Denture Fixative

Does anyone else wear a denture and do you have success with any of the fixative creams.
I have an upper denture and use a fixative cream.
At present it is Fixodent Plus - unbeatable bite it says. I apply it in the morning and by 5pm or earlier it is non existent. It needs applied again before I eat my dinner. Forget the tv advert where the denture wearer bites into an apple. I have to use a small paring knife. All the brands are
the same. Is it just me........

I think some of it depends on the denture. When I had one with just a few teeth on it I used Fixodent and was lucky if it lasted till the evening. Now I've lost practically all my top teeth and have a plate that covers the roof of my mouth. It fits perfectly and stays in place all day without needing a fixative. I can even eat corn on the cob which was a definite No with the old one.

I'm another with no molars on upper jaw. I hate my plate and I cut food very small.
Fixodent certainly doesn't work all day. But I have to use it if I go out in the evening.
Are there any alternatives?

Don't know whether you can still get it but DH (a retired dentist) swore by Wernets Powders

Wernrtd was the best.uou can't get it now ,I have tried.i use polygrip which is very similar and is very strong and holds well boots used to do one of their own but can't get that now either
I can't use creams and gels they just aren't strong enough for me and ooze
You can only get polygrip from Amazon or eBay
but quite expensive

eBay is cheaper Amazon add all sorts on util until it's ridiculous last time I tried the price came to £12 .I looked on eBay and got some for about £7-99

I don’t know anyone who gets on with those plates.
I have one (side molar on each side).
I use fixodent, but oh dear, it’s horrible stuff & tastes salty.

Thank you everyone. Seems like most of us have the same difficulty. If I'm out for the day I carry a tube of fixative in my bag.
I also have a spare denture which is always in my bag and was very glad to have it when one evening, eating out, the denture I was wearing cracked into two pieces.

I use Polygrip flavour free on my partial denture and I find it keeps it secure till I’m ready to remove it.
I did you Fixodent until about 9 months ago when I bought Polygrip by mistake.

I'm pretty sure I've already tried Polygrip but will give it another go. My dear sister in law, now deceased, used a fabric that you cut to size.

DH says powder ones are much better than the paste type ones.

Don’t waste your money: useless.

I hate to disagree with a dentist but I find Wernet's Powder totally useless with no 'grip' at all. My little upper plate will fall out if I yawn when I use that, never mind try eating anything.

I used to be happy with Fixodent Professional which would last all day but it seems to have disappeared when they introduced Fixodent Ultimate.

Ultimately useless, if you ask me! It has no staying power at all and my denture feels very insecure by lunch time.

Of the others, Poligrip is ... Meh! Sometimes stays in place for the day, other times not. I think it depends what I eat. Fixodent Plus is about the same: it might last all day but, at least 50% of the time will need re-applying by late afternoon. Like the OP, I carry a tube everywhere!

'ultimately useless'. ...... Made me laugh.
I never thought that the fixadent may be affected by what we would eat.

It always seems to me that the fixative is more likely to lose its grip if I eat something particularly dense in texture - a thick steak, say or a lump of raw carrot. This may be because I tend to chew more on one side than the other so there are undue strains more on one side of the denture/fixative than the other. I may be completely wrong about this, it's just a theory based on casual observation.
