I’m just North of the city, Maizie and there was a steady downpour for half an hour later.
My DD’s are in the same NE postcode - one has had thunder, lightning and torrential rain, while the other had a few rumbles of thunder and no rain.

Hmm - Durham area? I bet the DGC loved it.

Wyllow3 Fri 26-Jun-26 09:15:25

Alas no.

I do love a bit of "weather"

Instead got maybe a centimetre for half an hour?

Elegran Fri 26-Jun-26 09:10:22

That 3 am one woke me too. Spectacular son et lumiere lightning strikes less than a second apart. It is again (or still) rumbling in the west. It must be Glasgow's turn.

Nothing in S Hants.

Same as York lady. A least the garden and the allotment have been watered. Sadly, it's predicted to go up to 30° again this afternoon.

YorkLady Fri 26-Jun-26 08:48:06

Just passed over us. Has 30 mins of torrential rain and massive thunderstorms.
Lovely now, fresh breeze but predicted to be back up to 30’ by noon 😫

No storms in London, I keep praying, this weather is awful, have a daughter in hospital for surgery today and just walked my GD to nursery in 28 degrees heat and the nursery is 20 mins away. Obvs she walks slowly and wouldn’t use the pram. Am dreading picking her up later. They live at the top of a steep hill.
The worry is enough but feeling like I am also drowning in my own sweat is not great.
A thunderstorm icon keeps coming up then disappearing.
Next heatwave if it hits London like this we are going to chase the cooler weather in the UK and just book somewhere for a week or so.

Grammaretto

Last night electric storms like I've not seen before. It was like a light show with claps of thunder. I opened the blinds to watch.
Then the rains came.
I'm between Edinburgh and Peebles.

I'm not far from you - as you say, it's very rare to experience a storm like that here. I've seen some amazing photos and videos on various local residents' groups.

I am in County Durham and it has come back here as well. It started around 7 then eased but has returned. It has taken me weeks to get a hair appointment so if I am struck by lightening on the way so be it.

Alone on a golden beach yesterday with the dog at 6 am European time, there was a massive white streak of lightning that came down on the sand ahead of me. I quickly turned back.
We had a few drops of rain later that afternoon, that was all.

Today we've dropped from the suffocating heights of 43° down to a breezy 23°, so I guess the storm must have happened somewhere.

ViceVersa Fri 26-Jun-26 08:31:03

It's just got very dark again here. Wouldn't be surprised if we have another one - OH and dog are out for a walk at the moment, so hopefully they will make it back before they get soaked.

N East , monsoon rain and thunderstorm at minute!

jusnoneed Fri 26-Jun-26 08:26:18

We had a lightning show late last night, we were on the edge of the worst of it (Dorset) so in the distance. Only one brief shower, it had stopped by the time the windows were pulled to.
The storm seems to of gone through the same part of Somerset as the previous one a couple days ago. At the beginning of the week a house was hit in Glastonbury, last night it hit a Care home there.

Like GrannyGravy, we had a huge storm early Tuesday. There was enough rain for the garden to be damp, and patches on pavements still yesterday. It also flooded two local supermarkets and disrupted trains.

Charleygirl5 Fri 26-Jun-26 08:17:40

Threatened in London but zilch has arrived yet.

Thundering in Durham. A few spots of rain, but it’s passing over now. It hasn’t cleared the air, or done much at all really.

I don’t know where you are in Durham, but it’s come back here and raining very heavily.

I was woken at 7 by the loudest clap of thunder I have ever heard in my life. indescribable…

I’m deeply thankful that we got our hay baled and under cover yesterday.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 26-Jun-26 08:09:43

Here in the SE we had a long and heavy thunderstorm early Tuesday morning it started at 2.50am and continued through to 7am.

Calendargirl Fri 26-Jun-26 08:08:17

I put a line of washing out at 7am, but then it turned dark so fetched it in.

Now thundering and a bit of rain.

We intend to go shopping, but waiting for it to pass.

Wazzam Fri 26-Jun-26 08:07:46

Nothing here in our area of Merseyside, no storms, no rain, just a lot of heat!

I love a good storm, hoping we might have one here for the sale of the lawn!

Anyone had thunderstorms yet? We had an absolutely epic one around 3am this morning. It was right overhead - the thunder was deafening and the lightning was awesome. I actually thought there had been a gas explosion or something as it was so loud. We don't often get storms like that in this neck of the woods.
The rain which followed was biblical - although fortunately didn't last long. Apparently a house just a couple of miles away was hit by the lightning - saw pics on a local residents' forum of the fire.
