said that she wasnt feeling too good, - no doubt all the pressure of the last few weeks hasnt helped - so she is looking for work and checking at the job centre. I said I would watch out for anything I saw. In the past I happened to be passing somewhere as they put up an advert and passed it on to her and she got the job, so fingers crossed I can see something for her again.

Then it was home and general sorting out , and much of the evening watching tv, as I enjoy the quizzing things like Only Connect and University challenge, but there was also a very good film about Nicholas Winter and how he brought the children out of czechoslovakia by train. I have known about it and some years ago watched a film of it but it was very moving, and I think many officials should be made to watch it. It showed so much that whilst we do need rules for things, there are times when officials need to get their fingers out and MOVE , to ensure that tragedies are avoided and that they remember that what they do or dont do, can affect people for all of their lives.

Hope you have a good trip and also see some great cycling Mick. GrandMattie sounds as though your cinema group could do with a sort of , was it called Paul Jones?< at a dance , where you changed partners half way through, or in that case moved tables, but that would probably be difficult to do I suppose. Bellasnana your post made me think of how long ago it was that I got to the top of my cupboards, and I have made a note to remind me to ask my cleaners to get the steps out and give them a go this week. Sounds as though you really had a grand clean up. (Dont you find that when everywhere is looking lovely no one calls, yet when you have just got the entire contents of a cupboard out the sort it, the world and his wife calls!) RoseandLilac do hope your feet improve as the day goes on.Susan56 glad you had a good day yesterday and hope you can be a calming influence on your friend. It is always good to have someone to speak to when you are feeling rather scared or upset.

Oh dear I now have the rain lashing at the window, never mind I am warm and dry in here, but am already less sure about going to York. I need to look at the road situation if there are floods on the way I intend to go, and whether I can keep up the enthusiasm for going or retreat to doing the ironing in the warm.

Hope everyone keeps dry and well today and have a good day

Good morning from a wet corner of La Sarthe, not ideal for our journey to Ouistreham for the 16.30 ferry. Let’s hope the storm has passed through by then.

Thank you for all the kind wishes yesterday and this morning. It’s kind of folk to be thinking of us, not least because this is a journey we undertake quite regularly. Tonight we shall stay overnight at Portsmouth Travelodge and complete our journey to Torquay tomorrow morning.

I hope any discomforts ease, especially RosesandLilac, Grandmabatty (how is your foot?) and Bellasnana who did so much work yesterday!
How is Jaxjacky?

Have a good day and stay warm and dry! 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩

Very wet and windy in Co Durham, of course it is! Hair dresser appointment at nine this morning.
Missing Md, Fgt and Georgesgran. Hope Md’s ddil improves quickly.

Good morning from very wet s somerset, floods are gathering all around and we have more rain all day but perhaps a brighter sky

I stayed in yesterday, got busy bottoming the living room and moved some things just so I could put my nice special knitting bags together, on a shelf. Dusted tops and bottoms, even the high picture tops, cleaned the pale wooden shutters and surrounds

The hall has been changed too, lots of exercise yesterday, just by this `early` spring cleaning. Very heavy small oak bookcase is now on my landing, complete with books and a heavy mirrored plant stand has been swapped to the hall. The hall looks much better. I got hot and puffed so decided I did not need to be on a walk. Got to admit it was a very satisfying morning

Today I will be bottoming the kitchen/dining and finishing the bottoming of my bedroom and cleaning the shutters in both. It is rather nice to be doing this positive stuff on such horribly dull wet days,. Working to music, I still have my old ipod, full of music and I am so glad that I transferred so much music from my cds in the old days. It stands on an old bose dock and together they produce wonderfully uplifting sound, perfect for days like these and work that involves a lot of movement

My new coat arrived and is absolutely perfect and a good 12" longer than my other coat of the same brand. So perfect that the new one is hanging in my hall and not in a wardrobe. It will keep me bone dry for sure. I may well go out later, to test it and will have to wear my old trainers because of the grotty dirt on the road and pavements. I will be chucking them out after this winter

Have a good day

Good morning from a haven't a clue what the weather is Northampton - however I do know that the forecast is for heavy rain. I just haven't looked out the window yet as I am still in bed.

Goodness, Bellasnana what a busy day you had yesterday - I expect the top of my kitchen cupboards are in a similar greasy state, but they will have to stay that way - I am not risking life and limb by clambering up the step ladder! What the eye can't see....

When I got back from yoga yesterday I cleaned the bathrooms, stripped the bed, then got the fresh bedding on. Washed and dried the bedding, and that was enough for one day. The afternoon was spent still catching up with the weekend newspapers.

DS-in-law's birthday gift voucher was delivered yesterday evening, hope he likes it.

Am expecting DS to come and change my smoke alarm batteries this morning (if he remembers). I may get a load of washing done.
This afternoon I will have a wet journey into town to the opticians, which I suspect will be expensive, as it is two years since I last had new glasses.

Wishing all a pleasant, if wet, day.

Grandmabatty Tue 27-Jan-26 06:26:33

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 4°and dry. Roses you have my sympathy! I hope you get some relief. Bellasnana that sounds like a spring clean. Very industrious.
Yesterday I had a nap in the morning after school drop off and felt better for it. In the afternoon I worked in the school library then went to dgs1s class for a learning session about emotions and senses. Then picked up dgs2 and home. A slight change to the routine was I fed dgs2 dinner. He asked for nuggets and ate 10! Dd was astounded when she came for him. I had a very early night and have slept well.
Today will be quiet after the school drop off. I'll pick up the boys, feed them breakfast then deposit them at school before returning home and pottering about until pick up time. The kitchen always needs tidying, especially after the two hurricanes have been in. Have a good day all.

Good morning from Shropshire.Heavy rain at the moment.

A lovely day yesterday.DH and I made a last minute decision to go out for lunch which was very good.He then managed to find a new pair of trainers and finally to the garden centre for coffee.

Today I have a phone appointment with my specialist nurse then my friend is coming round later. She was referred for a knee replacement three years ago and after physio and many consultations had a call yesterday to say she is to have the operation tomorrow. She is a bit panicky so coming here for company and for me to hopefully calm her down.

My thoughts are with Marydoll and her family and thinking especially of her little granddaughter worrying about her mummy.x

Thinking also of all our mountaineers.Hoping Ash and olddudders have a safe journey 🙏🏻

Wishing everyone the best day possible🌻🦩

Good morning from a rainy Kent.

I woke up with a sore throat so it's going to be a day of doing nothing for me.

grandMattie it can be very frustrating going places where there are cliques can't it. Whenever I encounter cliques I tend to think that I wouldn't get along with those sort of people anyway so the fact that they don't include me is actually a positive. That thought lightens my frustration.

Wishing everyone good health today.

RosesandLilac Tue 27-Jan-26 06:11:25

Good morning everyone, it’s pouring with rain and blustery too here on the hillside in south Glos. Just how much more rain are we going to have?!
Yesterday I tidied around and got the ironing done. My feet and ankles are so painful I am struggling to do much, I ended up laying on the bed with my legs elevated in the forlorn hope that would help 😬
Anyway, more housework etc today, I will walk tiddler first thing and then get on with it.
Still not started my new painting, maybe later my oomph will reappear?
Best wishes to all 🌹

grandMattie Tue 27-Jan-26 06:10:11

Send us a photo of your nails when done please, *bellasg. They’re always so beautiful 🤩

Bellasnana Tue 27-Jan-26 05:59:36

Good morning from Malta where we have had a yellow wind warning in place since yesterday. The high is forecast at 16°C.

I overdid it yesterday with my cleaning. Realised I wasn’t able to climb up on the counters to clean the tops of the cupboards which were really greasy and grimy, so had to lug the stepladder in. It was a tedious job but I’m glad it’s done even if nobody can see it!

Also cleaned the windows in the living room, vacuumed and steam mopped the floors and did two loads of laundry.

My back was not at all happy after all that and I retreated to my bed at 2pm and didn’t wake up until 6pm! What a strange day.

I’m up watching the tennis from Australia but I’m going to miss seeing Alcaraz’s match later as I’ve got my nails. DGD has sent me a design for them, bless her.

They have had an ice storm in Tennessee which looks quite beautiful but scary. So many trees falling under the weight of the ice and thousands without power. DD2 said they still have power so they are lucky.

Thinking of you all and hoping the day goes well for you.🤗

grandMattie Tue 27-Jan-26 05:33:37

Good morning from a wet Bristol. It appears we have yet another named storm. I think I preferred the day when we had terrible weather, without knowing it’s name.
Usual pedestrian day yesterday. I did go to the OAP film in the church hall. It costs almost nothing and you get tea and cake afterwards. One is supposed to mix, but it really annoys me when most punters only sit with their friends, with no regard to the widowed, single and/or lonely. If one is allowed to sit at “their” table, one is pointedly ignored.
The film shown was called “Rory’s Way”, about a Hebridean. There was a lot of Gaelic, which Brian Cox spoke. I didn’t know he could, and if he couldn’t it sounded very realistic.
Today is a great big empty. Sewing, sorting out of papers perhaps. Who knows?
May all our mountaineers have a good day. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good morning all from a very wet and windy Stockport.
Micheal , you get earlier every day.
I was so tired last night I feel asleep on the sofa at 7:30 but was aware enough to rouse myself and come up to bed and must have gone back almost straight away, hence I am now awake.

My econsult to the surgery yesterday resulted in a call back late afternoon with an appointment for ….next Tuesday.
I am obviously very low priority but at least it is with a Dr and not a Practice nurse which is usually the case.
I shall probably be feeling better or the opposite by then, we shall see.

I hope the current storm , which is forecast to bring snow but not very likely, will not trouble us all greatly and I wish you the best day possible.

Good Morning Everyone,
I have woken to a dark and wet morning here in Brackley .
Up to my usual routine with a bus to Bicester , I may make it a double trip by going after lunch .
I aim to watch some cycling on TV as well.
Health OK,
Take Care,
Mick
