I am on the NHS waiting list for a heart procedure and had been told it would not be until the autumn at least.
Because the problems are so life-limiting I made the decision to attack my savings and to go privately and had been given a date for 19th February. I was sitting at my computer filling in their medical history form and had just pressed send when the phone rang from the NHS hospital offering me 27th February!!
I feel a bit discombobulated!! I nearly fell off my chair!
Private hospital were happy to cancel with no problems - phew!
Similar thing happened to me. I booked a private consultation for a long awaited hip replacement. I was then offered an NHS date. The private hospital were fine about cancelling, I think there are probably rules about it.
I’m very pleased you’re able to get the operation done on the NHS and hope you make a speedy recovery. Once you’re well enough spend some of those savings on a lovely holiday. You deserve it!
Good luck with the procedure and with your recovery. My mother (mid 80's) had a heart valve replacement on the NHS which went smoothly and more recently a pacemaker fitted - she went in in the morning and came out in the afternoon!
That’s great news. The same happened to my MIL. After she had her initial £200 appointment with the consultant at the private hospital she got her NHS operation date through. He was the same consultant at the NHS hospital, and must have escalated her case after seeing her as a self funded patient.
Absolutely brilliant, all the best, keep well till then
NHS is really getting its act together. I have had four, yes four consultations in the last days, one I had been waiting over a year for and the others very quick referrals. I was talking to a nurse who told me they are open much longer hours now and are really getting the backlog down as they received a good boost of Government funding. Long may it continue.
