My son's house backs onto a small park and his 2 cats are in their element in the spring, catching baby mice and bringing them in through the cat flap.

My son has been known to get up at 3 am when he can hear scratching behind the wardrobe, he catches the mouse and puts it in a box with air holes, and drops it off a mile from home on his way to work the next day.

A cardboard poster tube, or the inside tube of bacofoil or similar.
Givesthe mouse safe respite from the cat overnight - and then you can free him (tip into a high bucket in the morning).
I used to keep a permanent poster tube under the bed just to save on disturbed sleep.

Good luck.

I don’t have peanut butter but I have found that they like peas so I will get some from the freezer.
I am not doing this alone but my GD and her BF are on a half day today so we shall tackle it together
I do want to get it before Molly does, she will be locked in another room.

Poor thing will be hungry now. I’d put a dollop of crunchy peanut butter on the floor and sit patiently on the bed with a lightweight towel. As it’s eating, throw the cloth over it and scoop it up.

Has worked a few times over the years.

Molly has always been a hunter, we have tried collars with bells on but she manages to lose them in a few days.

About 3am this morning when I had had about 2 hours sleep I woke to something moving in my bed.
I switched the lamp on, threw the duvet off and there sitting on my leg was the sweetest little mouse.
It wasn’t half as surprised as I was and I made a quick move and it jumped off and scooted under the bed, a divan base so lost to sight.
I pulled a pillow off my bed, got a spare duvet from the bottom of the wardrobe and came downstairs where I spent the rest of the night on the sofa.
It is very comfortable and I did eventually fall asleep.

The problem now is to somehow get it out.
My bedroom is very cluttered sadly, it is a storeroom for lots of stuff that can’t go in the loft.
In the last five days Molly has brought in 4 mice, the other three being dead.
She just loves to bring me presents.
I have told her she is being rehomed , she just yawned as usual.
