Here in South West Wales it is raining again. I think we haven’t had a day in the past month without rain. But the daffodils, camellias and snowdrops are out, so spring can’t be far away.

Yes, it’s been a long, damp, cold and grey winter and it would be lovely to see some sunshine and feel a bit more warmth, but of course, it still is winter even though we can see signs of spring with the snowdrops, crocuses and some daffodils starting to come out. As Jennifer says, we had a very dry spring and long dry summer last year, with the reservoirs at dangerously low levels and hosepipe bans in many places, so we really needed our winter to be fairly wet. It’s just that it seems unceasing, and some poor souls have suffered from dreadful flooding once more, that we need things to dry up a bit now.

I was doing my new allotment all last winter, almost every day for 4-5 hours. I know it rained some times but nothing like this year. Last winter was lovely, always something positive to do, sawing old raised beds, trips to re-cycling and so on and I kept fit

This year winter has felt very long and dreary but at least all my water butts are full. I have a house full of hobbies but am conscious of sitting too much. The allotment and its access are far too muddy to walk on and far too muddy to do anything

There are big machines blocking the road every day at the moment, going out by car is difficult and the lanes are wet and muddy with potholes, too dangerous and often too cold to ride my bike

It has been a long winter and it has not finished yet

Totally fed up with it can't wait for some dry sunny days.
Planning any sort of outing is miserable with the constant rain.

Yes1 Walked again this morning in wind and rain. Why do I do it? because I would go stir crazy if i didn't. I just hate being indoors all the time. But this weather is so depressing. i find it better walking with a friend as nice to chat and then stop in somewhere for a coffee. I like company too.

Sick of this weather... It's not cold in my part of the South always around 10 °C but the Rain is so miserable.
Can't wait for the heat and the Sun.

Yes I’m sick of it too but my sister who lives in West Wales she’s not had a lot of rain plenty of mostly dry days, I said are you sure about that? But she said she was, confusing!!

It's been dismal here in central Scotland for months! I despair. I did notice, however, that some snowdrops in our little town centre are beginning to stretch up to the (very wet and cloudy) sky, undaunted. I do need to follow their example, but I ache for warmth and blue skies.

The snowdrops, crocus, daffodils and some flowering shrubs are all beginning to bloom. Brighter days are not far away.

Although I do know what people mean about these seemingly endless weeks of rain, but after last years hot dry summer extending into the autumn, I am heartily relieved that we have had a wet winter.

Just imagine if winter had been dry followed by a spring with less than average rainfall and then another hot dry summer, we’d be in trouble, wouldn’t we?

Having said that I am still looking forward to some warm dry sunny days so that we can plan outings with certainty !

I agree, I appear to be cold and wet each day. I know the fellow who cuts my grass is desperate, but it isn't exactly the type of weather for lawn mowing. The grass is so soggy his lawn mower would sink. I am ever hopeful March will be warmer and drier.

Casdon Fri 06-Feb-26 11:10:43

Yes, definitely. I was just reading on the BBC news that South Wales has had 50% more rain than average in January, and it has rained every day of the year here in Powys so far. It’s raining now. It’s the gloom that gets to me, I am desperate to see the sun again.

Anyone else sick of this winter? Here in North Wales we've had over a month of firstly snow then fog and now day after day of heavy rain.
Looking forward to spring.
