Good news! Hypnosis success

Looking online I've found several Hypnotherapy courses. Looks like its an expanding area. Most of them seem to be accredited and sound.

That is good to hear Aveline. I’m really pleased for your son. It is a worry when they smoke.
I saw a hypnotist, not for smoking, and at the third session he told me he wouldn’t be seeing me again. It didn’t work for me at all. I think it was doomed to failure when during hypnosis he took me to a ‘safe place’ in a garden and talked about the flowers. Not being a gardener I didn’t have the faintest idea what he was referring to.

It's such an odd thing to do. I wonder how people become hypnotists? Are there courses? I suppose it's something people just fall into. Not a career option that occurred to me!

I did a course as part of my CPD while a mental health practitioner. I had benefited from it myself earlier in life when I had a phobia.

Why isn't the NHS on to this? Smoking is such a major cause of ill health.

I had hypnotherapy 23 years ago to stop smoking and it is the best thing I have ever done.

That's great Stillearning. Hypnosis is a very strange thing. Nicotine is a powerful addiction and the chemicals affect physical as well as mental health. I'm hoping DS will be feeling much better physically now and may even put on weight.

My sister in law smoked all her life, even during labour😳. She is now 85 and having developed pains in her legs a few years ago was told she had to stop smoking or face possible surgery.
She told no one but went for hypnotherapy and just stopped, with no obvious difficulty.

I was totally phobic about flying and never did so, travelling all over Europe by car, bus and rail. When my husband began to suffer from dementia that became impossible so I tried hypnosis. Like Aveline I found the man rather strange and instantly decided it wasn’t going to work but decided that since I was there I would go ahead.
Total success, years later it is still effective.

DS said he was a strange man and didn't fancy having to see him in his house but it was OK.
Maybe you could try again BlueBelle? It might depend on finding the right person. DS was referred to him by someone who really knows DS and the best approach to him. Also, stopping smoking is a very clear cut yes/no. It sounds like your issue might have been more complex.

It was my DS not my husband. DS said he was apprehensive but was absolutely 'out of it' and when he came round he couldn't even imagine smoking. His actual words were, 'Its like something my brain switched off'. He's still not smoking.

My mother was part of a hypnosis for childbirth study.
She was very impressed with it and says she was able to self-hypnotise when I was born.

I wished later that I'd talked to her about it more as this seems to me to be a way to deeply relax during labour.

Great news. Have never considered hypnosis as an option, am a bit nervous about it all tbh, how did your your DH feel Aveline? Was he nervous at all?

I ve had hypnosis twice ( I don’t smoke but it was for something else) complete failure I could not ‘go anywhere’ I was unconsciously listening to the people walking past, thinking what they were wearing and where they were going, my mind could not seemingly go blank, I couldn’t lose myself in any way.
Presumably, me that failed, not him , are there some people who just can’t be hypnotised ?

This was a GP who had trained to be a hypnotherapist as well as a doctor, so not a charlatan

I used to know a hypnotherapist. He never hypnotised me but he was very could at calming me down if I was stressed. He. told me he could hypnotise himself for things like dental treatment.

My friend had hypnotherapy to give up smoking and it worked. After a bad period of stress about 5 years later she started again but had just one session of hypnosis and has never smoked since.

I tried it for something else but unfortunately I am one of those people who are resistant to it so it didn't work for me.

I had hypnotherapy to tackle fear of flying, total success, still works 5 years later.

My husband was hypnotised to stop smoking when he was 25. He was put under with a group of others to Stranger on the Shore” by Aker Bilk. He has never smoked since or wanted to and is now 70

A neighbour who knew of this chap and recommended him. All word of mouth. DS was a bit concerned but the hypnotist man was strange but extremely effective.
