I bought several bunches the other day and put them in jugs, I collect vintage jugs so always have some to hand. My DH was never one for buying me flowers but is a keeper in very many different ways, when I went to the local supermarket he tried valiantly to wash some dishes and tidy the kitchen, he is disabled due to a stroke so this was a gargantuan effort. He was sitting exhausted on the sofa when I returned saturated with washing up water but smiling. He generally can’t stand for long and needs a walker or quad stick but somehow he did it, though I had to rinse a few dishes again whilst he wasn’t looking and dry the puddle of washing up water on the floor. Of course he then suffered post stroke fatigue that means he has taken to his bed for a day.

How sweet! I haven't seen dafs in the stores yet, but they must be coming soon. I love them; they are one of my favourites.

I bought six bunches last week. They’re not huge so fitted in my big glass vase. They signify hope to me. Spring is on its way.

Your daffodils look gorgeous! In my humble opinion daffodils look best in jugs, I only use proper vases if I've run out of jugs. Mine today are in an old fashioned brown glazed jug, and a pretty blue and white patterned jug. I broke my Cornish ware blue and white striped one years ago and would like to replace it. Having just googled, I'll be going without a Cornish ware one, they are very expensive!

I'm lucky DH often picks me up daffodils when he goes to the shops once they're in season but 3 bunches (when they're bundled together) is the most I've had. He usually gets me other flowers on a weekly basis but his biggest triumph was for our 25th Wedding Anniversary when he got a bouquet made up replicating my bridal flowers.

Wow! Lucky you. Enjoy.

Mine bought me two lovely large bunches of carnations today. He never usually buys flowers unless it's an anniversary or something, and what he hadn't remembered was that I always get daffodils delivered with my groceries when they are in season, so I've had to decant flowers and co-opt jugs too grin.

There must be something in the water. . .
(they do look lovely though)

I thought you were going to say he bought tulips, lilies or roses. When I had my first baby my husband came to visit but forgot the flowers he’d bought. I asked what they were and he didn’t know but thought carnations (which I dislike). They were actually begonias.

I like your pretty vases btw.

I had a vase like the one on the left but it got broken ☹

You chose your husband very wisely, Witzend.

They look lovely.

I always have to buy three bunches but am tempted to copy your DH next week…!

Oreo Thu 19-Feb-26 13:56:44

Did he say why he went mad and bought 12 bunches?😁

TheWeirdoAgain60 Thu 19-Feb-26 13:56:37

Sorry, I meant cereal, not ceral!

TheWeirdoAgain60 Thu 19-Feb-26 13:55:56

I had a friend give me a gorgeous bunch of flowers recently but I had no vase, so I used a ceral box!

How gorgeous they all are!

Spring has arrived in your house, how lovely! I’d put some in the bedroom so they are the first thing you see in the morning.

DollyD Thu 19-Feb-26 11:55:50

How lovely! They look beautiful….
You can’t have too many daffodils 😊

Allira Thu 19-Feb-26 11:50:24

Quite honestly, there's no point in buying just one bunch of daffodils 😂

daffodil x 100

The only flowers DH ever gave me were those that remained after a funeral or wedding in the school chapel, quite rare events.

He really is a keeper, I had a lovely kind H for 60 years but flower buying, or any gift giving was missing from his consciousness.
I bought my own presents for years with the generous money he gave me.
Just treasure him and show your appreciation.

TBH dh has never been much of a flower-giver at all, which is why - some years ago now - I was very bemused when he came home with a lovely bouquet - and it wasn’t my birthday, or our anniversary, or even Valentine’s Day.

He said it was 50 years to the day since we’d first met! And that was several years before we were married.

I was flabbergasted! Although I remembered the occasion very well (still do) I wouldn’t have had a clue about even the month, let alone the actual date!

He’s a keeper smile

Yes - I was going to make his favourite cottage pie tonight anyway - I might have to add a pudding now, too….

How lovely! I used to have daffodils all over the house but it was much bigger than my little flat so only one bunch these days.

Witzend Thu 19-Feb-26 10:54:37

He came back with 12 bunches!

I had a job to find enough vases! A old friend who visited several days ago had brought a lot, too, and they haven’t quite had it yet, so the usual vases weren’t available.
