🎉 Happy Birthday Gransnet! 🎉
I joined after hearing on the radio about the search for GreatNan. 💐 It made Gransnet sound like a proper community.
Where would we be without humour?

It’s 15 years ago today that Gransnet went ‘live’.
🎉 Happy Birthday Gransnet! 🎉
I joined after hearing on the radio about the search for GreatNan. 💐 It made Gransnet sound like a proper community.
Happy Birthday Gransnet. I joined about 11 years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed most of it. Does anyone remember the Garden Shed that someone (Kitty?) hid in just after Christmas Day one year when she’d had enough of the social scene inside and we all gradually joined in? I’ve been to some meet ups and made some good friends but we in the south never seemed to manage the numbers that the more northern groups did.
Happy birthday Gransnet!
I can't remember how I found out about it but joined after a very dear friend died and thought it would be supportive and cheerful 🙂
Yes, it can be but I remember being jumped on for nothing in particular when I first joined and retreated, then rejoined.
Let's hope GN doesn't change with new owners.
I remember one poster who shall remain nameless but no longer posts - unless under another name - who was very creepy. She was trying to track down exactly where I lived using clues from my posts, even going to extent of posting photos of nearby landmarks - weird!! I felt slightly harassed by it.
But I find gransnet now a great support and full of kind and interesting people - with whom I do not always agree! So well done the Gransnet team!
I joined in 2015.I have had amazing support through a few difficult titans made some lovely virtual friends along the way.
Been some sad losses too.
Happy birthday GN. I can't remember when I joined. It's been a long time though. On the whole it's been a great forum - very helpful and supportive. I loved the Blogs thread. Not to speak ill of the dead, but I can't agree re jingl. I found some of her comments rude and hurtful.
Wow! I had no ideas it had been going so long. I think I only found out about it in a press reference or maybe something on Womens Hour? I would have loved it in Covid!
It's just been 3.5 years for me.
Thank you gransnet, there have been times it has been crucial to any well-being.
I greatly appreciate that we are moderated.
Yes, mistakes are made, and people get cross, but on the whole it has kept us safe from the worst of SM
I think most people found Greatnan scary, Kitty. She was certainly our “Head Girl” back then. But the oddest thing is that I had not been on here very long when I received, out of the blue, a PM from her where she had been most put out by hurtful remarks another poster had made to her. I thought, crikey, why me? I sent a platitudinous response and never heard from her again. I’ve been left wondering ever since whether it had been meant for someone else😂!
I joined at the start of Covid. It was connection with other people when we were so isolated that kept me here. I have had three different user names in that time. I struggled with one particular poster about 3 or four years ago, said my piece and signed out. Why I didn’t just stop scrolling I do not know! Anyway I know better now and enjoy dipping in and out. The Good Morning thread has and continues to support me every day. It’s the first chat I look at when I wake up. So thank you to all the contributors 🎂
Happy Birthday Gransnet
It is a part of so many people’s lives and is a treasure chest of experienced advice, a place to find companionship and good solid advice.
I hope it lasts another 15 years.
🎂 🥂 🥳
Sorry peoples' lives.
Happy birthday, Gransnet!
May 2011! I've only been here a few months.
To all the admins, etc., thanks a bunch and long may you reign!
A few years ago I had a peep and posted a few comments which drew a lot of put downs, wrong footing and deliberate misinterpretation of what I posted. There was one particularly vituperative poster who everyone seem to love. I decided GN was not for me and left it for a year or so.
When I tried again it seemed that generally the posters were kinder to each other. There are still spats and arguments but the routine put downs etc from established GNs seem to have gone.
Anyway Happy Birthday Gransnet.
You have improved so many people's lives in so many ways. Whether it is just a tasty recipe, useful information, a shared interest or problem, a debating platform or people to talk things over with and vent your feelings to and more.
Love to all.
There was another similar website around at the time - grannynet? Anyone remember this?
I joined around 2013, I think. Came off for a short while but rejoined because I missed not contributing 😁.
Me too, WWM2. She was spiky byt that was just who she was.
Greatnan was scary. She told me off quite severely the very first time I dared start a thread.
I loved jing RIP.
I loved her spiky-ness. Her bike. I remember her polishing her staircase, her glorious sense of humour. The roast chicken (not that anyone uses it now) is thanks to jing

Wow! Some of you have been here a long time! I guess it was thanks to your involvement that the GN actually got off the ground and became successful.
Has it changed much in that time?
🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈
has it changed much in that time
Absolutely 😂
I was here at the beginning. After reading some of the posts I didn’t think I would stay.
I’m sure most of the original members remember Jingles ( how could you not) I had an online run in with her in the first week.
Think I joined in around 2011, happy birthday Gransnet
15 years?!! Where did that time go?
I didn't realise GN was so young when I joined. My first GD is almost 15 and I joined just before she was born
I joined eleven years ago and have made some wonderful friendships on here, with people I have been privileged to meet in person, and those I have not but have immediately connected with. One of those I exchanged regular messages with, and did get to meet, sadly died last year and I miss her. We “had each other’s backs” when the going got tough both in virtual and in real life for such a long time.
Happy birthday, Gransnet. Long may it continue.
Happy Birthday GN I think on the whole a good addition to life and at times has proved helpful. I think I've been on here more or less since the inception. I was on MN when GN was being launched, I think it was suggested, there's a new site staring up for you old people, so hot foot over there for some of the older demographic on MN. I was only just the wrong side of mid 50s at the time, but thought
maybe they mean the likes of me
I love GN and had no idea that 'we' shared the same birthday
.
Happy Birthday 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I am a relative newbie found the site in May 9 years ago.
GN has definitely helped me over the years, through the COVID months (which felt like years)
I have also met GN members in real life, two who have become good pals, along with my bestie pen (email) friend.
I think we had fewer trolls back then and it didn't seem necessary to put 'light hearted' on a thread.
