Hope nobody minds me opening a new kitchen.

Good evening kitchen folk. The weather today has been wet and windy, however it hasn't affected me as I've been in bed. I have felt unwell with a dodgy tummy so have mostly stayed under the covers. I might make macaroni cheese later but at the moment a cuppa and a ginger biscuit have been enough. I hope everyone is well.

Redcar Thu 05-Feb-26 07:32:15

Thank you nannytopsy I had a lovely sleep last night! Your walk round the churchyard sounds very relaxing. I hope you and your OH have enjoyable lunches today.

Nannytopsy Wed 04-Feb-26 23:45:59

Hope you are asleep by now Redcar. We have had beautiful sunshine this afternoon so I took my binoculars for a walk around the churchyard and the village. The snowdrops are beautiful in the churchyard and have spread massively. I think we could sell some in the green for the church roof. Done it once before, when I was raising funds to fit an electric winder to the church clock. There were robins, blue and great tits and skylarks making plenty of noise. The rest of the day was spent filing , shredding and throwing away stuff from the study. Very satisfying!
We are both out to different lunches tomorrow so cooking shouldn’t be required.
I hope the poorly folk are feeling comfortable and that you all sleep well. Time for bed here, so night night x

GrandmaC47 Wed 04-Feb-26 23:08:05

So quiet tonight. Hope everybody is as ok as possible.
I had hoped February would bring a bit of cheer, but it’s feeling just as dreary as January.
Sleep well šŸ‘‹

GrannyGravy13 Wed 04-Feb-26 21:31:11

It is quite here.

I am having an early night, feel a headache coming on, hopefully it will be gone by the morning.

Hi kitchen pals,
Another very cold day here, I just couldn’t get warm. I did a couple of classes at the gym then walked into town by the river. Hood up, gloves and boots on but with a biting wind it was hard going. Then this afternoon a thorough check up at the opticians which was ok, no real changes so that’s good. I do need to get some new reading glasses though as most of the ones I have are now scratched.
Hope you sleep well tonight redcar
Hoping everyone is doing ok, thinking of those in the quiet corner, take care all x

Redcar Wed 04-Feb-26 21:06:30

It’s very quiet in the kitchen today, I hope everyone is all right?

Thinking of all those gransnetters who are worried about loved ones who are ill, and hoping and praying for improvement in their conditions. Also those who are in the quiet corner.

I had a lousy nights sleep last night again so will be going to bed soon. Night night all.

Aww what a disappointment for the girls uttb frustrating when things don’t go to plan and there’s time / money wasted
Enjoy the teenagers company grannmarie sounds like they’re keeping you busy
I’ve just come to bed, an early night soon I think. DH is watching something or other on the tv so hope he’s quiet when he comes through and doesn’t wake me up. He won’t put the light on if I’m asleep so he’ll he creeping around in the dark for ages
None of my AC have any pets Jax, there was a hamster in Cambridge but sadly no more. My mum always had a cat and it was a source of comfort and companionship for her. She did worry so much though when it went missing on one of it’s adventures- always came home eventually though!

Usedtobeblonde Tue 03-Feb-26 19:22:25

My GD and her friend have both taken two days off to go to Nottingham to see James Arthur, they are huge fans.
Meeting another friend there and staying overnight at her house.
Mid morning they received a text to say the show was cancelled due to illness.
They are very disappointed.
They will not be able to go to any rearranged show as both the other two have used up their annual leave for the current year so will be asking for refunds.
The two here have still gone over to their friend’s house to spend the evening and night.

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people.🄰Great to hear that our Soop is in good spirits, she is an inspiration. I'm so glad she's home with her beloved. Thanks again, Baggs, hope your back is recovering.

Your poor daughter, Kitty, I hope she has good pain relief until she can be seen. Thinking of you both.

YiaYia, I hope yourDH gets good news soon. Waiting is torture.

How is your toe now, Ladyleftfieldlover? I hope it's healing nicely now.

I think you've impressed your new GP, Usedtobeblonde! Hope you get reassuring results soon.

Sounds like you're getting your appetite back, Grandmabatty, enjoy your fajitas. Great news about your DGS1 being scouted, good luck to him!

Hope you're feeling more comfortable Jaxjacky. Mr J is a star!⭐

Redcar, you are a faithful friend to the poor lady with dementia. I'm sure her family appreciate your visits.

Glad to hear that you and yourDH enjoyed warm soup in the middle of your busy day, brook, you manage your time so effectively. Whole chunks of my day disappear in dozing and dithering, then I wonder where the time goes?

I've been a bit more disciplined today cos I'm staying with my teenage grandchildren whilst their parents are away for a sunshine break. So I was up at 6 to get DGS1 off to university andDGD out for her school bus at 8. Scrambled eggs for breakfast and raw egg whisked for Grandpup. She and I went a wee walk early afternoon, but didn't linger cos it was bitterly cold. I've done some washing and ironing, just chauffeured DGD to her drama class. Now the trick is to stay awake till it's time to collect her! Seriously, I've set an alarm on my phone.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Tuesday evening and a good night's sleep. Fingers crossed šŸ¤ž, Cornergran!
Thinking especially of our dear friends with illness, worries or sorrow, sending love and prayers for all who need/ wish them. ā™„ļøšŸ™šŸ•Æļø

kittylester Tue 03-Feb-26 18:22:55

Ooh, I'd go for fajitas too, Gbatty.

That reminds me of a friend of DD2 who is now a successful author. She coild never manage the proper word and called them 'frajitas' which we all thought sounded very rude. Guess what they are always called in this house.

We haven't heard too much from DD2 today. We hope that means she is sleeping.

Grandmabatty Tue 03-Feb-26 18:14:21

Redcar a very industrious day for you.
Today has bitterly cold. I've had a lazy day between dropping off the boys and picking them up again. The school playground was so cold and wet with a wind that would cut right through you that we were all glad to be indoors. The boys have been fairly good. A little aggro with dgs2 but it was dealt with. I'm debating fajitas or trout for dinner. I'm leaning in the direction of fajitas. The chilli will be warming on this cold night. Enjoy your evening all.

Jaxjacky Tue 03-Feb-26 17:49:02

B****r kitty I do hope a slot is available soon. Yia your husband has my sympathy, hopefully soon and positive.
A wet, cold and dark day bumbling around the house, I rang my 92 year old uncle for a chat and faffed with the online shopping list.
Long chat with my son about his plans to adopt a cat, he’d like the company.
MrJ has rustled up a chicken curry for dinner.

Redcar Tue 03-Feb-26 17:16:54

kitty I hope your poor DD doesn’t have to wait too long for her surgery and that her pain can be controlled while she waits.
yiayia I hope your DH gets his scan results soon and that they’re encouraging!
Bitterly cold here today and raining now. The forecast doesn’t look good for the foreseeable future unfortunately.
I did a stack of ironing this morning and cleaned the bathroom floor. It was very dusty where the electrician had cleaned the ceiling fan yesterday! I saw my dementia friend this afternoon, she was tucked up in bed and very quiet.

Have a peaceful evening everyone, keep warm and dry!

brook2704 Tue 03-Feb-26 16:20:44

Hoping things improve for your DD very soon kitty and she has the required surgery done as quickly as possible
I’m just home from a busy day out and about, aerobics at the gym this morning which was hard work and then volunteering this afternoon. In between DH and I caught up for some warming soup at a local cafe. It’s bitterly cold here today, on and off sleety rain and a very cold wind. Roll on spring that’s all I can say
Good that you’re getting checked out Uttb although promising that the doctors think you’re doing fine.
Yia hope your DH scan results come through quickly and put his mind at rest
Thinking of everyone in the quiet corner, take care all x

Usedtobeblonde Tue 03-Feb-26 14:15:39

When my D was taken into hospital with an infected gall bladder, she was also sent home and the wait was such that she had it done privately.
This really shouldn’t happen when the pain is so severe.
I have had a visit to the surgery myself this morning, a lovely young male Dr.
He has arranged an ECG and blood tests for Thyroid and electrolytes but generally he seemed to think I am ā€œok for my ageā€
Those words weren’t said, just implied.
I hope your D’s pain is under control kitty

Blossoming Tue 03-Feb-26 13:41:23

Thank you Baggs. Kittylester hope things improve soon flowers

cornergran Tue 03-Feb-26 13:35:55

Not so sure about livid kitty, I’d be levitating! I’m so sorry, your daughter must be behind tired of the pain. Hope there will be better news soon.

hulahoop Tue 03-Feb-26 09:36:44

Yia hope your oh gets scan results soon.
Kitty hope you and your Dd are improving.
Jaxjacky when I worked in orthopaedic ward I was constantly telling patients off for crossing ankles .
Baggs hope your back pain has settled .
(((hugs to all )).

Grandmabatty Tue 03-Feb-26 09:13:49

Your poor daughter, Kitty. Best wishes to her

kittylester Tue 03-Feb-26 09:07:37

Just a quick update on DD2, as you have all been so kind. She has been sent home with painkillers and will be put on a waiting list for surgery. Apparently there was a bed for her but no surgery slot available.

To say I am livid would be an understatement.

Thank you all for your support.

cornergran Tue 03-Feb-26 01:45:48

Thank you for the update baggs, good to hear soop has been chirpy, not so good to hear you’ve been in pain. Socks are dangerous things! No weight lifting for a few days.

Your poor daughter has been through the wringer kitty, she seems resilient though, like her mum. Hope you can both sleep well tonight.

Sounds as if a rest is needed grandmab, hope you’re fighting fit very soon.

Nothing much happening here. We may have a change of gas meter later today, ours hasn’t worked for a month or so, we’re promised a visit during the morning. I seriously hope our weather forecast for constant rain is wrong. Our meter is on the open side of our bungalow, the poor person would be soaked

I’m sadly wide awake when I should be sleeping. Oh well, no point fretting, I’ll settle down and find a book stashed in the depths of the iPad.

Sleep well everyone.

Redcar Mon 02-Feb-26 21:47:04

I hope your DD will soon be feeling better kitty

baggs thank you for the update on soop, good that she’s feeling chirpy, long may it continue.
I’m sorry that your back is being difficult, painkillers and exercise seem to be the standard answer from doctors, but don’t always make a lot of difference (from personal experience). I hope yours improves soon.

I had an early start to the day as the electrician arrived at 8.30 to replace the fuse box. So no electricity or heating until about 2 o’clock. Then I had to reset all the appliances that had had their power supply interrupted. I managed my nemesis ( the bathroom underfloor heating) quite easily. Then I had to put everything back into the cupboard where the fuse box is located. Fortunately the new box is about the same size as the old one, so no problem getting all the saucepans back in the cupboard. Not sure I need so many large pans as I rarely cook for large numbers of people these days.

As I didn’t get much sleep last night, I’m ready for my bed now!
Night night everyone, sleep well.

GrandmaC47 Mon 02-Feb-26 19:33:51

Good to hear Soop is chirpy. Hope those in pain or poorly family get relief soon.
February doesn’t seem to have got off to the best start for some of our kitcheners. Hugs to all
