Are You Finding the Hot Weather is Making you Short Tempered?

I am.

I have also noticed some of the posts on GN threads are touchier.

Criticism about the low level of literacy evidenced by some of us has crept in. Shirty statements and replies are becoming more common.

I expect things will improve when the temperature drops.

At the beginning of the hot days I was a bit short tempered but now I have just accepted that I must just try to stay out of the heat as much as possible and only do what is essential. I'm just about to collapse into a chair and start listening to an Audible Harry Potter dramatisation. That will keep me out of trouble for a bit.

HobbyCat Wed 24-Jun-26 14:42:35

Yes. Fine in the morning but grumpy afternoon onwards. I’m feeling bad tempered now, luckily I have nobody to snap at ☺️

keepcalmandcavachon Wed 24-Jun-26 14:44:48

Henetha, Peaseblossom and all flowers , it feels relentless doesn't it?
Hope everyone is managing, don't be afraid to ask for help from neighbours etc, goodness knows I'm sure we've all done our fair share of helping out previously grin and folk are generally happy to do what they can, be it setting up a bit of shading, fetching groceries or perscriptions.
Blimey I'm so looking forward to a little normality next week, even weeding sounds good!

Can’t be bothered with anything.

AuntieE Wed 24-Jun-26 14:52:05

I love hot weather and have so much more energy and appetite when the weather is as ot as it is now,

I will admit though, that if i do not get sufficient fluids I do tend to become short-tempered, but that applies in any sort of weather.

Just hope this weather lasts all summer.

Bazza Wed 24-Jun-26 14:56:37

Me neither Harris 27. I’m coping with the heat all day as long as I have my trusty fan and I don’t have to move too much. As long as this is the case I’m ok but may get grumpy if expected to do stuff. I had breakfast with a friend this morning who loves the heat and looked very cool and unruffled. I spare mote than a passing thought for a close friend who has to wear surgical stockings all day. I dare not tell her that I’m too hot!

SillyNanny321 Wed 24-Jun-26 15:35:21

My aches dont like this weather! They have now got aches of their own! Have to keep moving or get stuck so just as I get comfy, get into a book I have to get up & wander from room to room to exercise as my Physio calls it! Fans on full blast dont seem to beat the sun coming through my very large windows in my lounge. Closed curtains are laughed at by the heat! Still supposed to be cooler & wet next week in Essex according to my weather app! Gives us all something else to moan about! Time for another cuppa methinks 😂

I've just been corrected from typing 'ascorbic' instead of 'ascerbic' on the Jane Austin thread- I stand corrected!

Firstly - the post was about Jane Austin after all. Secondly the chemical structure of ascorbic acid was not deduced in her day. Oops 😂

Regarding sleep I started taking a magnesium glycinate 3 in 1 6/8 weeks ago.
I take 2 an hour or so before bed, they have changed my life.
I sleep well and go straight back to sleep after a loo trip.

BlueBelle Wed 24-Jun-26 16:26:37

No I m just so HAPPY I want to smile at everyone, well I do.Just finished work, been for a beautiful dip in the sea and came home, sat and fell fast asleep in my deckchair in my wild garden, what could be better. A dream of a day

BlueBelle Wed 24-Jun-26 16:27:33

AuntieE I m with you all the way, bring it on

TanaMa Wed 24-Jun-26 16:37:09

Had to go out today for a podiatrist appt, then did a big shop as hadn't bothered until cupboards nearly bare! Even the shop's aircon dudn't seem to be cool enough. Get home, drenched in perspiration, unload car and collapse in front of the fan!! My biggest problem is keeping my Boxer dog cool, being short nosed this weather is very difficult for her. Cooling mats (if only she would stay on them!), fans on full blast and slices of cold water melon!!

LisaAN Wed 24-Jun-26 16:43:08

Hopefully this hellish weather will end soon and not come back for the rest of this summer. I don’t have the luxury of sitting in front of a fan all day. By the time I finished work yesterday my clothes were wet and sticking to me. I dread tomorrow and Friday

LisaAN Wed 24-Jun-26 16:44:07

And yes, this weather makes me very short tempered

crazyH Wed 24-Jun-26 16:45:45

Went for a few bits and pieces. The AC in the Co-op was perfect. People were loitering there, just to get cool 😂

Nell82 Wed 24-Jun-26 16:51:35

We had tree surgeons to remove a leylandii hedge this morning. Had to close the windows against the noise of stump grinding and wood chipping.

Now we've hit a new June record of 36º here and I'm losing the will to live!

Cath9 Wed 24-Jun-26 18:27:40

I haven’t got anyone to feel short tempered with!
However, if the forecasters are correct when saying that in 30 years time these temperatures will be a normal way of life.
If so I hope the Uk will become more like France and Spain where, wherever I have stayed I have always found an Open Air swimming pool. If not by the coast.

honeyrose Wed 24-Jun-26 18:51:03

Maybe I’m a bit grumpier, but definitely very lethargic and I don’t sleep as well. If I can get away with it, I do as little physical work as possible (I’m retired and therefore my own boss!) and quite a bit of reading in the garden goes on, especially in the late evening - a lovely time of day when there’s a breath of fresh air, with a bit of luck. I was still reading at almost midnight yesterday!

Bazza Wed 24-Jun-26 19:09:23

Nell82 it could have been worse if you were doing the cutting! This is a joke btw and not a snide comment. I am also losing the will.. I’ve spent the afternoon sprawled on my bed with curtains closed and my face as close to the fan as possible.

I’m not short tempered but my hair is a frizzy mess and there’s no point in wearing make up.

How do some women look effortlessly chic in this weather?

For the first time ever my normally quite straight hair has gone frizzy and uncontrollable. It's sticking out everywhere. My hairdresser came today and cut a couple of inches of too. I feel too tired to straighten it.
I am wearing a very cool dress and no makeup. I could not care less what I look like as I am not going out.
I am tired and perhaps a bit more bad tempered. It will pass.

Musicgirl Wed 24-Jun-26 19:57:16

grandMattie

I get much more lethargic in the heat. I really find temperatures of more than about 26C intolerable.
And, yes, I’m grumpier than normal because I loathe not being able to do things, sweat like the proverbial pig and turn into a panda with a scarlet, glowing face with white round my mouth and eyes…

26 degrees is about my limit, too. It makes me very uncomfortable and lethargic, especially as I have to double up on my very strong hay fever medication.

Tie your hair back and take a tip from Joan Collins:
A big hat, big sunglasses, bright lipstick
👒 😎 💋

BlueBelle Wed 24-Jun-26 20:40:16

LisAn we get about two weeks summer a year and 99% of the year is cold wet and dreary Isn’t that enough for you ?
Why on earth do you begrudge people a few measly weeks a year

Bridey Wed 24-Jun-26 20:48:31

Love love love this weather, feel more energised and happy, the old makes me bad tempered and grumpy!!

Bridey Wed 24-Jun-26 20:49:02

The old and the cold😄😄🤣
