Is expensive chocolate worth the extra money?

If you don't mind small imperfections, like the decoration being crooked (or completely absent) "Wonky Coffee" online has diversified into wonky Belgian and Swiss chocolates. They say their suppliers are among the leading chocolatiers.

In mid-December I ventured to order some Belgian ones. They tasted just as good to me as the ones from Hotel Chocolat, they looked similar, with the same kind of varieties, and were presented visually just as nicely, in fitted trays in a box. The box was labelled "Wonky Chocolates".

The label was the only thing that stopped me passing them round to everyone who entered the house over Christmas. Not everyone may have appreciated "seconds". (All the more for me)

Definitely. You will notice that products made by Cadbury are called Dairy Milk, not Dairy Milk chocolate.
This is because they do not contain sufficient cocoa solids to be labelled chocolate.
It's a subject close to my heart, of course..

Yes, definitely.
I'm heading to France in two week's time, and my first stop will be a swoop on my favourite chocolate shop.

I think you can tell the difference but they are all nice. Lindt is my favourite. Lidl dark chocolate 70% with raspberry is my day to day one.

Yes, I like Lindt too, again the chocolate doesn’t contain palm oil.

I always go for Hotel Chocolat and I have never been disappointed.

I buy an Easter selection for the grandchildren and they are always pleased.

The days are long gone when you could buy most makes of chocolate and enjoy them.

Unquestionably you can tell the difference. You can buy a box of chocolates entirely of your choosing.

I have a weakness for chocolates with marzipan centres, but I like truffles, rose, violet, vanilla, orange, Turkish delight - well I don’t think there is one I don’t like.

The chocolate - dark or milk has a depth and complexity missing in other less expensive chocolates.

Saying all that, because they are expensive, I don’t sit and eat my way through them very quickly - which for me is another bonus.

Their Easter eggs are a joy to behold😊

I think the cheaper chocolates have palm oil in the ingredients and that's why it doesn't taste as nice. Cadbury used to be a favourite but not now

I just like chocolate and in days gone by have been known to eat cooking chocolate when the need arose.
I don’t know whether you can still buy cooking chocolate, I never bake now.

You can still get it, but I have never used it because I don't the taste or texture of cooking chocolate. I always just buy the cheapest supermarket own brand chocolate for baking instead - which is actually cheaper than the cooking chocolate anyway.

I must confess, I used to be a chocoholic, any chocolate tasted good to me 🤪. But a lot is UPF now and I decided if I couldn’t give it up, then I would eat something ‘ better ‘. Now I always have a bar of organic 85% cocoa in the cupboard. I grate a square onto my breakfast and have a small sliver with unsalted nuts and a glass of red wine at the weekend as a treat. ( Michael Mosley approved of dark chocolate and red wine and he had done the research ). It is so intense a taste that it doesn’t ‘ call ‘ to me from the cupboard. I consider myself ‘ cured ‘ as long as I’m not tempted to have milk chocolate 🙃.

Depends what you feel like. Generally, I prefer better quality chocolate but sometimes just want some of the cheaper stuff.

Chocolate with no palm oil is much nicer. You can get cheaper brands without it, I prefer dark chocolate, and I like Lidl own brand. I don’t eat Cadbury chocolate these days, it’s yuck.

Cheap chocolate doesn't taste as good as the more expensive kind.

I'm quite choosy when it comes to chocolate too - I would rather have really good quality chocolate less often than more of the cheaper stuff. I can definitely tell the difference. I try not to eat chocolate that often, so when I do, I want something that I know I'm going to really enjoy.
