I shop at John Lewis, Waitrose but the giddy limit is buying eggs from an egg farm.

She is almost 13 and an authority on most things.

Of course thirteen year old girls are authorities on most things.
Our role, as grandparents is to say " yes, dear", wherever we buy our eggs.

HelterSkelter1 Caleys was where my love affair 💚 with JL started. A lovey shop, including the wonky flooring.

Sago

I’m screaming inside,,,,,,..I hate the word posh.
I would hate be described as posh.
I want to put posh in room 101.
Sorry.

I didn't say I was pleased.

Obviously, my mother would have been.

You do get what you pay for with eggs

Lidl and Aldi are not very good, or consistent as far as gf products are concerned so that dictates my shopping habits.

My nearest Waitrose is a 4 minute walk and I go daily!! How posh is that. But maybe would be posher if the butler went instead. And it's my nearest supermarket anyway.

My nearest JL was a 15 minutes drive away opposite Windsor castle and anecdotally there was an underground tunnel from the castle to the shop. Maybe true. The shop closed as it was old and couldn't be adapted for accessibility. I think there were too many stairs and half floors. But it was the loveliest of old stores and I so miss it. It was very posh!

Fatoldlady Wed 18-Feb-26 17:26:37

Not sure if I'm really posh - I have chickens, but my nearest John Lewis is around 60 miles away, so that's not a store I frequent.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 18-Feb-26 17:22:56

Fallingstar I cannot get on with Lidl, our nearest Aldi is ok for top up bits and bobs (if they are in stock)

Fallingstar Wed 18-Feb-26 17:20:13

I go to Lidl, and do an online shop at Asda, I sometimes get fancy bits from Waitrose or M&S but can’t afford to do a weekly shop there.
I don’t think that doing a weekly shop at more expensive supermarkets makes a person posh but it does make them wealthier. Nothing wrong with that of course, am just stating a fact.
And am quite happy with the food I buy in my local Lidl.

“She is almost 13 and an authority on most things”………..well, aren’t they all? 😂

I should perhaps have added that I love her to pieces.

BlueBelle Wed 18-Feb-26 17:08:36

I don’t know how I ve ever lived not frequenting John Lewis 🤣🤣🤣 B and M and the Range suit me
Aldi and Asda for me I find MandS way too expensive for food

Visgir1 Wed 18-Feb-26 17:04:44

That's me too then, I use Waitrose to do my shopping and get it delivered every 2 weeks. My sister and I call John Lewis the mother ship! We frequently touch base with it.
I shop weekly at M&S for Fruit and Veg however, I don't have a farm shop near by but I do have a Milkman.
But this doesn't me my posh!

I remember that. Great sketch. "I know my place"as the working man.

TerriBull Wed 18-Feb-26 16:50:48

I'm not sure John Lewis is posh, well not enough for Carrie Johnson when the family moved into Downing Street, John Loo's, just way too provincial don't ya knowshock Some designer by the name of Lulu Lytle was commissioned to pimp the gaffe up! Give it that certain Madame Pompadour naff make over

kittylester Wed 18-Feb-26 16:47:45

Love that sketch.

BlueBelle Wed 18-Feb-26 16:46:24

That link was for the sketch by Ronnie Corbett Ronnie Barker and John Cleese…. ‘I look up to him’ it’s very funny Sorry link was wrong

Purplepixie Wed 18-Feb-26 16:36:26

Wow! I’m posh! I shop at a local farm shop. Special treats from Waitrose and M&S. Sainsbury’s for weekly shop. But I love charity shops and good old fashioned jumble sales at the church. Garage sales are good as well.

kittylester Wed 18-Feb-26 16:28:33

Actually, I have a weekly delivery from Sainsbury's and only top up at Waitrose.

Hiraeth Wed 18-Feb-26 16:11:19

Brilliant BlueBelle I haven’t laughed so much for a long time !

Oreo Wed 18-Feb-26 16:10:45

I expect you will get over it AGAA4 tho if you’re a regular at Fortnums the poshness can be reinstated wink

annodomini Wed 18-Feb-26 16:10:18

Close family links with Waitrose and JL, but where can I find an accessible egg farm?

AGAA4 Wed 18-Feb-26 16:07:51

Dare I mention Fortnums. Oh Oreo I am disappointed. I had my 5 minutes of poshness taken away.

Oreo Wed 18-Feb-26 16:07:14

Oh yes BlueBelle the ‘ I look up to him’ class sketch😄
