Think we’re all just waiting for some spring like days. I retired at Christmas and really have just hibernated! Not a good start but a warm one inside!
What are you avoiding doing in this heat?
Anyone else sick of this winter? Here in North Wales we've had over a month of firstly snow then fog and now day after day of heavy rain.
Looking forward to spring.

I love Winter, just love it all. The way the landscape & trees look, the recipes, crunchy frosted grass and seedheads and the flocks of swirling birds. We are forecast some thunder for later and I'll be in my element!
I wish it was so poetic here. Mud replacing grass, spring bulbs looking soggy and half-hearted, as if they really want to go back inside themselves.
No birdsong either here- fields waterlogged and crops suffering from the constant seepage of the soil.
The landscape caught under endless cloud with no chinks of light, I'm really struggling to see anything here but the option to stay indoors and eat!
I usually prefer winter but this one has been hard here in the hills.
I've struggled with days of snow and ice. I can't chance going out with my dodgy hip. It's been foggy up here most days and not pleasant for walking or driving.
Now we have endless heavy rain . I am just trying to dry off after being soaked yet again.

How can anyone like this cold wet dark and dreary weather??
Well, it's filling the reservoirs. Better than standpipes next year.
Always look on the bright side.
😀Also plenty of flooding and coastal erosion.
I would rather do without water than do without sunshine...maybe I'm weird?
Well, we cannot do without either in fact.
However, you'd think, with all the warnings we've had for years about wetter, stormier weather becoming more frequent, that we'd have done more to prevent flooding and save water for dryer periods.
We're just not as clever as beavers, are we.
I love winter and suffer summer. Yes, it's wet at the moment but yesterday my eight-year-old grandson was outside his house playing football when torrential rain started. He came in eventually, laughing and saying, 'I love the rain Nana.'
I think that even after all this rain there will be water shortages if next summer is hot and dry.
Maybe not enough reservoirs now for the increasing population.

That,ll. e the global warming they,ve been talking about for decades….wetter weather ,flooding etc.We get much less snow than when I was younger in fact we,ve hardly seen snow so far this winter.Winter will often hang around until snow in April or even early May .
Do you remember Monty Don saying with climate change we would end up with more of a Mediterranean climate?
He forgot to tell us about the floods in Spain.

How can anyone like this cold wet dark and dreary weather?? It is driving me nuts and yes, we had a few weeks of ice last winter but at least we had some sunshine too!
I can't remember a winter as grey wet and cold as this one- ever!
Every day I look at the long term forecast and every day its the same for two weeks to come.
At least the winter olympics are starting so looking forward to that to cheer me up!
The only weather I really dislike is very hot weather. It can be as cold and wet as it likes, so long as it isn’t hot! I actually dread summer.
Strangely, I haven't found this winter too bad, though I usually can't wait for it to be over.
I'm not sure if that 's because it genuinely hasn't been too bad here in our part of Northamptonshire (I think we have had at least a couple of decent day's weather every week), or if after a year of horrible stress, I have had other things on my mind and simply haven't dwelt on the weather as much as I normally would.
It's probably a mixture of the two.

Yes I’m sick of it too but my sister who lives in West Wales she’s not had a lot of rain plenty of mostly dry days, I said are you sure about that? But she said she was, confusing!!
I'm in West Wales - and we've had plenty of rain!! Maybe she lives somewhere different to me and/or she's more used to rain than I am. I'm used to reasonable amount of rain - until I moved here and found just how often and just how heavy it is here (compared to what I know).
I had someone I knew visit me here from Devon not that long after I moved and I needed help with moving a waterbutt. I'm still wondering if she was serious when she proposed finding a way to save the water in it before I moved it! My response was "It's Wales! There'll be some more rain along soon".
To me I also remember the first heavy bit of rain after I moved here and I was incredulous - and telling myself I'd not seen rain like that since the monsoon rain in Singapore as a child. Then I found out that is far from abnormal here.
So - yep....I do long for those days with "my" weather - partly for sunny skies/drier and partly so I don't have to put on an extra layer of clothing to what I'm used to. I was given quite a "lecture" by someone here a bit back about me not wearing enough clothing for Wales and that was why I was cold.

The snowdrops, crocus, daffodils and some flowering shrubs are all beginning to bloom. Brighter days are not far away.
Just been checking on our Christmas roses - we pulled loads out last year because they spread like crazy and we needed some space. There are white ones, black ones, dark pink ones and some pretty pink and white ones that haven't opened properly yet so I'm not sure exactly what they are. We planted white ones and black (very deep purple really) ones 20 years ago and the 'pink' ones have all come from those.
Definitely not a dry January for most of us!
Winters are like any other season and there's no set pattern. I've known some fairly easy winters where there is sunshine, mild temperatures and not too much rain.
This winter has been wetter than usual with hardly a glimpse of sunshine. Where I live there has been a lot of foggy days which is unusual.
Winters aren't all alike.

It’s winter!
Doesn,t the rain, snow and cold come with the season every year?
Why would anyone believer will be different .
Well, snow would make a difference from the relentless rain.
🌨 Let it snow!
Or perhaps not, snow turns to slush.

Gloom doesn’t last like this normally paddyann54, I can’t remember another winter where for weeks on end there has been not one sunny day. It’s not the cold that gets to me, it’s the dark and the rain.
Dismal and depressing in Durham. There’s very little sign of anything Springlike here. I can’t remember the last time it didn’t rain and despite a plus temperature, it always feels below freezing. The local news informed us on Monday that January had been the coldest, wettest and darkest for many years in the NE, with February set to follow suit.
I take your point paddy but where are the cold, crisp days with bright, ice blue skies - that (anything) would be better than this wall to wall misery!
The only thing that has cheered me up on a day of yet more rain and cold is that I noticed a patch of purple hellebores have appeared in my “wild corner”. I have another clump on my rockery but they look rather sad at the moment. I missed my Thursday walk in the woods this week because of the weather and have cabin fever!

Sooo grey and wet here in N Surrey. I brought in some small cyçlamen from a very sodden window box. I snipped off some dead stuff and they will dry out in the cool kitchen for a few days. They have flowered valiantly since. November and there are new stems with flower buds coming up. Wonderful little plants. If they can keep their chins up so can I.
It’s just awful isn't it. I said to a friend yesterday this weather is ridiculous! Probably not the right word to use but still.
I haven’t seen my patio dry for what seems like months. I’m finding it very frustrating now.
