This comprises hundreds of organisations including Friends of the Earth, the TUC, Stand up to Racism, UNISON, Care4Calais, GMB, Greenpeace, Amnesty, the BMA, CND, Equity, FuelPovertyAction, Musicians’ Union, the NUM, NASUWT, Oxfam, RCM, RCN, USDAW and many, many others, large and small, including Jewish groups.

Not sure waving the Iranian flag, a country which routinely murders its citizens for being gay, has an appalling history of violence against women and has murdered tens of thousands of its young people for having the audacity to march earlier this year is a huge march for peace 🤷‍♀️

It was the flag of the former Shah. The difference is the lion rather than some symbol in the centre stripe.

My GS has two Iranian friends who live here in the UK. Their parents are hated in Iran for leaving.
Are these two young men bad people because they are Iranian?
They may have supported the march on behalf of ordinary people and friends back in Iran Oreo.

I get your point BUT, huge but, it’s the Iranian people who are being supported, not the regime or govt.

People say exactly the same thing if anyone dares hold a Palestine flag.

These, in the main, are just normal average people drawn from many different groups and organisations marching in support of normal average people throughout the world.

I have zero issue with it.

Get used so often by those of differing opinions that they are becoming if not already have become meaningless soundbites

….and they certainly weren’t all ‘good people’ on that march either.

I am also mindful of these people’s

right to march and openly express their opinions

Which they wouldn’t be able to do in the country of the flag they are waving…

Thanks for starting this thread BlueBelle. It’s good to see the majority posting agree it’s a sign of hope that good people march against the far right.

What Far Right would that be? If you’re talking of Trump then that’s up to the American voters next time around.Here in the UK there is no Far Right in power and it’s not likely there will be.

Yes we would all want a degree of compromise, negotiation and seeking peace if at all possible and defence when it’s needed….it’s what the UK does anyway.
The world has always been at war with its neighbours which suggests it’s part of the human condition and countries are so wide ranging in their aims and ambitions and cultures that there will never be peace for everyone, it’s impossible and it is naive to think so.
We may wish our lives were possible for all mankind but at the same time realise that it isn’t and that marches ( especially marches with many disparate aims) will achieve nothing.

The level of naivety on here is astounding at times.

How do you know people are naive? We are generally older and therefore have been around the block a few times. We may be parents, grandparents, professionals, retired.

We are not naive fools who support terrorism.

There’s no far right government here and never likely to be so marching isn’t just a waste of time but pointless.

In your opinion.

If you don’t like it, scroll on by, if you have no underlying fear that people like Farage, Yaxley and their rent-a-mobs are divisive, then that’s fine.

Please don’t simply dismiss and denigrate others who feel differently.

It’s not just this country, there are protests worldwide, some of us care deeply about our own country, our own citizens (of all colours/faiths) and those in other countries.

It doesn’t mean we support terrorism, or violence against those whose opinions differ from ours, it means that we genuinely believe in the art of compromise, negotiations, seeking peace whenever and wherever possible and if this all fails, last case scenario is defence when attacked.

We are fortunate, so very fortunate, that by a sheer accident of birth, we don’t have a daily fight every day of our lives, to get clean water, food for our children, vaccines, avoiding bombs, speaking up, etc etc

We have so much to be grateful for and simply wish the for the same for all mankind!

Solidarity, I would imagine.

I wish our flags hadn’t been “hijacked” I still them as representing our country and see many flying in windows and on cars during international sporting events.

If people hadn’t hung our flags everywhere, blinding following Farage and crew, then I have no doubt these people marching would have happily marched proudly waving our flag, along with others.

Unlike some, these marches believe in equality for all, love for all, hope for all, that includes all of us as well as our foreign brothers and sisters.

The bottom line is people are coming together for peace, to remind us we are all the same underneath.

They represent many people’s views, ethos and beliefs, including mine, that we must never lose hope.

Hope in peace, hope in humanity, hope that one day those in charge will discover war serves no purpose other than lining other despots purses, it shows ordinary people simply wanting to live their own lives and protect those lives of those they know and live, but also those who they don’t know.

You may feel it’s all pointless, but along with many many others I don’t 🥀🥀
