Good morning everyone from sunny Lancashire.

It’s a beautiful day and we have been for a walk around the Dock. Now watching the steam trains.

Thinking of all who are struggling with life at the moment.

Wishing you all a good day, whatever you’re doing.

Good morning everyone,

It’s a beautiful morning with bright sunshine and blue sky, though cold. However, it’s preferable to what we’ve been enduring this last month or so.

We might go out for a walk later, well wrapped up, because I feel as if I’ve been stuck indoors for ages.

Wishing you all the best day possible.

Good Morning from a lovely sunny Co Armagh,
I’m over my cough , thank goodness , as I now have a “delicate” tummy !
My daughters are having a lovely time in Edinburgh, I got so cold last year that I vowed never to go back, but I’ll be over in the summer , well it’s not just as chilly then I hope
I lived near Glasgow as a child and remember being a miserable whiney person in the winter , it’s milder here
My granddaughter will be here soon to see if I need anything from the shop
I’m not venturing out much today !
Take care xx

Snuggle up today as it’s freezing up north! Can’t wait for the sunshine and a bit of heat! We have a cruise booked in June and it feels like ages to it. Had a lovely day yesterday at a well known book place in alnwick came home with loads and now can’t find anywhere to put them. Breakfast in bed courtesy of dear hubby. He was pleased with his duck I bought him as a jokey Valentine’s Day present. He loves ducks.

Good morning from Durham.

Unfortunately, I’ve lost my post, so just to add that it’s bright and sunny here - I had to do a double take!!
Despite all the panic yesterday, I’m pleased things are looking up for MD’s family - time to look after herself soon?

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning from Shropshire where the sun is shining🥳

The lanes were flooded all around DD’s house so we had to call on SIL to collect their overnight things in the tractor. The water always goes down pretty quickly so should be ok to get them home later. We have had a lie in as the children slept I until 8.45.A quiet day at home we hope.We are all tired after our big day out on Thursday!

Enjoy your weekend Redcar.I hope your back is ok.

Much better news Marydoll but poor Dollie😢

Thinking of all with mountains to climb and wishing everyone the best day possible🌻🦩

Good morning from a beautiful day in Wiltshire.

DH is about to do a 5 minute walk to the local football ground to watch DGS2 play football. It’s a rare Saturday when play has been possible as it’s usually waterlogged. DH hates football as does everyone else in the wider family. But the parents are adamant he won’t play rugby as they consider it too dangerous a game to play. He’s only 4 but I can absolutely imagine he would love to play as he’s got the build for it already. He’s the same weight and shoe size as his 7 year old sister.

We will be watching England play Scotland later on and then 🫎 Thermidor for dinner as it’s Valentine’s Day.

I hope your DGD is ok Marzipan - getting a hockey ball in the face must have been an awful shock for her.

Hope all the poorlies are doing ok. Thinking of FGTs as always.

Have a good day everyone.

Redcar Sat 14-Feb-26 08:54:08

marydoll what a traumatic morning for poor dollie, but good that there was a happy ending! A relief that your DDil is taking note of what’s going on in the ward!
I hope your pain eases today.
I’m late this morning, so will read all your posts later.
DD1’s birthday was celebrated yesterday, we’re staying in a large house overlooking the sea, with an indoor pool and hot tub.
Thinking of everyone climbing mountains.

Good morning all and the sun is out ☀️. Warnings of ice , so colder .

Will change the bed sheets today , get the paper , walk pooch and hunker down for the rest of the day in front of the woodburner.

I took DGD home yesterday , I’ll miss her but it’s time for both of us. Half term so hopefully a peaceful week.

We have a Thai meal for tonight’s dinner , courtesy of M and S.

I hope you all have a good day . ❤️

Hello everyone from West Lothian, where it’s bright but with a hard frost.
Yesterday was a fairly quiet, ‘catching up’ sort of day but at three o’clock, dh decided he wanted to look at cars as he has it in his mind that we need to replace ours 🤷‍♀️. I quite fancy an electric one (all views on this, particularly from existing electric car owners, are welcome). It was interesting but I’m always shocked at how expensive cars are (I probably shouldn’t be). On the way home we popped in to Sainsbury’s for a few bits and bobs and to collect my raised toilet seat (for when I get my hip replacement next month) from Argos. Ooh, the excitement 😂
In the evening, we watched a couple of episodes of Stranger Things, which I’m loving (dh less so!) and did a bit of knitting so that, hopefully the cardigan I’m making will still fit dgd when I finish.
Another quiet day today. Having coffee in bed then planning on cleaning the kitchen.
Have a lovely day everyone

Marydoll Sat 14-Feb-26 08:44:35

Good morning all from a chilly Glasgow, where it is -5°C, with snow predicted.
I have been up most of the night, with awful joint paint and when I looked out, there was a sprinkling of snow in the field next to us.

Yesterday's day out with Dollie started really well, She was very subdued, understandably, then brightened up at the sight of all the clothes in Primark.
I laughed, when she chose and off the shoulder top. When I said it was not appropriate for a ten year old, she told me, that she could wear a vest underneath it. ♥️
She was so excited, trying clothes on, This was the brightest I had seen her, since DIL became ill.
She paid with her bank card and to my relief, remembered her PIN.

Then things started to go wrong. We sat down for a rest, after meeting Papa, who had been dumped in Costa. Dollie became hysterical, saying, that she had lost her bank card. I couldn't understand it, for I had watched her putting it safely in her bag.
What I hadn't factored in, was that she had been continually checking to see if she still had it.
My heart was breaking for her, she was so distraught.

Failing to get a hold of DS to freeze it, I struggled back to Primark, so see if it had been handed in. The staff were so kind, but unfortunately, there was no sign of the card.
DS is not the most patient of people and I was dreading telling him. I did eventually get a text, saying he had frozen it.
On the way back to DH and Dollie, I spotted some security guards and asked them, if by any chance a card had been handed in.
Is it pink? It was lying on a bench, you can collect it in the Management Suite,
I could have wept with relief.

I took, a still sobbing Dollie, to the suite, where we were met with such kindness from everyone.
Well done, Team Braehead,
I then had to ask DH to unfreeze the card. I wasn't sure if he would!
Unknown to me, DH had messaged DS to ask him to be gentle with Dollie, she is so fragile at the moment.

Card unfrozen, the world was back in equilibrium. Claire's Accessorities is closing down and Dollie spotted lots of reduced goodies, strangely, the card never left her bag, gran paid! 😉
We also had to visit her favourite shop, to look for Anime items She was terrified that her card wouldn't work. I explained to the assistant, what had happened. As she was leaving, he handed get a lollipop to cheer her up. Strangers can be so kind.

As you can imagine, there was no time for MD to shop, but as we passed TKMaxx on the way to the car, DH said: ^ Go in and take as long as you want^. 😱
I was looking for a new apron, the ones I bought in Rome many moons ago, are all, tired and done, ( Just like their owner),
I came out with a Phase Eight £85 sweater, in chartreuse, my favourite colour, for £18.
That made my day, along with Dollie telling me in McDonald's, that this was the best day ever. 😍

Later, DS took her to visit DIL, who messaged to say DIL was much brighter and was gossiping about the two women in the ward, who had taken a dislike to each other. Progress indeed,
She is still connected up to all sorts of tubes, but she is getting there.

Due to all the angst of the last few weeks, I forgot to do the new parish rotas and they finished last weekend,
I sent out a ^ help email and many kindly offered to cover, What a relief!
This morning website and bulletin to do, but before that, a hot bath to try and ease my pain.

Yesterday was the anniversary of a rather tipsy DH proposing fifty years ago. For the first time ever, we forgot, Is the a sign our marriage is over.? 😪

To all the poorlies, including LLFL, I hope you feel better.
Enjoy your Saturday.

Good morning where the sun has made its promised appearance here in Suffolk. It will be pleasant walking the little dog soon as the lack of rain yesterday and the wind has begun to dry the surface mud at least…. But still a lot more to do.

DS was planning to visit with his family today but I persuaded him to stay at home. A friend from Southwold messaged me yesterday to say that the A12 was closed all weekend at Yoxford where they are building a new roundabout and huge car park, all to do with the construction of Sizewell C.

The timing of the closure seems badly timed since Yoxford is on the only main road up to the coast from Ipswich and further afield and goodness knows which minor roads the diversions will take. Not idea for the half term holiday makers especially any towing caravans.

Hope all have a good day with at least a hint of sun.

harrigran Sat 14-Feb-26 08:29:37

Good morning from a cold but bright NE, where we have a dusting of snow.
DS and GD are visiting this afternoon but GD will be stopping en route to take photographs for her art.
Yesterday was a quiet day, washed some bedding and took the opportunity to read some magazines.
Have a good day.

Good morning all from a frosty Black country but plenty of blue sky and the sun is shining.
Had a disturbed night woken twice with a car alarm sounding off.
Need to go to the bank today cheque to pay in and a bill to pay in one hand and out with the other.
No other plans as yet but have started another book so that will keep me quiet.
Usual full English calling so will catch up with everybody's happenings later.
Best wishes for anyone celebrating, safe travels those on the move and virtual hugs where needed.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans and may you all find a little bit of ☀️.

Good morning everyone from the East Coast and I think we are going to see the sun today.

Yesterday I had a walk to meet my best friend for a coffee and a chat. We had a look around the shops too. I bought some chocolate bars for DH. He likes the peanut in chocolate type. I picked up a box of butter tablet fudge for me and walked away with it in the basket and then went and put it back as I can’t stick at one piece. DH saw me as he was heading to work and gave me a lift back home. He said you need to ring your mum. He had spoken to her and she was very upset. My sister as usual. We are at a loss what to do about her. She’s an alcoholic and extremely unstable.

Today we need to go for a big shop. It’s costing us so much getting bits day to day from our local Morrisons. DH is cooking me a steak meal tonight. DD bought us a lovely bottle of English sparkling wine for Christmas so we will open that too. We have smoked salmon for breakfast which I will prepare for him. He’s a very good egg my DH.

Have a lovely day if you can bringing sparks of joy🌼
Thoughts to those poorly or sad today. 💐

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently -3° and icy. Blue skies though. GrandMattie could you supplement your storage heaters with an electric heater for particularly cold days? Grammaretto have a lovely time and safe journey north.
Yesterday the family had a lovely lunch courtesy of ds. The boys behaved impeccably too. Ds is heading to York tomorrow for a few days. He has to take holidays and decided to visit York. After lunch I pottered about.
Last night was interrupted four times for loo visits and I had to take painkillers twice for my feet, however I had good stretches of sleep in between and feel reasonably ok this morning.
Today I'll strip the bed and get the whites done. Then off to the local garden centre to meet my friend for breakfast and a blether. I'll definitely need to scrape the car before I go. Foolishly I forgot to put its protective cover on last night. Dinner will be concocted from whatever is in the fridge. Probably pasta and a limp salad. Have a good day all.

Good morning from South Lanarkshire which isn’t white like yesterday so I should be okay for walking the half mile or so to catch the bus to Biggar. I’m going to visit my friend who is not making a huge recovery from a serious illness. The third member of our trio is going to be there too, she wants to update us both on her state of health so we are a bit anxious.

It’s actually been a wearying couple of weeks so as all I had to say was a bit downcast I decided not add to the various burdens people are troubled with and just hope things improve in some way for us all.

I did meet up for a coffee with DGD1 at a hospital appointment which was really nice, as she is so busy now. She has reached the stage in her medical studies where she is doing placements in various areas. This one is surgical and I think her farming background is standing her in good stead as she seemed to be coping well!

I hope you have a safe journey Grammaretto and enjoy your weekend, you are indefatigable!

Good wishes to everyone.

Good morning everyone from Inverness where we’ve still got snow and it’s cold at -1°
Ouch your poor DGD marzipan pleased to hear she’s ok though
I’m not sure what we’re doing today yet, there’s no chance of any gardening but hopefully catch up with DD2 and family at some point.
If you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day have a lovely time ❤️
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good morning everyone from a bright and frosty Northampton, makes a change to see some sun 🌞!
A day spent indoors again yesterday,.due to the weather and my poorly knee, but I found enough to do; made a curry and spent the afternoon reading. Made a good start on The Bell Jar, about a third of the way through it.

DS will be round later to take me to the vets with the cats as it is time for their annual jabs and health check-up; hope.they behave themselves!

I will probably hop on the bus to the shops after lunch and then be back in time to watch the Six Nations rugby.

Take care everyone and have a pleasant day.

Greyduster Sat 14-Feb-26 08:00:48

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where we have the sun rising into a clear blue sky!! There’s a light frost on the ground though. I woke up feeling as if I had spent the night stuffed into a tea chest. Everything hurts.

School was good yesterday but no-one told me that there was to be a special assembly at two o’clock so I didn’t finish my list. Hey ho!

We had a lovely dinner last night to round off GS’s birthday week in his favourite pub restaurant. The food and the service were, as always, impeccable but it’s always busy and they really do need a bigger car park. We skipped dessert and came home for a chocolate fudge cake that DD made filled with fresh cream and black cherry compote.

I will go to Aldi in about an hour to do a small shop. DS is coming down tomorrow and I shall cook lunch for us.

Have the best day you can folks.

madeleine45 Sat 14-Feb-26 07:53:01

Good morning Mick and all GN's on a dark, still and chilly morning from North Yorkshire. Wishing a happy valentines day to everyone.

Usual messy night, and am rather struggling this morning, not helped by a headache and still missing my good glasses , which is definitely not helping. I am reluctantly coming to the conclusion that I cant wait any longer and so on monday, if there is no sign of them I shall have to find the prescription and go back to specsavers for an expensive replacement.

They did say that today should be the best day for weather , but dont know what we will actually get. If we do get some sunshine I will get the picnic box ready and go out to make the most of it, but definitely have all my own food and drinks with me as no doubt everywhere will be full of special (expensive) valentines offers and booked up .

Yesterday was a mixture. I was definitely not 100% and sounded croakier than usual. My first meeting for the Talking Newspaper was at 1pm, and I hoped that it was being led by a lady I already knew from Upfront, who would know my normal speaking voice. So the morning was filled with everyday jobs, making shopping lists for later and getting myself ready to look reasonably tidy and efficient with note book and phone at the ready. I managed most things, but my hair was a pain, and despite brushing it and dampening it down etc., chose this day to be fly away and refusing to look at all neat or tidy. When I have not been well, it is always my hair that shows the truth , however well I can disguise other parts.

Got to the meeting ok, and there were quite a large group of people there. Three of them were people involved with running the group, admin and editorial and someone who was there to explain overall set up and their plans for changes in website and how content is provided . Then there were two people who are already readers at the moment, who were therein a double capacity. To give us some idea of what they did and how it works in practical, but they were also there to see the new web and learn what changes are planned for the future.

An interesting group of newbies, with wideranging backgrounds, and reasons for wanting to be involved. So from a lady who had lived in south africa for many years, a social worker who wants to fill in a gap in her knowledge having done more work with hearing needs ,who knows Makaton and BSL, which I have noted, for hopefully later at some time to do a bit of practise myself. A library worker ,who is involved with the scheme already etc etc.

It turned out that I provided the "antique" part to the scheme.! We went round and gave potted histories and our involvement in talking newspapers so far. One of the staff group talked of it beginning in the 1970's and the changes that have gone on from there and how people now receive their copies , whether by web or now quite a lot on alexa etc etc. I then told them of my first involvement in the process, which was indeed in the 1970's, where we met at the library, sorted out our specific articles, stuck them to cartridge paper, with corrections and crossings out, so that when you read them, they did not add rustlings and cracklings to the recording, with our own sound engineer, and read into a microphone, with him getting us to re record any muffled sentences. Quite a change to the situation today, and so the reading holds no worries for me, but I will have to be shown how to use zoom or find out how good my laptop is for recording stuff.

It was all very interesting and everyone there was keen to belong. Their paper is no longer every week but goes out over a longer period, so that technically you need to be aware of the timings of things, so no good talking of something happening which will have finished before they get their copy. So it is now more divided to news over a specific area, and then a separate "magazine" part which can range from historical interests in the area, to specific local happenings etc. They are now trying to update things and get more people using ways to input things that will save time, make it more efficient and cover things like readers being away on holiday etc so having some stand ins.

This hopefully should work to our advantage, as being newbies on the plot, we will be shown the latest up to date version, and wont have to convert from older styles. So fortunately for me they are still sorting the new bits with their editor and sound engineer and it will give me time to catch up on how to use zoom or whatever they want me to use and have a little go before I manage to make a fool of myself by forgetting to use mute or press the wrong thing and cut people off!

I came out from the meeting feeling very positive. It will be good to be part of the scheme again and able to contribute . It links in from many years ago when I think my first involvement with charities for blind or impaired vision, was raising money for Guide dogs for the Blind. After much fundraising a la Blue Peter , my class and parents and friends raised enough for the cost of a guide dog, and a little later ,my friends and I in a choir raised enough for half a guide dog! So as my life went on wherever I have lived, there has always been some involvment in whatever was possible that fitted into my life, and again Covid had caused that gap as there was no way to meet up and do things and so it all lapsed.

I was then asked by someone else to give an interview for the car scheme as a user when I went for a cataract operation. They provide cars for such as hospital appointments or going to places that may be difficult to reach especially for early appointments from up the dales etc. But they also want to show this sort of one off appointment, where you normally can drive yourself but of course not when you are having anything done to your eyes etc. So am checking the diary and that will be another little thing next week sometime.

I went on from there to get my shopping, which diminished my pleasant mood quite quickly! Unavailable stock, no local newspapers left etc etc and the worst bit of news was that my specific brand of ground coffee had none at all available and had not had any for a few days, and when I asked a staff member to check, she informed me that they had none in store, and that they were no longer going to get that but a different one. Oh yes and that the price of £3.60 - which I thought was quite enough as it is - would be going up to £4 something for the replacement. That brought me down with a bump and I was glad to get home and have a restoring coffee while I still have some of my favourite blend!!

Watched a bit of the olympics ,especially the great snowboarding and that was about it for the day, and so today it is catching up with bits and pieces, getting the Yorkshire post and if it is good weather I will go out to enjoy a little time in the countryside, if bad weather I shall curl up here and do some reading and get the Makaton book out,to do some practise and see how much I have remembered. Think that I may concoct some curry this morning before going out , as I think it is better for a rest after you make it before you reheat it. I have a few veg at the ready and a celery that wants using up and they can all be chucked into the mix and see how it goes.

Hope you have a good trip to Bicester Mick. Hope the day warms up for you GrandMattie. Hope the day stays well for you too Gillymo, Ashcombe thanks for the reminder. I must get my passport out and check the end date. Think it is ok but better to check now than be in a flap later on.

Well fingers crossed I am pleased to say that although it does look flipping cold not a sign of rain so time to get myself sorted, picnic box at the ready, and pick up the paper on my way out . I will actually be warmer in the car than in here as the car heater is very good! No good thinking of going up the dales as there has been snow and floods etc but I will do a weather and road check and might even get to the coast. Hurrah for a chance to break out wherever I end up.

Wishing you all a good weather day, no rain and a chance to be in touch with those you love. Enjoy your day
