I wanted to post something positive today and a story that has captivated millions of people is that of Punch the monkey.

Punch was born in captivity and rejected by his Mother, keepers at his Japanese zoo gave him a stuffed orang utan, Punch takes his stuffed toy everywhere, sleeps with it, hugs and kisses it and even tries to feed it!

The rest of the troop would not accept Punch and bullied him badly, yet he persevered and eventually was accepted and received the love and affection he was craving.

It’s such a heartwarming story and a great lesson in life,

Here’s a link for anyone that hasn’t heard the story.

Many years ago scientists were experimenting with baby monkeys. They were given the choice of a cold metal "mother" that produced milk, or a soft furry that didn't. They all clung to the furry mothers rather than going for the milk.

I caught this news item and it made me say “Ahhhhh” as I’m sure it did with many others.
Everyone - animals too - needs someone/ something to lavish affection on and gain comfort from.

I didn’t know if this was dry wit or what 🤣🤣 what ‘shaved monkeys’ in the hit TV series Small Prophets (please watch, it’s just what we need as a pick me up) I will look forward to seeing Punch 🌷

OMG, common now, why does everyone feel the need to constantly correct everyone on their spelling, punctuation & gramma? You all knew what the lady was going on about; you had the link also to read about the monkey if you did not know. Come on. Life's too short to constantly be a know-it-all. Be kind, and if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. We all learnt that as children.

The downside to this story is that as usual those that will take advantage … will!
Punch, the toy, is produced by IKEA for $19.99 I believe … It sold out immediately this story got out and the usual ebay scalpers had the toy on NBA’s for hundreds $ …quoting dollars cos I got this story from CNN .

Galaxy

I heard the reason he was bullied by the others was because his punctuation was poor.

Don’t you mean punch-tuation ?

crazyH Sun 01-Mar-26 12:12:43

SORES

Sago

SORES

punctuation needed in the heading, my goodness!

Capital letter needed at start of sentence.

that was mean - I believe you didn’t understand and thought I was perhaps criticising your grammar - no, I was suggesting your heading had a double meaning, so

‘Punch’ the monkey
or
Punch, the monkey

but now we know, it is a sweet story, thanks

I was fully aware the title lacked punctuation, it was to attract attention.

Your comment didn’t have a winking emoji or anything to indicate it was tongue in cheek.

Anyway, I don't think I'm alone in feeling relieved!

Yes Sago, I have been watching Punch, most of yesterday. He is absolutely adorable. His keeper is certainly keeping an eye on him.

Actually SORES names are rarely written in « « marks.
«Sir Keir Starmer» ? «William Shakespeare» ?
I don’t think so.

I saw this story Sago and it warmed my heart.
As to your punctuation - wink, wink, - the irony was not lost on me.

Oreo Sun 01-Mar-26 10:38:44

At least it engendered some interest Sago wink

Oreo Sun 01-Mar-26 10:37:52

Isn’t it possible to get past the punctuation, a missing comma!

Labradora Sun 01-Mar-26 10:18:34

I'm glad this isn't the way it read!
😱

Me too!!!

I thought from the headline that this might be a manifestation of some new horrendous online cruelty.
So relieved !!!
