Anyone else not watching the World Cup

Have any non fans got anything planned for the six weeks the World Cup will be on? I'm looking through the streaming services and Youtube for old dramas to watch and, if the weather is nice, will be making full advantage of this. Only being in the office two days a week as well means I can avoid people talking about footballers I've never heard of.

No, I'm not watching it.

Well, not in England anyway. 🤣

I am watching from my house in France. France's prediction to win is higher than England's, so that's who I'll support.

There's loads of merchandise here in supermarkets and shops. I bought DGS the kit, so France had better not be knocked out before I get home at the beginning of July!!

I detest football with a vengeance!!

It's not just a female thing, a lot of men don't like football and prefer other sports, or watch no sports at all. In the office at work, the majority of staff are women, and only two like football, and half the men don't care either.
My main dislie of football, and also other team sports, is hereditaty: my dad hated school games, I had no aptitude at them and won't watch soemthing I hated playing as a kid and couldn't play.
Don't get the patriotism thing about supporting England either: the players live in a world far removed from the fans and only care about the money. They're certainly not my country.

No interest whatsoever. My life will carry on as usual.

We have football mad children and grandchildren, so will try to watch, especially England and Spain

PandoraBlue Thu 04-Jun-26 18:02:50

I dont watch it at all, it has no interest for me I would rather knit fog

Me! TBH I loathe football.

Ditto.

I may watch the odd game, but most of the time I shall just keep an eye on the results. I have plenty of things to keep myself occupied anyway, so the World Cup won't really make a difference to my life.

I shall return to watching my local team in August.

Well I'll be watching some that isn't on at silly o'clock, I love football. I boycotted the last one as a matter of principle and wouldn't let myself watch one minute of it. I thought about boycotting this one because of the USA involvement but decided not to. I'll be in the correct timezone for the last couple of weeks of the tournament so would love it if England get that far.

I didn’t boycott the last one but felt that I should boycott this one. However, having boycotted the Eurovision Song Contest ( which I love) I’ve decided that I’m not going to let Trump deprive me of something I enjoy. At least during the matches I hopefully won’t have to turn on the tv to see him ranting on about something. I’m no expert but I don’t remember being very impressed with the standard of football in the last one ( I don’t understand the game (eg offside stuff) but do know when I’m watching a good one!). Will Wimbledon be coinciding with it, too?

Wyllow3 Thu 04-Jun-26 17:39:29

I meant me listening to the radio whilst they had the footie on..

Wyllow3 Thu 04-Jun-26 17:38:55

I'll watch a decent match if I'm with family footie fans just to join in, but if its a boring one may be found elsewhere chatting on gransnet (no, not cooking the meal, but I used to do that when It was my first DH and DS growing up listening to R3 or 4 in the kitchen).

HowVeryDareYou2 Thu 04-Jun-26 17:36:16

It won't be on in our house - neither of us likes football

Aveline Thu 04-Jun-26 17:27:10

Definitely not watching the world cup, Wimblebore, athletics or golf!

Jaxjacky Thu 04-Jun-26 17:25:06

We will both be watching at least England and Scotland during sociable hours.

Sago Thu 04-Jun-26 17:25:05

Rugby fan, football is too slow.

I will watch if we get to semi final/final.

JamesandJon33 Thu 04-Jun-26 17:10:00

DH and me. Not one match…absolutely no interest

Susan56 Thu 04-Jun-26 17:01:43

We definitely won’t be watching😴

My brother likes football, but as England and Scotland are mostly playing later at night, he''ll be watching at home. Just as well these days there are more than four channels and the internet, as it used to be a real chore in the past to find something else to watch when the World Cup was on in the eighties and nineties. Also it clashed with summer sports that meant non sports fans had nothing to watch.

Rocketstop2 Thu 04-Jun-26 16:11:55

I'm not watching and neither is DH !!

Wheniwasyourage Thu 04-Jun-26 15:40:53

I know people who are actually going to the World Cup more money than sense but I will not be watching it, particularly as Scotland's matches are all at stupid o'clock and I would rather be asleep. It'll be fun for those who enjoy that sort of thing though!

AGAA4 Thu 04-Jun-26 15:18:14

There will be a big extravaganza to start with that someone said will go on so long that there won't be time for football!

Ziplok Thu 04-Jun-26 15:17:37

I agree with BlueBelle - it should have its own dedicated channel on mainstream tv as not all licence payers want to watch football. Why should their regular programmes be sacrificed every single time there’s a sports event?

watermeadow Thu 04-Jun-26 15:14:12

World Cup? I didn’t know there was one. Someone mentioned footballers so presumably it’s given to whoever kicks a ball around the best but I thought football was only played in the winter, when the participants can get maximum mud on their clothes.
I’m so glad I only had daughters.

Ziplok Thu 04-Jun-26 15:14:11

There will be no football watched in this house. Neither of us are in the slightest bit interested. Of course the tv schedules for the next month or so will go to pot in order to prioritise the “beautiful game” 🤨.
I will find plenty of other things to do, however.
