No.

Hose is vented out the window, window is closed around a sealing kit (either provided with Aircon or purchased separately).

Or a vent is engineered in wall and hose vents through wall.

I am sleeping under a cotton sheet. 100% cotton sheet, not poly cotton. It is absorbant and cool. DD has an old linen sheet and swears by that.

The house bricks absorb the heat, so it gets more challenging to stay cool as the heatwave continues. Thankfully it’s cooled down now in mid Wales, but I tried a tip I’d found on the internet, and put frozen water bottles about 6 inches in front of a fan, which cooled down the air blowing out, and it did work, although you need a plentiful supply as they defrost in about an hour.

I would not have survived the past week without 2 fans, one up, one down. Ordinary desk fans, I bought one new when we knew the heatwave was coming and it cost £17.
Dog and I have been bored stiff, sitting in front of a fan all day, but we have not been unbearably hot.

About 10 years ago we did a total refurbishment of our house. New kitchen, bathrooms etc, but one of the best decisions was to have a ceiling fan fitted in the bedroom. It's on low all night and keeps the whole room bearable. We have 2 ceiling lights in the living room and I'm really tempted to replace them with fans.

White reflects the heat but black will absorb it and act like a radiator.

Electrical cut again third time today.

We bought a portable aircon unit this week and it’s been good enough to bring down the temperature to a bearable level. It’s a bit noisy and the tube has to go out of a window of course.

I wish we had a small courtyard! A house we looked at had one off the kitchen, surrounded by walls on all sides. So shady. I hate being indoors so much.

For me it has to be an air conditioning unit which we have in our bedroom (we do not move it about) currently 31 degrees in there but it should get down to 18/19 degrees. Fans circulate air but do not reduce room temperature whereas an air con unit works on a refrigeration cycle and reduces the temperature in the bedroom. Definitely works for us!

I have inverter air conditioning for downstairs. Great in the winter if needed fir heat but definitely doing its job in the current heat. Don't need it on all day long, think as it's pretty powerful and cools the whole area down quickly. Just as well as air conditioning is not cheap to run.

One of the fans I bought was also a Meaco as a PP said its so quiet you have to have a good look to see if its on. So you can keep it on overnight whereas the air con unit is too noisy for night time.

We have those silly windows where you can only open the very top - which I can't even reach in the downstairs rooms!
I have hung a piece of blackout material over the non-opening part.
Before we had the cats I would have left doors and windows open for a through breeze but now keep the bedroom door shut as one of them sheds so much (and I can't sleep with a cat coming and going at night!)

We have a very good shark fan. However our house is so very hot, I am thinking of getting airconditing installed in the sitting room, kitchen/dinner and the bedroom, my husband had dementia and is much worse in the heat and I hate the heat. Has anyone had ac installed and if so do you think it’s worth it? I believe the new units are very efficient and can be used as a heater in winter as well.

It's definitely cooler here today and the breeze is cooling, rather than a wave of warm air.
I don't think we'll get an AC unit & our old fan is still doing the job but as others have said, a way of covering the kitchen window (I have clip-in blinds on patio doors, but there's a wide very shallow window high above the sink which I've never felt needed covering before)

I've used a duux floor standing, silent tower fan. I like it. But read yesterday in GH that we are using them wrongly..who knew? We should be facing them towards an open window in the morning and evening/night so that the hot air in the room goes out the window. And to place a frozen bottle of water wrapped with a pillowcase in front of the fan. Otherwise we are just circulating hot air which isn't cooling the room. I did it last night and this morning and it did help with cooling.
