There Goes Denby Pottery

Our family have had Denby table wear since the 60s, Manor Green, Homestead Brown, Chevron and Gypsy we’re owned by parents and Aunts.
We have Greenwhich and Intro. I bought them in sets of 8 with tea pots and jugs. I don’t think I’ll need to ever buy any more.

Here is a petition asking the Government to support the British ceramics industry (not just Denby Pottery).

I love my Denby Greystone. When I first saw it we were short of money so could only afford a couple of plates or a dish in the sale. It is always on display but normally only used for special occasions but the large dinner plates were used every day. I was cleaning the cupboard out and was foolish enough to pick up all the plates together and they smashed onto our stone floor I was mortified. It had been discontinued years back so they couldn't be replaced. They were made really well.

I also have Denby Metz and Imperial they are used daily and have been for decades. They are very hardwearing and I still look out for pieces in the charity shops.

It’s very sad the stuff produced nowadays will not last like Denby.

We've still got Denby and use it every day. The darn stuff is 50+ years old and refuses to break. No wonder they've gone out of business. Very, very sad though.

I love Denby. We have always had Denby for our tableware.

That’s sad - another of England’s finest bites the dust. The only piece of Denby I’ve ever owned is the brown glazed coffee pot that my mother used to brew my father’s coffee in (no-one else was allowed coffee!!). I now use it as a flower jug - it looks wonderful with daffs or tulips in it.

Oh no! I had a Denby as my "best" dinner service when I got married. I eventually sold it, and have regretted it ever since.

That's a big loss to the industry. Shame.

I read some of the space has been taken by local ceramicists and potters who will carry on the tradition albeit on a smaller and more artisan scale.
