Probably originates as a pagan fertility symbol. People once recognised that the fertility of plants, animals, and women enables life to continue.

I agree Caleo, and quite honestly I am swayed by that idea.

Any ethic or myth that tends to support life on Earth has my vote !

PS, it is a pity that Easter is all so commercialised. Even more of a pity is that so few people understand how commercialised it is----or even what commercialised means.

Easter is frankly no more commercialised than Christmas.

I’m not particularly religious, but we do celebrate both Christmas and Easter, our children were told the true origins and are fully aware of the Christian ideals of Christmas and Easter.

But then again, who doesn’t love a Christmas feast, the little children’s faces when they see “Father Christmas” came, and as for Easter Eggs, every year I used to hide eggs all around our house and all with rhyming clues and it have us both so much pleasure to see our youngest three tuning around the house and trying to solve my clues! Who doesn’t like a hot cross bun with a hot cup of tea?

Bah humbug!

The name Easter is allegedly from Eostre, the pagan goddess of spring and fertility.

I didn't know that Allira also oestrogen maybe, I do find the derivation of words interesting.
