What gets you up in the morning?
For me, it’s the cat, mithering even if she doesn’t want anything.
For my mother, it was the thought of tea and toast.

We're morning people, dog needs walk - we pop out of bed.

To make sure I’m still alive!
Painkillers
Then shops.

1) My bladder
2) Needing a cup of tea
3) Feeling so very guilty if I don’t get up and get on.

There always seems to be something - the postman, the cleaner, next door's builders starting at 8.00am, someone coming here to start doing something at 8.00am, a clinic appointment, a Sainsbury's delivery - I never seem to get a lie in these days, and as my sleep is so broken I would love to. 😡

It only gets dirty again FGT so why bother...😂😂

My DiLs reply to her mother when she was told her dusting left a lot to be desired. 😀

1-Needing a wee!

2-Two Ann Forshaw yoghurts with a glass of unsweetened Alpro milk!

3-Work!

Mithering. There's a word I haven't heard since my Mum died. She was a Lancashire lass and often used it. Thanks for the memory.

Mind you, compared to the late Princess Margaret, I’m playing at the game! She was on an altogether different level of (sloth) relaxation. 😁

I usually wake around 5.30am and know that I may as well get up as I would never get back to sleep. No way could I go back once I have been up. Shower and coffee by 6.
I like to get stuff done first thing, be it in the house or in the garden. Especially when it's warmer weather.

Technically I’m not ‘up’ yet as I’ve spent the last 2 hours drinking two mugs of TIB, then eating a bowl of Weetabix, a quick look at the newspapers, enjoying a phone call from eldest daughter and then the rest of the time looking at GN.

I need to vacuum through and mop the floors …. Hmm.

So obviously the thought of housework doesn’t motivate movement. 😂
Trouble is it doesn’t fuss me enough.

Usually bladder!

Once I'm awake and out of bed I can't go back though, unless it's ridiculously early. For some reason I don't enjoy tea in bed in the morning

tanith Fri 17-Apr-26 09:52:21

Bathroom then a cuppa

Casdon Fri 17-Apr-26 09:29:30

The dog’s bladder. He has a fine line in howling. It was 6.15 this morning.

NotSpaghetti Fri 17-Apr-26 09:12:05

I hate both getting up and going to bed.
I suppose, eventually, it's the feeling that I "ought to get on".
I could happily read in the morning for hours.

I am NOT a "morning person" - even if I'm wide awake.

Bladder then dogs, then cuppa tea back in bed!

Ashcombe Fri 17-Apr-26 08:47:22

Wanting TIB, which takes me back to bed!

Georgesgran Fri 17-Apr-26 08:46:36

Bladder! 😁

petra Fri 17-Apr-26 08:46:02

The first thing is my bladder 😂
The second is I don’t / won’t waste the day.
