sins and plenty of liquids. Sounds a good day, llfl !
Sins! I think I mean sunscreen!
Good morning from s somerset, baking hot again, it will be more than yesterday when it was 29.5 at 6pm
Going to the allotment at 6pm undid all my cool calm actions during the day. I had 2 litres of cold water in my fridge, best way to keep track of myself during this dangerous weather and even then I did not quite finish it. Oh of course I had not counted the first glass of water plus the gigantic mug of tea but the number of wees told me I needed all those drinks
GrandmaBatty Ahh thank you, I also enjoy your posts very much
I used to have two friends, old ladies, sisters who lived together. They were farmers wives and had all the life skills, very smart too and they downsized to an apartment near our town house. They sewed and yesterday I realised why they wore the same pattern blouse and skirt all the time, different fabrics and colours. I am going to copy them to some extent and yesterday wore a very cool, comfortable cotton poplin top with a simple A line linen/cotton skirt with easy fitting gathered waist. I was comfortable and my body was airy all day. The top was the Ashton top by Helens closet, short sleeves and short fit but very flattering on me
Last night I cut out another Ashton top, it only takes a little fabric and hardly any work. I will sew that today and put together another set, ready to wear when the weather is hot, when I need to wear something other than a kaftan. Itch to Stitch Seychelles is another very easy airy top and I already have two sets, ready to take out of my wardrobe
I feel as though I have been inspired by these ladies, I do love role models that help me to glide into older age.
Obviously today then will be adapted to the heat with water melon and salad, reading, sitting out until it becomes too hot in the shade and then sewing, the Ashton will take about an hour to sew this evening
All about me today, I am not going to think about both Dds doing their outdoor competitive stuff, one did hers yesterday and is still chirpy after 32 miles. The other starts with a sea swim at lunchtime. I daren`t think of them in this heat, they are fit adults.
Look after yourselves
Morning all from West Oxfordshire. It will reach 31 degrees later. We are planning a barbecue but I will find the heat difficult.
It was good to see our daughter yesterday. We had a great Sunday lunch which included the must delicious lemon and raspberry creme brûlée.
After lunch today OH will drive our daughter to the station for the train back to London. She has work tomorrow.
We were talking about hobbies. One of hers is her singing group but the main was is holidays! Sometimes on her own, sometimes with friends. Next week she is off on her own to Malaga for a week where she lived for three months before moving to Madrid for a year.
Have a good day everyone and don’t forget sins and plenty of liquids.
Thinking of the MDs and other missing posters.
Good morning all - another scorchio!
Lovely but short surprise visit from youngest D, SIL and the little boys yesterday for an hour en route to SIL’s parents..
The boys let off steam outside and then started playing shops and I am still finding Post-its around the house saying “Pay her(e)” or bearing drawings of mobile phones or keypads. How the world has changed!
So today I am giving up on outside and going to sit in a nice air-conditioned cinema to watch The Christophers, probably sipping something cool, to the disgust of my friend who hoped I would go National Trusting with her but honestly? BH traffic, roads, trekking round a garden in full sun?
No contest.
Wishing you all a pleasant day. ☀️
Good morning from Sheffield
We are back home having brought the weather back with us.
I like coming home just before a bank holiday as it gives me a day to reset. I certainly will be able to get my washing dry
It’s been a wonderful holiday and just what I needed, a good rest
I need to catch up with everyone’s news now.
Take care everyone
Good morning from a very warm corner of La Sarthe. Yesterday we spent much of the day outside apart from over lunchtime when the heat was too much, hitting 31deg C at its height!
DH did some strimming whilst I read my book in the shade. No doubt today will be more of the same.
How kind of your DD1 to make a video for you, Bellasnana! She has inherited your capacity for thoughtfulness.
I hope today’s news of your DGD is more heartening, Kittylester.
Recurring unpleasant dreams aren’t conducive to feeling rested, Grandmabatty so perhaps you can 💤 later.
Wishing everyone a good day, whether or not it’s a holiday. 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩
Good morning everyone from Morecambe Bay. It’s 14 degrees with a clear sky and should reach the high 20’s with a zero percentage chance of rain according to my most reliable weather app. Because of my work as a gardener I have several weather apps and they vary considerably. If they all agree then I can be confident of the days weather. It surprises me how different they can be.
An early walk in the woods which will be as shady as anywhere. The woods are now in full leaf so quite sheltered in the rain and shady in the heat. I was sad to see police notices yesterday warning about nest disturbance. In this day and age who collects birds eggs?
Not a lot else planned for today so maybe get our next camper trip planned. We have blanked off the dates in the diary and intend a road trip right down the east coast, but have no campsites booked as yet.
Thinking of all with worries and sadness.
Take care🌸.
Good morning, Michael and all GNs. It’s already warm in South Yorkshire and set to be in the low thirties by one o’clock.
Yesterday I cleaned my kitchen cabinets and tiles and then sat outside catching up on correspondence and reading. Then I was lured back up into the garden to finish off the weeding. I now have space to put in the new cosmos plants I bought on Friday.
I was thinking of getting on the bus and going to the Botanical Gardens today but it will be very hot and crowded so I’ll go another time when it will be quieter. A day pottering at home will fill the space. If I can stand the heat later, I’ll have a local walk.
Have the best day you can, folks.
Good morning from Malta where it is to be sunny and 31°C.
Thank you so much for the flowers and kind words yesterday.
The Mass was lovely and, by coincidence, was attended by the President of Malta whose grandson was making his First Holy Communion having missed being able to do it last week when his friends made theirs.
I had a quiet day but admit the tears flowed, especially as DD1 had put together a short but lovely video of DH playing with our children, pushing baby DS in his pram, etc. she’d set it to Barbra Streisand singing ‘The Way We Were’, so you can imagine. Lovely to see him alive though, so much better than a photo.
I had some good news from my niece who is expecting baby number 3. It will be grandchild number 6 for my late sister, sadly she never met any of them but she lives on in them.
I have got Milo dog for company today and unless we go very early he won’t be getting a walk as the pavements heat up too much for little paws.
Beautiful photos yesterday Greyduster, at first glance I thought they were paintings.
Sorry your DGD is so unwell Kittylester, no wonder you are worried. I hope all will be well.🙏🏻
Wishing a good day to all. Enjoy the ☀️😎 (or not🥵!)
Good morning from sunny South Lanarkshire.
A quiet, calm, relaxing day ahead, hopefully. I enjoyed sitting in the garden with my book yesterday and plan to do more of the same today.
Firstly though there’s laundry to be done and a Sainsbury’s delivery is due later this morning.
Wishing you all a good day.
Good morning Mick and all 🙋♀️
Is going to be warm and sunny here in S E Essex, and I have no plans other than reading on my lounger in the garden.
Enjoy your day folks 🙋♀️
Good morning from a bright Bristol. It’s “only” 15C here, but promising much higher temps later.
I was woken up by an alarm around 0320 and realised it had been caused by a power cut. Not normally sleeping well, im assumed I would stay awake, but I went back to sleep and have only just woken up.
Still no power despite the text telling me it had been restored, so l called national grid, who assured me it was back. I checked my fuse box. Duh! The cut had caused a fuse to go, all the lights and sockets…
I haven’t resorted to fans and frozen hot water bottles yet, facing north has its advantages. I do keep curtains and windows shut on the sunnier sides and my front door open for ventilation when I’m at home.
Yesterday was very quiet; it was too hot to go out, so I didn’t. I read and did a spot of cooking. I also managed to sort out my printer which had decided to chew up paper. #proudmattie.
Today, after a shop at Tesco (by car, yay!), I shall get organised for my little tea outside. Bank holidays can be very lonely so I have invited anyone on their own to come for tea, cake and chat this afternoon.
Enjoy this day off and the warmth. 🐦🔥 Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩❤️🦩
Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 13° and sunny. Rosesandlilac your vintage embroidery sounds intriguing.
Yesterday I did little apart from cleaning the windows and mirrors. I had a tesco delivery as well so the fridge and freezer are stocked up.
Last night I had some awful recurring dreams which upset me somewhat. Dd isnt working today so I don't have the boys. It isnt a school holiday here, so I will go to the library and tidy it up. Then home to do some weeding. We dont have the very high temperatures here, so some weeding will be fine. I'll roast a gammon and dinner will be gammon and chicken salad. Have a good day.
Good morning, it’s already 17° here on the hillside in south Glos , another very hot day forecast.
We’ll take the dogs out shortly and then spend the day indoors. Luckily the house stays pretty cool with the windows strategically opened depending on where the sun is. I have fans too.
I really don’t enjoy the heat one bit but I’m very lucky that it’s lovely inside. I will be finishing an embroidery and probably planning the next one! I might set up a half-finished vintage abstract piece I bought online, something very different! I need to get my floor stand assembled.
Take care everyone, I hope you enjoy the Bank Holiday x
🌹
