A different hot weather question.

My thoughts exactly, avitorl, but I’ve just read the message again and it quite clearly says ‘ice pops will be on sale at break tomorrow and Wednesday at just 50p. Please remember to send your child with some money if they would like to buy one’.
So wrong on so many counts. So very glad I left it to my son to contact school, he will have given them very short shrift if I know him, in a polite but very firm manner!

As a retired teacher I would be disgusted to think any school would let any child go without an ice lolly in this heat and expect them to stand by and watch other children enjoy theirs.

This has restored my faith in human
nature. What a kind thing to do.

I would hope that the school recoup most of the money through the 50ps & let the ones who've lost their coin have one anyway.

But to suggest to pay for all of them is such a lovely idea.

Yes, little ones love anything out of the ordinary, don’t they?
When our grandsons were little we (mostly) followed mummy and daddy’s rule of eat all your tea before pudding but once in a blue moon we had ‘backwards’ tea and started with pudding. And once or twice when it was tea timee we told them I’d forgotten to make any so we would have to go to the seaside for fish and chips.
They are older teenagers now but still remember those ‘different’ days with great fondness.

Those children will remember the ice pops days and feel that their teachers are caring about them.
Small things can make a big impression.

So….
I got a text from my son to say ‘Sorted’, pretty brief and to the point but as he’s on holiday I didn’t follow up.
But he’s just forwarded me another message from school to say that, due to the very hot weather, ice pops will be available free of charge at break right up to the end of the week for any children who would like one.
Lovely result and the right thing to do. I like to think that my son wasn’t the only parent to raise concerns.
I can rest easy now!!!

Hopefully JamesandJon33 that was the case today and no child has had to go without.
I have contacted my son, he says it’s not my place to have to do anything but to leave it with him. He said that all the parents have an account with school through which things like school trips, lunches, etc are paid for and that no money usually changes hands between the children themselves and the staff.
I will see what comes of it.

You would hope a Church school would respond positively to this. Our Parent Teacher Association are missing a trick selling theirs at 20p. I think it is a lovely idea of yours. I have a mental image of one child, without an ice pop, standing on their own, watching all the other children enjoying theirs.

If that happened at the school I taught at, someone would step in and buy all an ice pop. We wouldn’t see anyone go without

I agree with PP. A kind and thoughful gesture. But as OP says ice pops from a cash and carry would be very cheap for the school to fund. And such an unexpected treat for the kids whether rich or poor. Hopefullthe PTA will step in with some dosh.

I think that is a generous and thoughtful thing to do. I'd contact your son to ask if he'd mind you doing it first and if he has no objections ring the school to make your offer.
