Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny Carlisle. It was cloudy and grey when I got up and I expected rain.
I did some cleaning and tidied up my office yesterday. Then, after lunch, I thought to go out in the garden and plant a couple of herb plants I'd bought. Mistake! It should have been an easy job but I'd underestimated the burning heat, I felt I was being fried into the ground! But there were my younger neighbours happily sitting out in it.... I was glad to get back inside and sit in my front room with an open window letting in a gentle, cool breeze.
Today, into town for a prescription and a little shopping, maybe a coffee though I'm trying to cut back on those, they're getting expensive and Mrs Meanie here rather jibs at the price.
Oh, and I need to go into Waterstones for a present, the danger being that I will also come out with a book for me. I've never not.
I plan a quiet afternoon, tackling my book backlog would be a good idea!

Have a good day everyone!

And if anyone thinks a full screen advert for Slimming World suddenly blocking out my post will encourage me to patronise them, no, it will have the opposite effect so stop it!
It's not easy or obvious getting rid of it.

Morning all from West Oxfordshire.

I was woken by rain but all I can hear now are birds singing. We have several nests in the garden which I hope the cats don’t know about!

It is our Golden Wedding today. We married in Henley on Thames on a very hot day in 1976. We flew to Seychelles a few weeks later where it was even hotter, and lived there for two years.

We are having a celebratory lunch at our favourite restaurant. On Sunday we are flying to Malta for the first of our special holidays - the second is to the Italian lakes in September,

We are both sad that our children won’t be involved in any celebration but unless they were all there it wouldn’t be the same.

Have a good day everyone, good wishes and commiserations to those of you having difficulties.

Good morning from a cooler and cloudy Black Country, a relief from the heat!

A sunny walk yesterday along our local canal and a cafe stop half way. Lovely to see the pair of Swans with their Cygnets, all 8 of them!

Today we are going to visit MrJ's DD after her Operation on her leg yesterday. Unless of course they send her home today.

Wishing you all the best day possible

Good morning from a cooler northwest coast.
I had my Covid jab yesterday morning and as expected, felt strange (or rather stranger in my case…) for the rest of the day. Sore arms don’t bother me, but side effects do.

Before it really hit me, I stocked up at my favourite butcher nearby, not all meat but a variety of their tasty good quality products.
In the afternoon to the optician for a trial run of contact lenses for reading music. My prescription is complicated, with distance and close work being catered for. I seem to be coming and going to the optician by the minute.

After that I fell into a sleep at home round the clock which couldn’t be denied and didn’t affect my night’s sleep.

I’m off to my hairdresser by car twenty miles away this afternoon for colour and cut, so hope to be feeling more normal.
Thoughts to all as always 🌺

Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 13°C.and cloudy

Baubles, I used to hate sports day. Because I did not have class, I was the impartial judge. There was always some parent, who wanted to lynch me, because their wean hadn't won.

FGT, you sound more positive. ♥️

Melanie, why are men such wimps. I had to laugh, I know his twin.

Yesterday was not a good day. DH is experiencing side effects from his new meds, he was extremely dizzy and spent much of the day sleeping and feeling sorry for himself..

After braving the traffic and handing in his samples, I went into the garden to hide.
Late in the afternoon, he received a call from the surgery about his tests.
I could hear him saying, that I handed them in at 10am.
He hadn't put the call on speaker phone and was getting all muddled, because he couldn't hear.
Eventually I took the phone from him, only to be told he (read she) needs to pick up a new test, the use by date on the test had expired.
I was fuming, explaining that the GP took the test from a drawer in her room and handed it to him personally..
I suggested they check her stock!

My plan today was to selfishly escape to Silverburn, go to MS foodhall and browse their sale. Nae luck.
My stomach is churning at the thought of driving to the surgery for the fourth time this week and in the completely opposite direction to Silverburn.

I wrote a lengthy message to DS2 last night. DH had replied to both sons, saying he was fine, just a little dizzy,
My boys have no idea, how unwell he is. I lost the plot with DH. He is in total denial or doesn't remember how unkind, hurtful and irrational he has become.
I was trying to protect them, because they are very close to DH and knowing of his awful behaviour would hurt them badly. On the other hand, DD has had an epiphany. Thank God!

DS2 replied with a lovely message, saying that they were grateful for how I am taking care of DH, even if he isn't!!
However, I cannot do this on my own anymore.
He hasn't even noticed how unwell I am.

My friend messaged yesterday, to tell me that his sister, on life support, had died. She had exactly the same bowel ops as DIL, and like DIL developed sepsis, but had initially did not seek help, until it was too late. 😪
I realised how lucky DIL is.

Sorry for the I am sorry for myself post, I just need to offload,
I will be fine, now I have got it off my chest.

I am going to reward myself, by buying something, I don't need in M&S sale. That will be my carer's allowance payment. 🤭

Good morning from sunny Suffolk. We have a busy day ahead as we are off on holiday tomorrow,a cruise around Ireland where we expect much cooler temperatures and some rain. Well we don’t go to Ireland for the weather.

It is a country we both love and have visited many times both together and separately in the early 70s before we met. We are going to some places,Killybegs and Londonderry when the Troubles were raging and others like Cobh, the cruise port for Cork and Belfast which we have visited several times in recent years.

I’m thinking I shall have a break from social media so probably won’t post until we return. I hope that life continues oat an easy and positive pace for all especially those coping with their own or another’s ill health or distress in any form.

Good morning from a dry but overcast NE, forecast is for 19° today.
Wasn't well yesterday so spent the day binge watching TV.
This morning I was woken at 5.30 am by the loft hatch falling open, it is in my bedroom. Thought I wouldn't go back to sleep but managed another two hours.
Today I am going out for lunch with my friend, haven't seen her for five weeks. We always used to have Champagne but I can't drink at present.
Last day of sister's holiday in the Lakes they have had good weather. Look forward to hearing all about their time away.
Thoughts are with Marydoll and her DH.

Marzipan22 Fri 29-May-26 08:09:01

Grammaretto if I was still painting I'd make a semi-abstract from your beach photo. All those lovely lines and colours!

latedecember1963 Fri 29-May-26 08:06:40

Good morning everyone from Anglesey.

We had a lovely trip to Cadnant Garden near Beaumaris yesterday.
It lay forgotten for decades until the current owner stumbled upon it by chance. He set about restoring the gardens and converted the outbuildings into holiday cottages.
It's the most magical place and must be lovely for the holuday cottage people in the evening when the day visitors have left.

I love " the Lynx era" Grandmabatty. 🤣🤣 I so remember my son going through that stage, although Lynx Africa is really nice.

Melanie61, it's a good job we love them, isn't it?! I'm sure I have irritating quirks too, but there are times when I could strangle DH too.

Cockroaches are probably my field mice. Our house backs onto acres of fields and woodland but every so often a field mouse will decide our house is more inviting. I don't mind them in the garage or in the garden but I can't be doing with them in the house.

Wishing you all the best day possible. 🌻

dragonfly46 Fri 29-May-26 08:05:53

Lulu if she is a good friend I would pop round although she maybe away.

dragonfly46 Fri 29-May-26 08:04:58

Good morning from a cooler, overcast Leicestershire.

We enjoyed our lunch by the lake yesterday although it was very quiet, I wonder how they make money.
Today a trip to M&S then Pilates. I may do some ironing and charge the car.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

luluaugust Fri 29-May-26 07:52:16

Good morning from an overcast W Kent. We were down to seven at art yesterday, I hope we keep going. Later DH and I traipsed round Bluewater and needed tea and scones to keep us going
Today a shop and that’s it.
I am worrying as I can’t contact a very good friend. No answer on phone, no reply to WhatsApp. Do I go and knock, very odd.
Best wishes to all

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it's sunny.

I arrived home after a long hot journey by car, train and bus from the North of Scotland to find some of my seedlings had shriveled. 😕 But my yellow rose has flowered.

It was a very nice few days away staying with my friend. Peaceful and relaxing. I can see why she lives where she does. Picture is Dornoch beach with not a soul on it.

Back to work this morning and I must keep my house acceptable in case I get viewers this weekend.

One of the houses I liked has a closing date of noon today. I shall speak to the agent but it's probably not going to be possible to bid.

I hope that Marydoll is getting the support she needs with DH health.

Have the best day possible, everyone.

They used to call the cockroaches in Singapore “the great leveller” as everyone suffered with them, from the lowest right up to the High Commissioner himself. They were everywhere and we hated them!

Greyduster Fri 29-May-26 07:39:30

Good morning Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where it is cooler today - set only to be in the low twenties. It was hot walking yesterday, even in the woods and everyone was flagging.

I picked GS up on the way home and we set to putting new screening on the back fence. It was a difficult job as all the plants in the flower bed are now a decent size and we had to work around them. It was a heavy job. We did get it in place but it needs further work to secure it. That will be a job for another day. He then got the mower out and cut the lawn for me. We freshened up and went to the pub for tea. I offered him the pick of the menu. What did he have? Fish and chips🤷‍♀️!! Could have had those at home! He was a cheap date last night😂!

Today is a rest day. He will go home later as he is playing golf with his father and uncle. I don’t intend to do a lot after that. Everything hurts today! I have to get another quote for getting the guttering cleaned, and carry on researching cordless mowers🙄!

Have the best day you can, folks.

Gingster Fri 29-May-26 07:35:38

Good morning all and it’s overcast , warm with no breeze at all here in Essex. That lovely cooling air has now disappeared 😢.

Yesterday I took DH’s hearing aids to the audiologist at Specsavers. She said they seemed ok but any more problems she’ll send them off.
Of course now one of them has refused to charge again!
They only have Thursday appointments in our town. 😤.

I went to the station to catch my train, only to hear they had cancelled it. Another half hour wait until the next one .😤
Anyway I had a lovely few hours with my old school pals and was back home by 4.

Not sure if we’ll go to meet our Friday friends. Dh said he doesn’t want to but having had offers of lifts, I’ll try to encourage him. He’s really just happy at home.

Take care all 🌺

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. Dry at the moment, showers are forecast for this morning. We had a shower yesterday evening after dark, just enough to make the road wet, but not much good otherwise.
I need to do some ironing this morning and I hope that DD2 will call in this morning too.

Goodness grandmattie, a dramatic start to yesterday! What a good thing you were able to help your neighbour.

fgt enjoy your quiet day today, recharging your batteries in such a lovely place.

marzipan a very successful shop for you yesterday. I hope you have a good bus journey this afternoon!

Hoping that those who are struggling today find some relief.
Have the best day possible everyone.

Jaxjacky Fri 29-May-26 07:31:18

Morning from S Hants, cooler at 15, still sunny.
That shower Gagagran started just as family arrived for bbq, big fat rain as we sat down outside. We laughed and carried on, played UNO until food was ready, lovely few hours.
Solace for the soul FGT
It’s a miracle Melanie!
Sounds idyllic brook
Off to the local tonight, now decked out with World Cup bunting.
Have a pleasant day all

BlueSapphire Fri 29-May-26 07:24:53

Good morning everyone from a cooler overcast Northampton, but it will be a dry day, so I have just put a load.of washing in the machine. Trying to get things done as I prepare for my cataract surgery on Tuesday.

Went shopping yesterday morning to get a few things in, had coffee and cake in Costa, and really did nothing much for the rest of the day.

Planning on batch cooking a curry this morning using a very old recipe given to me by a Malaysian friend we met when we were living in Cyprus (40 years ago!). It is just.called 'Monica's Curry'.

Bellasnana I too hate cockroaches and have had to deal with them whenever we lived abroad, Singapore, Cyprus and Australia - in Australia we had to have the whole house fumigated every six months, which caused much upheaval and emptying of cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, a real pain.

I need to find time to go and get a new pack of my usual eye.drops in case of irritated eyes next week. I may go early before rugby tomorrow and hop off the bus at Boots, a couple of stops before the stadium, then I'll just walk the 10/15 minutes to the ground.

Wishing all a pleasant day.

baubles Fri 29-May-26 07:20:50

Good morning from slightly overcast South Lanarkshire.

Yesterday was pleasant, it was the middle child’s school sports day which was actually a circuit of various games involving beanbags, hoops, balls, and sacks. DGD enjoyed it very much. We had a lovely view over the water to the Bass Rock.

I’m doing a shift in the charity shop today, not my usual shift but they are struggling with a lack of volunteers just now.

Wishing everyone a good day, thoughts as always to those with troubles.

Grandmabatty Fri 29-May-26 07:18:56

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 14° and very cloudy and windy. GrandMattie well done for not panicking. I hope your neighbour is ok after falling. Susan I hope the blood test goes ok. Marzipan it would never have occurred to me to paint shoes. What a good idea.
Yesterday I wanted to buy strawberry tarts for the nursery staff but there were none to be had, so chocolate éclairs and raspberry donuts it had to be. They were very much appreciated by the ladies. Then I did half an hour in the school library before heading home. I didn't do much the rest of the day but pottered in the house. Dd sent me photos in the evening of dgs1 ready to go to his school disco. He looked ridiculously grown up for a 7 year old. The Lynx era is fast approaching 😂
Today I have a quiet morning then I'm meeting my ballet buddy and another friend at the garden centre in the afternoon. Im looking forward to that.
Have a good day all.

Gelisajams Fri 29-May-26 07:13:11

Good morning Mick and all from a cloudy Morecambe Bay. Weather normality is returning thankfully.
Yesterday’s meet up with my friend was most enjoyable as was the lunch. We have a put a date in our diary for our next meet up so it doesn’t get too long. It was over eighteen months since we had seen each other. I got home to a very bare house as DH had moved as much as possible ready for the carpet fitters who are coming shortly. I’m surprised he found places to put everything. He even emptied the ‘little’ freezer into our main one and had squeezed it into the garage. You can’t usually move in the garage for his clutter.
We are intending to leave them to it and go out in the camper for the day. Walnut Island beckons.
Well done keeping a level head to sort out your neighbour Mattie
Thinking of all with problems and worries. flowersTake care. 🌸

Marzipan22 Fri 29-May-26 06:58:32

Good morning from Cornwall where it's a tiny bit less warm, phew. In fact it's looking overcast. Yesterday I did lots of shopping, buying new shoes which were badly needed but as my favourite independent shoe shop only had what I wanted in white I'm painting them teal and jade. Found some cooling, floppy patchwork trousers at the hippy market stall, patterned with toadstools and flowers. After that 480 decaff Cornish teabags for my Scouse son-in-law who I'll see next week, factor 40 suncream, a replacement watch battery and a mini deskfan completed the shopping list following which I rewarded myself with a pot of tea and cake in the shade at a riverside café.

I'm at a prayer meeting this morning and then, if the temperature permits, I'll take a bus somewhere for a jaunt as I've been confined to home for several days and fancy a change of scenery.

Gagagran Fri 29-May-26 06:58:03

Good Morning all from a thankfully much cooler central south coast. We even had a light shower early evening which cleared a bit of dust and pollen.

So glad you are enjoying your time in Malaga FGT. I think it was me who said "recharging your emotional batteries" which felt like the right description. Happy it resonated!

Yesterday DH got the car full of cardboard to the tip and also visited the store which had tried to charge a delivery charge even though the item was not delivered! He said the lady on the customer counter was really helpful and efficient and he got his refund with no problem. She told him that the online customer services are frequently failing to help customers and head them off to the store to sort things out.

I heard from a choir friend that the rehearsal on Wednesday evening was cut short when our MD felt dizzy and had blurred vision and the accompanist was also overcome by the extreme heat. I am so glad I didn't go!

Thoughts are of MD and her DH and all our GN friends with troubles, worries or struggles of any kind. May the day bring some ease and comfort to all.
