This ghastly person and his gang seem to be everywhere in the news.
It's utterly depressing.

Actually, I'm going against the popular opinion here but I reckon Mandelson was a smart appointment to the US. We need a shark to deal with the sharks in high places over there. I bet he found out lots of useful info that would not otherwise be available.

I thought so too.
Takes one to know one, I thought.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Maremia Thu 05-Feb-26 15:32:44

Well said Aveline.

Aveline Thu 05-Feb-26 13:13:35

Trump will fall one day. But when? Who will take over? Will they be worse? Maybe not as frankly nuts and childishly vindictive as he is but maybe not great either.
I must say that I feel so grateful for my comfortable life in a relatively safe country right now. I dread to think of how the poor brave Ukrainian people are managing. Also the poor Americans who will never be able to afford any medical care. So much suffering going on in the world. There probably always was but modern media and social media brings it straight to us

Smileless2012 Thu 05-Feb-26 12:47:25

Mandelson's appointment could be seen as sleaze fighting sleaze, rather than fire fighting fire.

Well a group of grans running the secret service couldn't have done a worse job could they GG grin.

I don’t think the Russians are doing other than sweating that their cover is being slowly blown. This is just the beginning in my opinion, When Trump falls, I wonder what happens next, it is a frightening time - I’m usually a glass half full, but not at the moment.

Aveline Thu 05-Feb-26 12:19:00

The Russians must be rejoicing at the Epstein revelations but where's Trump in this? That's a biggest issue.

Many of his MPs are against Starmer over the Mandelson issue. Those for him are blaming his advisors who they say have been the cause of many u turns by labour.

Starmer's days as PM could be numbered which is a gift for Reform.

I doubt that it will prove to be a gift for Reform, or any major UK party ultimately. I’ve developed a sense of doom about Russian involvement in British politics being a much bigger issue than we currently realise. I hope I’m wrong.

A labour party that would appoint mandelsson is not a party that holds the same values as me. My values haven't changed.

foxie48 Thu 05-Feb-26 11:31:23

I also thought it was an inspired choice, Aveline I disliked Mandelson but I thought the usual sort of diplomat would cut little ice in a Trump run government but a slimey creature like Mandelson could be just the right person. I, of course, had little information about his involvement with Epstein. What Starmer actually knew about Mandelson's relationship with Epstein and how much those around Starmer knew, will no doubt come out in the wash.

It was Peter Mandelson who told the FT reporter to F off, not Starmer.

OK thank you, I obviously misheard 👍

The Daily Mail, unsurprisingly, has trawled through many email exchanges between Mandelson and Epstein. Flirtatious and many references to sex which confirm Mandelson’s lied when he claimed being gay meant he knew nothing of Epstein’s sexual obsession or behaviour.

Yes, I know we aren’t surprised but what an absolute lying sleazeball Mandelson is. I’m still convinced this will end Starmer as leader. Can it destroy the government? Every past Labour grandee was in hock with Mandelson

I would expect any paper, or other media, worth its salt to be going through these papers with a toothcomb. Mandelson's betrayal of his country while a member of the cabinet, is almost unprecdented. The speed with which financial market leaders knew government plans is shocking in the extreme.

It is absolutely essential that we sieve this cesspit for every gramme of ordour appertaining to Mandelson, and AMW as both are proved to have lied, and lied and lied and we need to know just how much harm both have done their country and in AMW's case his family.

I think that PMQ’s yesterday has damaged the PM’s reputation and lost him the support of his MP’s

I watched an interview this morning with the reporter from the FT who told the PM ack in 2024 about Mandelson’s relationship with Epstein and was told to fuck off by KS.

Several posters posted their objections on here when Mandelson was made ambassador due to his past involvement with dodgy dealing and Epstein.

If a group of grans had suspicions perhaps we should be running the secret service…

Russia has come out as culprit for sure.

Then there's Netanyahu et al - remember a former official there was mentioned in Virginia Guiffre's book - and he was vicious. I've read that book - and it's quite a shocking read. Not to mention the point came up there that she told the ghost writer specifically/generally said "If they say I have committed suicide ever that will not be the case - I will not be committing suicide". Plus I find the thought of a. a parent b. a battered wife (as she was latterly) not making out a will if they thought they were going to die imminently (which one would think if you knew you were planning suicide) rather unlikely - even though she was a rather chaotic sort of personality.

We need a list of everyone 'not' involved with this man. He seems to have been friends with every VIP in the world.

Why? Where did he actually get his money from? I believe Putin/Russian link will come out soon.

Agreed on that one for sure.

I think it's been gobsmacking just how many of these awful characters there are and very very gobsmacking to those of us who were more "Peace and Love and Kumbaya" back in the 1970s for instance and had felt it was a steady downward trajectory ever since - but this episode feels like falling straight off a cliff edge. For those of us who were more idealistic/alternative - Deepak Chopra fell straight off the moral cliff edge as "one of Them" during the last week. Glad I never went in for thinking of any of these "spiritual leader" people as gurus personally......

Anyone else so disappointed about Bill Gates? I really thought he was one of the good guys. Seems maybe not.

Yes, me too, although my DD has always thought otherwise.

Errrm....Bill Gates a good guy?!! LOL LOL LOL.

I'll just wander off and try and get my head around that thought for a moment....as someone who has long regarded him as evil and isn't in the slightest bit surprised he's been caught out involved in this.

Even before That Jab I seem to recall he was in trouble for medical experiments in Africa without proper consent by the people concerned - unless my memory deceives me...

^Seriously, if you know your brother is a rapist?^
I despair.

But Charles does not know his brother is a rapist, any more than you do,

Also as was posted earlier,
Doesn't mean you approve or condone their behaviour or forgive them for what they have done.
