God bless the plumber! We have hot water, after over a week without!

Still no heating - warm air unit that had died will be a little while yet, so just as well the weather has warmed up.

We actually spent a night at a Premier Inn last Sunday, largely for the sake of a lovely hot shower! But were also joining dd2 and her chap who were away for the weekend on the coast. Weather was fantastic!

Have you invited the plumber to stay with you? He would be so useful. A week is a long time without. You appreciate it for a short while and then forget until the next disaster.

Thank goodness! But it is chillier today.

God bless all tradesmen I say!
Where will we be when all those now coming up to retirement age stop working?
Do we have enough young lads doing apprenticeships to fill the gap ?
I don’t think we do, especially as apparently there are now universities offering degrees which don’t require A levels.

Yes!
They all seem young to me but, of course, the tradespeople I know are in their late 40s and 50s.

Whitsend sorry you are still chilly We have no problem with out heating system. BUT husband in his wisdom recons we should save the oil in case there is non next winter We do have a stove in the kitchen/ living room but the heat goes nowhere in a good sized stone built Victorian house. Please don’t suggest I don’t comply more than it’s worth

Glad you got a shower at the Premier Inn. I hope you didn't need anything else. The last time we were there the lift was out of order and the restaurant was closed.

God bless all working tradesmen.

Touch wood, we’ve stayed at many P Inns, have always found them reliably good.

To me it seems likely that a Victorian house has more than one chimney. The one I grew up in had seven rooms each with a fireplace, which as there were two storeys meant four chimneys.

So how about having at least one more wood-burner installed during the summer. Hope your DH is good with a chainsaw and that you have some trees in the garden that need branches lopped, thus giving you wood for next winter. It has to dry, so you will need to buy for the coming winter.

Only this afternoon in a wider family discussion about the creeping takeover of AI in our lives my DH said that plumbers will be the last workers to be replaced so maybe we should all be persuading our grandchildren to think carefully about their choice of career and training because many of those graduating in the next decade won't actually have a job for which they've been qualified.

What is a plumber. I have been trying to find one for the last three months. We did have one, but it took him over 4 months to install our central heating, so I didn't ask him to replace our existing bathroom as it contains the only loo in the house and I had a vision of him taking the loo out one day and not installing its replacement for another month.
