Usedtobeblonde, I am so sorry that you are not well enough to attend the wedding. I'm sure yourGD will keep you involved with photos and videos. I hope your cardiology appointment comes through soon and you get some answers to your health concerns. flowers

Usedtobeblonde Sat 21-Feb-26 08:47:56

Good morning all from an overcast but much milder Stockport.
I hope you had a lovely day gillgran.
I am feeling sad and emotional today.
I should be attending the wedding of my GD’s friend, my GD is a bridesmaid and I was so happy for her but sadly I am not well enough.
I haven’t been to a wedding for years and am not anticipating any more.
However it is as it is and I have requested photographs throughout the day.

I also had a GP appointment yesterday following the ECG I had last week and am being referred to Cardiology which has quite surprised me.
I consider myself to be blessed with good health,I have been so lucky throughout life but suddenly things are not so straightforward, at 88 I should have expected it.
So many in the kitchen are facing sad and difficult times and I am feeling much empathy with them.
I am getting teary now so I shall give myself that metaphorical kick up the b…….e and get on with my day.

My GD has just left for the wedding venue to join the “ladies” of the wedding party for the jollifications and the visit of the hairdressers, the makeup team etc, a far cry from my own wedding of 68 yeas ago, such simple affairs then, but on looking back, the excitement and anticipation was just as valid and full of joy as it is today.

Happy Birthday gillgran.

I hope you have had a Happy Birthday gillgran 💝
We are lucky enough to have 2 Hobbycraft’s in our county Redcar, one is on a retail park and one is inside a Garden Centre . I fear we may lose at least one.

Happy birthday gillgran 🎂🎁🎈

Hello to the rest of the kitchen.

OH and I met our friends for lunch. OH is quite distressed that his work buddy from years ago isn’t well. In fact he’s physically in a terrible state. He still retains all his faculties though. He will be 87 next week and we have a feeling it may be his final birthday.

I collected another batch of antibiotics for my toe. I’m soaking it in hot salty water twice a day. At least I can drive comfortably!

OH is out at his beekeeping group discussing ways to deal with Asian Hornets which kill and eat British bees.

Sleep tight everyone.

FGT2S & the scoops. 🌸

Many happy returns Gillgran. Have a super time with your family.

I am thinking of the soops and fgts too and hope they are as comfortable as can be.

Topsy, I do hope your op happens.

Grannmarue i don't envy you tgat drive. Glad you made it safely.

jaxjacky i feel your hair woes. I am desperate for my highlights to be done. I currently look as though i have had a shampoo and set- just like my mum.

Have a lovely birthday weekend Gillgran, with the family around you.

brook2704 Fri 20-Feb-26 20:19:28

A very Happy Birthday Gillgran, have a lovely weekend celebrating with your family! 🎁🥂💐🎂

Grannmarie Fri 20-Feb-26 20:09:12

Good evening lovely Kitchen people. 🥰

Just catching up with all your news after a busy spell.

Many happy returns, Gillgran, enjoy your family celebrations for your special birthday. 🎂💐

Shame about your fish supper, Grandmabatty, hope your early night helps.

Hope your dreams come true very soon, Jaxjacky, you're being a very patient patient. 🤞

What a bargain, Nannytopsy, smart curtains! Well done on your alterations. Fingers crossed 🤞 for your operation.

Hello 👋 Tilly, good to see you, thank you for your kind wishes.

Redcar, you are doing well with your walking and housework, well done.

Brook, I haven't put any washing outside yet, so much rain. I miss the fresh air smell.
Enjoy your cosy evening and your wine. I will join you in a wee glass soon!

I had a tricky drive out to see the Wee Boy this afternoon, heavy rain on the motorway, so much surface water and spray not to mention the roadworks and contraflow. I was glad to arrive! Good to spend time with him and catch up with the parents too. DIL thought the Wee Boy would give football training a miss this evening cos of the rain but he was determined to go, they are out in all weathers, very hardy. So I am home now, relaxing on the sofa watching Slow Horses. I do enjoy a spy drama.

Thinking of all our absent friends, especially our Soops and FGTs, hoping and praying that they are cosy and comfortable, and receiving the very best of care. Thinking too of all who are caring for poorly loved ones.💕🙏

Wishing everyone a peaceful Friday evening and a good night's sleep.
TOYA, NNGB.

Happy Birthday gillgran I hope you are having a lovely time with family.

Not quite as cold here today, but showery this afternoon. My patio is also green and slippery nannytopsy, i daren’t walk on it until it dries properly.

I had a walk this morning but have done little since, my back didn’t like me vacuuming yesterday and has been quite achy today. A good excuse to sit and watch the Winter Olympics! I’ll miss them next week.

jaxjacky you will certainly get mobile again eventually. I know you’d like to be able to get out and about, but the weather isn’t very encouraging!

Thinking of those who aren’t able to post at the moment, and those in the quiet corner.

Enjoy the rest of your evening everyone.

Good evening kitchen folk. Today has passed very quickly. I did an hour in the school library this morning then a quick trip to Tesco where apple and cinnamon hot cross buns leaped off shelf into my basket. Then home to do a little tidying before picking up ds at the duration and we headed to dds. The boys were being good although dgs2 got a bit overwhelmed with visitors. Ds brought his hand made chocolate which he made in York. It was a bit too salty for me. Then I dropped him back at the station and headed home. The plan was for a fish supper but there was no parking anywhere so I went home and had oven chips instead. I'm going to have an early night as my sinuses are bothering me as is my eye. Enjoy your evening kitchen folk

Happy birthday Gillgran. I hope you are having a lovely day xxx

gillgran Fri 20-Feb-26 17:50:33

I can hardly believe that it's my 80th birthday today.
Our DD is here until Sunday with her 2 DD's.
DS, then DiL & their youngest DD (our "special" one), have called in. So quite a full & busy house!!
Our eldest DGD & DGS are home this weekend, so we are all out for a family get together, Sunday lunch.

Warm thoughts for you all. x

Jaxjacky Fri 20-Feb-26 17:39:49

Thanks brook bored daft, but my fingers are agile shopping, in my dreams I am mobile, I’ll get there eventually.
Started off sunny here, then drizzle, then showers, slightly warmer when I stuck my head out of the patio door.
Soak away here too Nannytopsy very inefficient as well; pretty curtains, well done.
I’m having a weak shandy, how daring 🤣.

Nannytopsy Fri 20-Feb-26 16:54:21

Your first sentence is appropriate here too Brook ! I started sweeping outside ready to pressure wash but the wind was bitter and it started to rain. No surprise there! For the first time, our patio has gone green and is very slippery so I want to clean it before the operation, assuming it goes ahead. We have soak aways rather than proper outside drains here, and from experience, it’s best to do a section at a time as it takes a while to drain away. Tomorrow maybe? Of course the sun has come out now that the end of the day is approaching.
I have been lengthening some bargain curtains which were a bit short. For £35 instead of £180 at Dunelm, I am happy to do a couple of hours work! One if finished …

brook2704 Fri 20-Feb-26 16:43:22

Hi kitchen pals, it should have been slightly warmer up here today but there’s been a very strong cold wind that’s made it feel very cold. After my volunteering session this morning I had a short walk to meet up with DH, we were going to go for coffee somewhere but I felt so cold I just wanted to come home and get cosy. I did hang out the bedding earlier, double pegged and it got a very good blow in the wind so it smells fresh now even though its still not properly dry
We’ve a Hobbycraft up here too, I hope it stays open as there’s always something interesting you can get there
I hope you’re doing ok Jax good job you’ve got Mr Jax there to help. I hope you’re not too bored staying in and hope you can get a bit more mobile soon ❤️
Shame about the car corner but easily done and soon mended
As it’s Friday I’m going to enjoy a glass of wine with dinner and settle on the sofa
Thinking of all our friends in the quiet corner, take care all x

Redcar Thu 19-Feb-26 21:18:19

tilly according to their website, Hobbycraft are closing some stores but not all of them. I hope some will stay open, such lovely stores and so useful for presents for children.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 19-Feb-26 20:36:33

Been a bitsa day bits of this and bits of that.

Thinking of our quiet corner friends 🙋‍♀️

Grandmabatty Thu 19-Feb-26 20:29:46

Tilly I hadn't heard that about Hobbycraft! I hope not but it wouldn't surprise me

TillyTrotter Thu 19-Feb-26 20:15:21

Good to hear you are feeling more perky today Grandmabatty.
I’ve heard Hobbycraft is to lose it’s (lovely) shops and be an online store in England soon.
Are they under threat in Scotland too? Such a shame if they are.

Redcar Thu 19-Feb-26 20:14:13

Good evening Kitcheners. Another cold day today although not as windy as yesterday. I walked to the post office to post yet more birthday cards, just one more February birthday to come, the eldest granddaughter will be 11 soon.
Dusted and vacuumed the stairs, landing and my bedroom, including dusting round the walls to clear the cobwebs!
DD2 called in for a short visit at lunchtime, on her way home after work.
nannytopsy I hope that the shortage of cement doesn’t delay your operation next week.

I used to have a mini trampoline for indoor use, which I enjoyed using but unfortunately it made my arthritic hips hurt more so I had to stop using it. I wouldn’t dare now in case I damage my back.

Well done for trimming your fringe jaxjacky. On the rare occasions I’ve tried to trim mine I’ve ended up with it lopsided.

Thinking of those in the quiet corner and those not posting for any reason. I hope life will be kinder to you soon.

Grandmabatty Thu 19-Feb-26 18:28:07

Good evening kitchen folk. Today has been a good day. I went to the retail park to get computer games for dgs1 for his birthday on Sunday. Then I visited hobbycraft to stock up on paper. I arrived home and realised I had a game for ps5 not a ps4, so off I went, back to the retail park to exchange. This afternoon I've pottered about and then made beef stroganoff for dinner. I'm watching a lovely film called The Swedish Connection which is lighthearted about a serious aspect of World War Two. An early night ahead I think. Enjoy your evening kitchen folk
