I have a friend who has a multimillionaire stepson.
The economies that family make, while having three beautiful homes, make me smile.
There is certainly no extravagant living.
He went to his D’s graduation in trainers.

I'm not sure posh equates to wealthy/rich. I know quite a few rich people but they are not what I would call 'posh'. They flaunt their wealth. I think real 'posh' people just are and don't shout about it.

I am neither except in dgd's eyes.

I know 2 multi millionaires through past employment. Their wives shop at Lidl and Aldi picking up a few things from Asda. One has many HMOs and is a very well known property developer. The other has several commercial cleaning companies. Their homes are full of antique furniture set in large grounds. If you spoke to them you would never know how wealthy they are. Not all posh people wear a label saying rich.

Has anybody talked about the origin of the word? Port outward starboard home? The best cabins on the ships to India.
But class and status in Modern Britain, a whole subject to be discussed.

I like to buy my biscuits from Fortnum & Mason especially since they have refill packets available of my favourites.

It’s harder to ‘shop posh ‘ nowadays. Our long main shopping street now only has Primark. We lost Debenhams and John Lewis some time ago, plus the independent department stores have also long gone. The shopping mall has Next, Seasalt, Zara and one or two others. We don’t have a Waitrose. I shop in M & S food, for certain things, similarly in Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Home Bargains and Lidl.

Posh shopping is now, I believe, totally online.

Bournemouth was a lovely shopping centre. DH comes from there and sis in law still lives there. But it is a shadow of itself now. All the dept and large stores have gone. So very sad. But we were very lucky to have had the pleasure of them. I believe the gardens are still there and maintained.

I bet the red squirrels have emigrated to Brownsea Island, too!

A friend of my mum's sold her lucrative business and went on an "early retirement" cruise with her husband and 10 year old daughter. They took me with them to "childmind" their daughter whilst they were out in the evening etc.
It was the new QE2 and the food was totally fabulous. Lobster for breakfast if you fancied it.
The mum had the same breakfast (Cornflakes) and lunch (ham salad) every day!
I couldn't believe it.

I think probably we like what we know, and, as we get older we know what we like.

Wealthy doesn't mean "posh" though does it!

I buy eggs from an egg station located in the grounds of a palace. No Waitrose or John Lewis near me but there is a tiny M & S food hall two miles away and I sometimes pop in there if I'm not near Aldi!

Charity shops rely on supplies from people who might not necessarily shop there.

I mainly shop at John Lewis and Waitrose. In a previous existence I was a Management Trainee at JL in Reading. I am not posh. But, slightly edging into poshness - the very edges - if I am at the Royal Academy in Piccadilly, I pop over to Fortnum’s for lunch. Chicken salad and a Knickerbocker Glory. Scrumptious.

One of my childhood memories - going to Bournemouth on holiday, walking up from the beach through the park (there were red squirrels in the park then) and having a knickerbocker glory in Bobby's department store.
The models would be gliding between the tables, showing off the latest fashions.

I do some shopping in Waitrose and M&S because I still get staff discount in both. I don't go and shop in JL because it would mean hiking over to Reading or High Wycombe, but stiil buy white goods on line from them because I get discount. I get my eggs from a friend who keeps chickens.

Out of curiosity, I did the BBC questionnaire ‘What class are you’. According to BBC, I am an elite. No kidding!

Posh as I am, I don’t mind slumming it at Morrisons.

Having bought both, I would dispute the fact that Duchy Organic eggs are better than eggs fresh from the farm.

Now that does sound posh 😁

I’ve yet to buy any good bread or croissants in Waitrose but they have a very good wine section.
