Witzend. That drawer should have been an art gallery exhibit a la Tracey Emin.

Yes, what a shame I didn’t think of entering it for the Turner Prize!

Re dementia and ‘squirrelling away’, a friend found £2000 in an old uncle’s flat after he died - all tucked in between a big pile of newspapers in his sitting room!

Sadly all I ever found from my mother’s ‘squirrelling’, was a dried up ham sandwich on a plate in her knicker drawer! 😂

I thought I’d lost two lovely gold bracelets DH had bought me. I was convinced I must have left them at a hotel we’d been to. Several months later I pulled a jumper from a drawer and they fell out from the folds. I must have tucked them in when packing to come home, and not having worn the jumper just put it straight in the drawer. The relief!

I just tackled one of the drawers in a small chest - full of goodness knows what, the stuff and junk of ages. But to my amazement I found a pair of pearl and diamond earrings dh gave me ages ago. For a quite a few years now I’ve been tormenting myself that I’d lost them through my own carelessness - I thought I knew exactly how, too.

But there they were, in a little box, but not the fancier one they’d come in. Goodness knows what sort of brain lapse I must have had to have forgotten where I’d put them - having been so convinced that they were lost!

Dh has never asked why I haven’t been wearing them - TBH he’s not much of a ‘noticer’ and just as well!

I haven’t worn earrings since losing a favourite pearl stud some time ago, piercings have now closed up, so I shall now get them done again.
Talk about phew!!!

It is so easy to lose earrings, I lost two during COVID because of mask wearing. Our cousin in Canada received a pair of diamond stud earrings for long service in the BC Government, she was mortified when she lost one of them, when she retired she was happy to find the diamond studs on the list of leaving gifts she could choose.

My mum used to hide money all over the place, which we didn't realise until after she went into care with dementia. We'd find £5 or £10 notes hidden in the most random of places - and as she had become a hoarder, it was quite a task sorting through everything! So yes, do check...

How lovely to find them again smile

I read somewhere that when the husband died and the wife was clearing out , he had a load of books, and the wife found,£10 notes in the pages...so if you have any books for charity , have a look through them first..

What a lovely surprise to find your earrings. Better than a long out of date packet of cough sweets!

When my FiL died my MiL luckily checked suit and jacket pockets before sending them off in charity bags. She found a few hundred pounds in total.

My Mum had almost £1000 squirrelled away when I cleared her house after she died.
That's £500 each for my children, courtesy of Grandma, when they come to buy there own places.

Phew indeed. Well done.

Coat pockets and handbags should have a regular sort out as well. Amazing what one finds which were thought lost.
