A huge march against the Far Right

Yesterday we had a massive march believed to be 500.000 people in London against the Far Right and not a word on here, vey little on the news and way way down towards the bottom on the BBC news page
I ve put this in chat as I m not looking for hard politics or arguments but I m proud of the people marching against the rise of the far right, against the division and hatred that is currently being spewed out by Farage and friends
Well done London and all the people who travelled to give out a message of togetherness, of kindness, of inclusion.

Spot on!

Tolerance, empathy, understanding, compassion, respect, love.

It’s really not that hard to understand thanks

It is by terrorists.

Ah, what a day. You just will not let go will you?

Sad really.

Why should Oreo ‘let go’ when she is simply pointing out truths?

She's not pointing out truths. She's expressing opinions (which you evidently share).

IMO it's beyond sadness. Unfortunately, people with negative views are gaining traction. I spent my whole life trying to be tolerant of people with different views, but I've now come to the conclusion that there are circumstances when it's not right to be tolerant of intolerance.

Doodledog you are preaching to the converted on here.

Unfortunately those who wish harm on Westerners and carry out acts of terrorism are not interested in live and let live

So, so true.

Cossy Sun 29-Mar-26 18:46:05

Oreo I wouldn’t describe Farage, Yaxley etc as terrorists, yet in their own way they are just as dangerous and yet they have no indoctrinated ideology, just a desire to be divisive and power hungry and full of bitterness and hatred.

They need to take some time by out and take one of my magic pills 🤣🤣🤣 🧙

I think most ordinary citizens, wherever they live in the world, just want peace and to get on with their lives, looking after their families, caring for others.

Some do not, they are the ones that rise to the top unfortunately, and become despots and dictators, warmongers, terrorists. They have a need to dominate and overpower others.

I completely agree, that is probably the root of the anxiety about the way our society is headed. The vast majority of Iranians probably just want the same, but the extremists seized control.

Yes Oreo and it seems more entrenched than I remember.

500,000 march to oppose the "Far Right" yet the party gaining most votes is right wing Reform maybe that shows how far out of touch Londoners are.

It actually isn't 'gaining most votes', David. Or was 4,000 majority for the Greens in the G & D bye election an illusion?

In fact, its support seems to be plateauing, if not actually falling.

What is happening is that the centre/centre left parties have more support in total but its spread between 3 parties and the nationalist parties. The UK is no more 'far right' over all than is the US.

If anyone is out of touch perhaps it is you?

But rights clash, as we know, so it isnt as simple as that, is it persecution to show a caricature of a religious leader, is it persecution to say no you aren't a woman, etc etc. Many would see both of those examples as a form of persecution.

Doodledog Sun 29-Mar-26 18:26:29

Galaxy

But what does that even mean, live and let live. Some rights clash with others, it is very difficult to live and let live in those cases.

It means living one's own life (the 'live' bit) and allowing others to live theirs (the 'let live' bit) without persecuting, picking on or criticising everything they do or say, either because it is different, or because it seems like fun to put others down.

Obviously, all concerned must obey the law - I'm not advocating anarchy.

We, those on here, need to start our own Pollyanna thread!

We can have a special badge and just get on everyone else’s nerves, we can pop on our rose tinted specs, our cape of naivety, our big smiles, hug everyone and just generally be jolly and welcoming to all.

grin thanks

Cossy, I think we're joined at the hip! wink

Nearly everyone I know personally in real life also feels the same way.

I think we put up with a lot. We Brits tend not to make a fuss, even when issues affect us personally. However, enough is enough.

A few months ago, I had to go to a town which was festooned with UJ and England flags. It really intimidated me. I hated knowing that I was in a place full of people with values I abhor.

The flags didn't even look good. It was a grey, wet day and the flags were torn, bedraggled and dirty. They looked like the rubbish left over after a pop festival. How on earth does a site like that make anybody feel pride in their country?

It's time people who feel the same as us fight back, even if we're not natural fighters.

Hell yeah! flowers

That is a beautiful post, valdavi. I have read it a few times.
Yes, that's for me.

Agreed. It's for me, too.

And for pretty much everyone I know, and 100% of the people I choose to mix with. We may be naive, Pollyanna types, but we are the majority in the UK, I'm sure.

I would like there to be a flag of Tolerance. Not related to a land mass or borders. Not connected to citizenship or 'right to remain'. Nothing to do with politics, skin tone or religion. Just a belief in equality and a desire to live and let live.

I would happily march under that flag, and live where people hung it from lampposts.

Well, I sometimes wonder why we have borders 🤔
