Cataract Procedures: Mono Focal or Multi Focal Lens

I have been referred for cataract procedures and can’t decide whether it is worth paying, to get multi focal lens. On paper, this would seem the better option, as you don’t need glasses afterwards.

I have spoken to several people about this and some have said that they have found it difficult to get used to multi focals, Others have said that they are perfectly happy with the mono focal lens provided on the NHS and have just bought some reading glasses.

If anyone has had this done, what’s been your experience?

I m in the latter group and so are all my friends at work as we are all constantly losing our £1.99 reading glasses. Best one when I asked my work mate if she d seen my glasses, as I d lost them, and she says no, and I looked at her as she said no, and she had a pair on her head and a pair on her eyes 🤣🤣🤣

I’ve had cataract procedures with mono lenses in both eyes and don’t need glasses.

I had multifocal lens fitted about 6 years ago. Yes they are great as no glasses required.
HOWEVER, be warned.
I have had to give up all night time driving. My eye surgeon says the multifocal lens make the light refraction much much worst at night. When I asked if they could be removed, he said they become like pieces of glass after a period of time, and would shatter if he tried to remove them.
He said I should sue Optimax who were the ones who fitted the lens in the first place, as they did not warn me about this huge problem.
