Lighthearted - How long do you display Birthday Cards?

I am celebrating my 85th birthday over two Saturdays - a fortnight apart. My actual birthday fell on a Saturday, but with three of my younger g.children being involved with GCSE's, could not arrange the family celebration until two week later. Had a lovely afternoon tea with a couple of dozen local friends

Anyway, this means that I have lots of birthday cards, which i have put up on all available spaces in my Living Room. Many have been hand-made and I will keep these until the Saturday of my family party.

Just wondering how long after that I should still keep them up? So was wondering how long other G.N's display birthday cards.

One week precisely. Then mostly into the recycling, but I do keep some family ones forever. The house is full of them, hidden all over the place.

One week, sometimes less

Usually about a couple of weeks. I save any really special ones, take the plain backs of others to use for notes, shopping lists etc and the fronts go into the recycling bin.

Birthday cards up as we speak, for a week. Also Fathers day cards! Mothers day falls around my husband's birthday so two lots up then too.

No more than a week after that I’m done with my birthday!

Greciangirl Tue 23-Jun-26 14:02:48

About a week, usually.

I always keep the the big O cards as they are a reminder of how far I have come.
And usually those particular ones are special.
I’m eighty now, so not a lot more I guess.
Ha Ha.

I get very few actual cards now - most of friends and (small) family members have already died - I am 91 years old. However, I do get numerous WhatsApp greetings with Gif pictures.

About a week.I keep cards that are special to me for other uses.I've cut some apart to use in scrapbook making. Some are so beautiful that I put them in a picture frame.

7-10 days for me I’ve just celebrated my 70th and held a party so I have a lot and I’m loving seeing them.

No longer than a week, usually 3 or 4 days, then they go into the recycling bin.

About 2 weeks unless another person has a birthday then they come down. When my eldest DS lived at home my birthday is very end of August and his first few days into September so mine only used to get 4-5 days. Now he has his own home minecget 2 weeks.

We always keep cards on display for a week. They are then stored with other cards (Christmas cards are kept separately) until… whenever!

Same here...........

We keep cards up for one week .. Happy Birthday 🍰

Approximately 2 weeks as a rule. They then get recycled unless they are particularly special or make a lovely picture - I’ve done that with a couple of cards, bought a cheap frame and put them on the wall.

I've recently started treating birthday cards like Christmas cards, they go up when they arrive and come down a day or two after.

Missiseff Tue 23-Jun-26 18:07:31

Less than a week

Renata1079 Tue 23-Jun-26 18:37:25

One week!

Hemgranot Tue 23-Jun-26 18:46:06

My birthday is the end of October. My cards stay up until Christmas cards start arriving.

I love receiving cards and sometimes keep them up for several weeks. Some people put a lot of thought into choosing a card and I feel it’s only respectful to admire them as long as possible.
Afterwards they go in a drawer somewhere, find if hard to get rid of them!!

I keep all cards out for a year ... Why not ? I love some Xmas cards and dont want to chuck them away and but new ones ? Why ?

Peaseblossom Tue 23-Jun-26 20:32:10

A week. Thought I was being extra sentimental keeping them up that long, but apparently not!

Daddima Tue 23-Jun-26 20:34:45

I don’t display them at all! I stopped doing that when there were no children in the house.
My friend keeps all her cards for one year, then, when the next year’s cards arrive, she goes through the previous year’s cards, and if anybody has died during the year, she keeps the last card from them, and puts the rest in the bin.
Now, that’s organisation!

Binned the next day. Worthless clutter.

Not daft at all Granmarie 🥰.
Well hubby had his 70th on Sunday which was also Fathers Day and sadly the first fathers Day without his dad too.
I am probably on my own here, but I can keep cards up on display for up to 3 months!!🤣🤣

Mr Sunshine’s cards will come down just before my birthday in September and then we have Christmas cards, and then our anniversary in March!

There’s always cards of some sort on display. It makes us happy to see them and to read the messages inside. You do you - there’s no right or wrong way x
