I'm unreasonably traumatised

What a dreadful experience, kittylester! So sorry to hear this.

I'm glad you're going through your insurance company. Some years ago, when a drunken driver crashed into our perimeter wall damaging the garden, the police attended and recommended we report it to our household insurance company for them to deal with the driver's motor insurer.

It took a while to be put right but it didn't cost us anything. Try not to worry too much (easy for me to say!) as it will all come right eventually.

Ouch, petra, that sounds awful.

I know how you feel.
Many years ago I was in a very very old house when a small lorry literally came through into the front room.
I hit a house myself, once.
Raining, going round a right hand bend driver coming towards me lost control on the bend. I instinctively turned left to avoid him and hit the house ( no front garden full on.

25ft! How terrifying! So glad no one was hurt, though. X

No wonder you're shaken and what a nightmare. I'm wondering if the driver is actually not insured hence why he suggested his mate fix your wall.

That is traumatic! I’m so glad no one was hurt, but my mind would be in overdrive imagining all the awful things that might have occurred.

So sorry about your wall too.

Hope you’re feeling less stressed now flowers

Thanknyiu all for being lovely.

I think I've misled you - the truck was one of those that plumbers/builders have not a haulage type one. The owner is a self employed odd job man.

We have taken photos and will go through our insurance. Our house is not listed but is part of a converted Victorian Board School and in the village conservation area.

I think I need another winegrin

Blimey. I don't think it is unreasonable to be traumatised by that at all.

How on earth could a truck roll-over??

Have a nice cup of tea with some sugar for the shock.

1 think she said it rolled back and hit the wall Ambergran, not rolled over.

Definitely do not let a mate of the driver arrange to get the repair done. Go through your insurers who, in turn, will claim off either the driver or the owner of the haulage company…….thats what they have public liability cover for.
Sorry to hear this has happened and fortunately, no one was injured! It sounds like a lovely wall too.

Im not surprised you are feeling traumatised. What a shock. Definitely go through insurance

cornergran Mon 25-May-26 18:52:12

Goodness kitty, no wonder the shock hit you. Exactly right, insurance must sort this one out. Your wall needs rebuilding by a craftsman. I’m sure you’ll have taken photos of the damage, with luck the actual incident will have been captured by someone’s door camera or security camera. Not that there’s any doubt - your wall didn’t jump onto the lorry. I think you deserve a glass of something this evening.

Oh flipping heck Kitty definitely insurance job.

I would be shaky, upset and cross.

Take care

Ilovecheese Mon 25-May-26 18:28:17

Not unreasonable at all. A terrible shock. Take care of yourself.

MT62 Mon 25-May-26 18:27:59

Lucky no one was killed. Don’t let his mate touch your wall as it will need a proper stone mason to sort it out surely ‘on their insurance’

Jaxjacky Mon 25-May-26 18:23:26

Oh goodness kitty I’d be traumatised too, what a pain.

kittylester Mon 25-May-26 18:21:26

Thank you, J52. Not sure the truck owner will be happy about that. But, we are going down that route.

Mid afternoon we had a ring on the doorbell. Thinking it was a delivery, DH went to answer it but didn't comeback as I had expected him to.

I eventually went to investigate and discovered that a truck parked at a house over the road had rolled back, gathering speed, mounted the pavement and dislodged about 25 feet of our front wall.

The wall is granite and has been there (in one form or another) since the 1870s. The owner of the truck says he has a 'mate' who will sort it out.

Our next door neighbour saw it all -including 3 teenage boys who tried to stop the truck by holding onto the door handle (she yelled at them) and she saw the owner chasing it. Luckily, there was no-one on the pavement or cars on the road.

I was fine and was trying to stop the truck owner looking and acting shocked.

Now, I feel dreadful.
