Morning Mick, morning All from a cloudy corner of Somerset.

A dry day forecast which will be excellent for laundry drying. Towels today. Very little sleep so a generally quiet day I think.

Best wishes to all, have the best day you can.

Gelisajams Tue 21-Apr-26 07:42:16

Good morning Mick and all from a mild calm Morecambe Bay where today promises to be warm and sunny. Not that the weather here will affect me as we are off to a campsite at Slatterford on our way to Burnham on Sea where we are meeting a friend. Her DH died in February, so I promised her we would head down as soon as the weather improved.
En route today we will call at a little village where my great grandparents lived before they relocated to Manchester. I’m hoping their cottage is still there. I have photos of it taken in the 1940s.
I have been up a while this morning and have made and cooked a cheese and mushroom flan and some soup to take with us. I should have done it yesterday but the day disappeared under a pile of other tasks. The good news yesterday was DS has had his mortgage approved. I’m very relieved but DS is to quote him ‘scared’. The first mortgage application was rejected on affordability, but the second rejection was on the valuation which didn’t make any sense at all. However third time lucky. So at least I can relax for a couple of days before we start the next step of getting insurances etc.
Thinking of all with worries and health problems. Take care.

Good morning from Leicestershire. We haven’t had kitty’s rain yet but it looks ominous up the hill.

Not much planned today so shall do some dead heading in the garden.
I ordered some socks from T.K.Maxx so if they come in I will pop down.

Wishing everyone a good day!

Morning from high cloud in S Hants, 5, yesterday the sun gave way to cloud late afternoon, voluntary phone was averagely busy.
MrJ is pricing a small job this morning and playing bowls early evening, I’ll go for a local walk, need to sort a couple of birthday cards and decide on dinner.

Good morning from a sunny Suffolk with,I suspect,a chilly wind. I’m meeting one of my closest friend for a walk and lunch at the coast where we normally buy fish and chips( pensioners’ specials) and walk a few yards from the shop to a seat overlooking the sea.

If there is a chilly wind there we may rethink our plan. There are several indoor places along the coast we can walk to,including a well known pub,so plenty of choice.

Our get togethers always last at least 3 hours and include lots of laughter as well as serious discussions….a real tonic for both of us.

Hope all have a good day whatever your plans are for how you intend to spend it.

Good morning everyone from another bright and sunny 🌞 day in Northampton.

Thank you for all the birthday wishes for yesterday; not wishing to spend the day alone indoors I took myself out for lunch. Imagine the surprise I had when after my main course, staff appeared.with a cake and candle!🎂

And then yesterday evening a neighbour turned up at my door with a bottle of wine which we proceeded to drink half of 🍷🍷!

Not sure about today - I have so many outstanding jobs to do about the house I am not sure what to start with! I will probably end up doing none of them....
I hope to join my walking group this afternoon.

Wishing all a pleasant Tuesday.

Good morning from a dry NE with a forecast of sunshine all day.
Yesterday was a strange day, got up early but mid morning had to lie down and I slept for another two hours. Heated some soup for lunch and then fell asleep again on the sofa. I was cross because I thought I wouldn't sleep last night but I did.
My sister is going to visit me today, at 85 she is way more mobile than I am.
Have a good day.

Good morning Mick and everyone from cloudy Carlisle where it's trying to brighten up.
I was busy all day up and down stairs dealing with various little sorting jobs. I was pleasantly interrupted by a call from DS2 in Sydney. Now he's getting older, it's rather amusing that we have common cause in chatting about our ailments!
Speaking of which, I had a call from the osteoporosis nurse about our forthcoming appointment. I have been doing my research and I suspect there may be battles ahead....the professionals will try to insist I take drugs with very unpleasant side effects and I'm probably going to refuse. We'll see...

One nice thing...I glanced out of my kitchen window and saw a goldfinch drinking from my birdbath, then he flitted around pecking at this and that, a very handsome fellow he was too and the first goldfinch I've seen in this garden. Hopefully, he'll be back.

Today, more pottering. There are things I need to do but I'm feeling mental paralysis, possibly more caffeine may help, I've been somewhat awake since around 4.30 but rarely get up before six.

Do have a pleasant day everyone if you can.

Grammaretto Tue 21-Apr-26 08:06:39

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
It's very quiet here but no sign of sunshine yet.

Yesterday I sat in our local café with my friend who has dementia while her DH dealt with roofers. etc. We were joined at our table by a couple of ladies from my exercise class. I wonder if they noticed our bizarre conversation!

I had a long chat with DSiL yesterday and really felt her grief.

The rest of the day I attempted to move boxes around. My equivalent of moving dust
I did one tip run which included a large number of Baker's shortbread moulds. One of the men at the recycling centre said his DD made shortbread so he would take them.
More of the same today.

What a messy end to your WI gMattie. Appalling behaviour.
I believe something similar happened to the local group here who meet as usual but without paying the WI for national membership.

I hope all those with struggles have a better day today.

Good morning and it’s bright and sunny here in Essex. This chilly wind has been with us now for weeks.

Yesterday’s coffee and chat with GrannyGravy was lovely. We then shopped in M and S and kept bumping into each other.,
Sar hope you can join us next time 🤞.

Today Dd will pop in for coffee after school drop off. We’ll walk the dog over The Mount and enjoy the peace and beauty. So good for the soul.

Bridge Club this afternoon.Dh says he doesn’t need a babysitter. I’ll phone him to check in. (Not that he ever answers his phone).,😡.

GM I can’t believe how the WI federation have treated you. Anyway, carry on and enjoy your ‘new’ club and forget the miseries.

I hope Madeleine is ok. Not like her to stop posting.🤔. I miss her daily diary.
Pantglas too.

I hope you all have a good day 🌺

Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 7°C.

What an unpleasant and sad. business for everyone, involved, GM.

Life continues to be problematic, DH's BP remains critically high. Our surgery is in chaos at the moment, due to a changeover in IT systems.
Yesterday, I literally had to beg for my repeat prescriptions. The online system and prescription lines have been suspended.
You must go in person. Our surgery is a twenty minute drive
/ two bus rides away.away.

We had Mass in our parish Hall, for the first time yesterday, it was as busy as Sunday Mass,
The P.P welcomed everyone and said he couldn't have done it, without myself and the young sacristan (my adopted boy.)
He said, that he was done (exhausted), then pointed to me, slumped in a chair, at the back and said; I think MD is too! 😄

I had been so exhausted on Sunday, that I had to leave a table in the church,
The church is now fenced off, but I spotted the site agent, and played the helpless old lady card. He kindly offered to go in and get it, because it is now a hard hat area. I also joked with the workment that they had fenced off my personal parking space. They laughingly gave me permission to park beside the fence.😉
I could hardly walk yesterday. My feet and legs are so painful. I have taken the skin off my toes, they are a tad painful,
I had planned to sneak away after Mass, but the Chief Sacristan never turned up, not a word. So I had to clear up after Mass. We do not know what games, he is playing, but I am extremely annoyed, that he has not lifted a finger.. 🤬

I had washed all the surplice, but they were still damp and my tumble dryer is still broken. I sneaked into the parish house and borrowed the one there. It meant I didn't have to iron all ten of those voluminous items. I had nothing left to give

I wasn't planning to go to Mass today, but I need to sneak into the sacristy, by going through the parish house, to retrieve foam to make kneeler. The ones we have are far too big for the new sanctuary,,
I shall disguise myself in a hard hat and high viz vest.😄

I wish you all a pleasant day and best wishes to all, who are struggling,
I am about to check DH's BP. It is all so stressful. I just want it to come down. I am afraid, he will have a stroke 😪

GrannyGravy13 Tue 21-Apr-26 08:14:12

kittylester my cleaning fairies put up their price by £4 an hour from 1st April.

Good ones are like gold dust locally, lots of not so good ones advertising on local nextdoor site.

GrannyIvy Tue 21-Apr-26 08:20:59

Good morning from Cambridgeshire where it should reach a high of 14 degrees later but still that chilly wind is around.

No plans today really just at home pottering house and garden and collect the little ones from school later on. They argue and fight lots at mo so try to keep them separated!

Yesterday we did a lovely walk taking our binoculars to bird watch, heard the cuckoo and a fellow bird watcher pointed us in the direction of where a nightingale was. There were so many swans and Canadian geese and we saw a deer swimming in the river. It was all very tranquil.

Whiteswan 💐
Wondering how Madeleine is hoping she is ok. Pantglas and others are missing too.

Hope everyone has a good day 🌷

Good morning from Stockport, another bright start to the day.

My life is suddenly getting busy after being very quiet, I don’t know if I can keep it up.Yesterday my friend rang to say she was going to Matalan for something after lunch, did I want to tag along?
I didn’t say no so off we went and of course I didn’t leave empty handed.
A new cushion, I shall now get another the same, some more food containers and a blouse.
We then went to M&S Simply Food where once again I came out with a bag full of “necessities”.

Today I am picking up my new reading glasses then another friend is picking me up and we are going out for lunch.
All this socialising is so good for me but tiring so I will see how I go.
I am mindful that I am lucky at my age to be fit enough to do it as so many would like the chance.

Thought as always with the unwell and their carers.

Stansgran Tue 21-Apr-26 08:42:53

Good morning from Durham City. Blue patches in the sky which is hopeful. I have to take DH to have an eye injection this afternoon and as there is an Age Charity warehouse nearby I’m going to gather as much as I can to take with me. I have a pile of paper carrier bags, sturdy ones , and wonder if they would be interested.

This one quoted £75 for upstairs and the same for downstairs, alternate weeks. We don't live in a mansion.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 21-Apr-26 09:06:27

Ooh that’s rather pricey

Usedtobeblonde Tue 21-Apr-26 09:20:05

My GD and her BF are house hunting and when they leave I shall be looking for a cleaner again.
When I last had one a few years ago I was paying £17:50 an hour, she really wasn’t very good though.
It looks as if I am going to recalculate the cost, I am out of touch.

aggie Tue 21-Apr-26 09:20:54

Good morning from Co Armagh, thhe sun is playing hide and seek ! I haven’t been out yet
Yesterday was lovely when out of the East wind.
I haven’t been been given a lot of tomato plants , so I’ve left them in the Greenhouse for now , it’s beyond me to plant them up , I did manage it last year ☹️
MD we used to have a sacristan like yours , now I’ve no idea who is in the job , it seems to be a few ladies sharing nicely
I hope all the poorly improve and the carers get a breather 💐

aggie Tue 21-Apr-26 09:22:20

My cleaner comes weekly , two bed bungalow £ 30..

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 21-Apr-26 09:25:56

Morning all from a bright West Oxfordshire.

Yesterday was busy what with blood tests, Waitrose shopping and popping into Boots for some drops for my sore eyes - they are still sore this morning and I seem full of cold. Hay fever? The cleaner came yesterday and our gardener is due today.

I should be having a chat with my brother in Australia later. We usually talk every week but as my birthday approaches he is going to ring more often to make up for not sending me a present!

I will be seeing friends this afternoon and will take a rhubarb and strawberry cake for us. It’s a new recipe so hope they like it.

Sorry about the WI shenanigans GM! We are with Oxfordshire Federation and I haven’t heard of any bad feeling.

Have a good day.

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 21-Apr-26 09:26:53

Cleaners - we pay our lady £40 for two hours and she’s very good.

kittylester Tue 21-Apr-26 09:28:45

Ooh that’s rather pricey

I suspect she didn't fancy the job.

My last was £32 a week. She became very slap dash. We expect to pay more just not that much more!

RosesandLilac Tue 21-Apr-26 09:31:56

Good morning everyone from cloudy and chilly south Glos (serves me right for swopping over my summer clothes yesterday 🙄). I did fill nearly 3 big black bags with things for the charity collection tomorrow; I’ve adopted the ‘If it doesn’t give joy it goes’ attitude 😁
I also emailed and left messages at the hospital desperately trying to spread things up, it’s getting ridiculous that 8 weeks after diagnosis I haven’t even had a biopsy or oncology appointment, let alone started treatment. I genuinely have no idea was the 2 weeks after diagnosis Cancer Pathway refers to!
The window cleaner has been, I now need to do the insides, so has my Ocado shop - for some peculiar reason I have 2 pizzas not one and a large melon that I didn’t order 🤷🏼‍♀️. They haven’t charged for either.
My lovely friend is coming for coffee later, bigger dog is out with the dog walker, I’ve vacuumed and dusted and the kitchen and bathroom are cleaned.
Washing is in the machine and I am knackered!
I hope that the missing ones on here are okay and that today goes well for you all x
🌹

Good morning from Sunnyside sandhills northwest coast.
Long FaceTime with DD in the south yesterday discussing a problematic solicitor’s bill backdated to 2018, we think by mistake. I do find these financial things worrying. She has a better business head than I have and she’s a real boon for me.

Music club today and I haven’t finally decided on my songs, feeling rather uninterested, unlike me, but I’d better get the rusty vocal cords going.

I too hope madeleine is ok and thoughts to all🌺
