It feels odd to have a kitchen without our founder.

We shall carry on as she would have wished.

Supporting each other and sharing our ups and downs 😘🥂🫖☕️🍰

Grannmarie Sun 12-Jul-26 10:09:55

Good morning, lovely Kitchen people! 🥰

I'm popping in from my comfy chair in the Quiet Corner to say Hello 👋 to everyone, and especially to wish UTBB many happy returns of the day. Cheers, good health and enjoy your birthday whatever you decide to do.🥂🎂🎉🥳

My car is all packed, I'm in shorts, T-shirt and shades, just about ready to drive down to the Solway Firth to join the Wee Boy, his Mum and Dad and other Granny at their holiday lodge for a couple of days. I'll be back midweek.
Best wishes to all celebrating, safe journeys to all travellers, kind thoughts to all with illness, worries or sorrow. Thinking of many absent friends, hoping and praying that all is well with them.
TOYA

There is a lovely breeze here, long may it last. I can live with the T at 23C but again it will rise to 32C today. I know I shouldnt be moaning about the heat as I am saving on energy and cooking.

TillyTrotter that was a good bargain and a pretty dress. I am sitting wearing a T shirt 20 + years old from M&S in the days when they made clothes to last. Unfortunately, this will be its last outing.

Naughtyneine Sat 11-Jul-26 22:56:35

A very quick message to say I'm sorry not to have been around...we are in the middle of a very big decision that's left my head a bit scrambled if I'm honest. I will be back when things are a bit clearer. Love to you all in the meantime.

Love the dresses fgt, you definitely deserve them. This summer I’ve realised how old most of my clothes are, so have treated myself to one or two new things. I like pockets in my dresses too.

A cooler breeze here today, it’s only 20 degrees outside at the moment and it feels cold! I wish I could get the inside cool too.

hulahoop I’m sure you’ll enjoy your DGD’s dance show, despite the heat in the theatre. Well done to your DGS for his football awards.

I think it may be noisy outside later when the football is on and when it finishes, a number of my neighbours are having parties in their gardens this evening… I shan’t be watching it but if I’m awake I’ll check progress.

Enjoy the rest of the evening everyone.

I love the dresses FGT, particularly the first one. Ds, DiL and DGC came for a BBQ after a day of house sorting. DGS has already made £85 selling Lego he has grown out of. DH did a BBQ but he is struggling to master his new BBQ, which burns hotter than the last.
For pud I did a platter of fruit and a bowl of very simple chocolate sauce. It all disappeared in record time!
I hope you are all a bit cooler tonight

GrannyGravy13 Sat 11-Jul-26 20:21:55

You are doing fabulously FGT2 👍🏻

TillyTrotter Sat 11-Jul-26 19:36:29

Lovely choice of dresses fgt and your Dress Shop is quite a find.
I bought a new dress in White Stuff’s 20% sale today.
I like a sleeve as my arms have gone a bit crepey.

Charleygirl5 Sat 11-Jul-26 19:08:57

fgt excellent to find that boutique, and you will enjoy wearing your recent purchases. I rather fancy your meal, especially as it has been prepared by somebody else. Are you only having one
glass?

Mine will be salmon and broccoli fishcakes, mushrooms, mixed vegetables and croquettes. No wine, haven't touched any for months because of a change of drugs.

I do hope England does well and the weather doesn't interrupt the match.

Look after yourselves, it has been early 30's here, too hot for me.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 11-Jul-26 19:05:41

Ps he’d like the dresses
Said “get some new stuff some of what you’ve got is positively ancient !”

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 11-Jul-26 18:59:09

Thank you cornergran!
I ❤️ your saying.

Himself wanted me to ‘pick up the threads of my life’. In fact he insisted I do this when he was in the hospice.

It gives me strength thinking I’m honouring his wishes 💙

cornergran Sat 11-Jul-26 18:13:47

Go for it fgt. A saying here is we will because we deserve it. Covers anything from a cake to a holiday. Enjoy your dresses, you definitely deserve them 😊

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 11-Jul-26 18:07:24

Thank you Grandmabatty! I like them bc I’m tall and they come up to my ankles 😁 so no tripping up in them nor walking the hems down under my Havianas!

Grandmabatty Sat 11-Jul-26 17:54:34

I like your new dresses FGT!
I have been doing housework. Stripped the bed, washed it and remade the bed with fresh stuff. Charged my new hoover and gave it a whirl. Went to aldi and got food. Dinner will be burger and fries. Its been cooler and damp here today which suits me. Enjoy your evening kitchen folk.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sat 11-Jul-26 17:26:43

Well it’s glorious here in Málaga I feel quite blessed being here to be honest.

The searing heat is abating and so after walking up into Arroyo and buying these two maxi dresses at the boutique I recently discovered ❤️ (couldn’t choose between them so I treated myself to both - and they’ve got pockets! As Hinself used to say what is it about women with dresses that have pockets??”). 🤷‍♀️They don’t get it do they ladies? - I decided to stroll down to the marina for an early dinner (it’s 6:30pm now) and I’ve ordered a glass of Marquis de Casares (red) and a rib eye steak with peppercorns sauce and sides. Well it is Saturday! And I’m on holiday so … 😁

hulahoop Sat 11-Jul-26 10:17:58

Good morning from another hot day in Yorkshire , I hadn't been posting but I have been reading.
Granny gravy hope your enforced rest is working .
We are going to watch one of our granddaughters in her yearly dance show unfortunately it's an old theatre with no a/c to speak of so it will be a hot one, last night her brother won awards for football so we are doubly proud today .
Hope everyone survives this heat wave it's supposed to be cooler next week.

Charleygirl5 Sat 11-Jul-26 10:07:33

I know today is Saturday. I overslept. I can sleep anywhere and the heat doesn't appear to bother me in bed. Rather different downstairs.

Today will just be clothes washing and preparation for the match tonight. 10 pm is a late kick-off as I have to get up early tomorrow but I will probably survive.

Our hosepipe ban starts next week so that should bring the rain.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 10-Jul-26 22:07:41

Well spotted Jax!
I’ve got the same bug as Charkeygirl5 it seems! 😁

GrannySomerset Fri 10-Jul-26 22:02:18

Just back from lovely supper in a garden, attended by a well behaved but very hopeful dog and various friends. Will be so glad when the temperature drops a bit because I am absolutely useless in this heat as I don’t sleep despite the house being at a reasonable temperature. Yet another penalty of old age.

Redcar Fri 10-Jul-26 21:42:47

grannygravy definitely time to take things easy. Fortunately the weather is on your side and it’s too hot to do very much.
I walked to the pharmacy at the end of my road this morning to collect my prescription and was told I needed to have my blood pressure checked. Apparently it should be done every six months. No idea why, as I’ve never had a problem. Anyway, the pharmacist took my bp and all is well!

I did very little for the rest of the day, a load of washing which dried quickly outside, ironed some of it, then got the mower out and ran it over the weeds on the “lawn”. It looks a bit tidier but is very brown.

Some discussion online as to whether the Anglian water hosepipe ban affects us, but apparently it doesn’t (yet), probably only a matter of time before it does.
Watering with just a watering can is hard work, but doable if I do it in stages. I’ll just water the new plants and those that need a bit of tlc.

Night night everyone, tomorrow is Saturday!

brook2704 Fri 10-Jul-26 21:19:33

Oh goodness GG definitely rest and get a bit better soon ❤️
There’s a thunderstorm underway up here, lashing down with rain, thunder and lightning. The little garden pond is overflowing and there’s a big river running down the middle of the road - no need for any watering tomorrow!
I’ve had a busy day, the gym, a walk into town a browse around the busy shops and then hopped on the bus home. Lots of tourists about, stopping by the river taking photos etc so I joined in too
Thinking of all our friends in the quiet corner, take care all x

Jaxjacky Fri 10-Jul-26 20:52:50

I know there’s a time difference FGT, but it’s Friday there too I think!
Another hot day, perfect right now, a lovely long call with my brother earlier today, we get on so well, then a similarly long call with a good friend.
Too late for boring housework, I watched tennis 🙂.
Enjoy the rest of your evenings.
