Just woken up at 3.00 due to heat and am a bit hungry as re started diet having put on two stone after losing six. Then looked at news and been horribly depressed! Felt sorry for the woman who at 72 had all her pensions stopped because the DWP had received formation she had died! Also, reading about Venezuela those poor, poor people..

Yes, I'm awake.
Just lugged a big, heavy fan up and down my hall, and got overwrought with the heat.
I don't know what to do with myself, I'm so hot

Thunder and lightening now! I’m scared of storms, I should know better at my age 71!

MissAdventure Sat 27-Jun-26 04:41:07

We've got lightning, too, but no thunder yet.
Lots of people are afraid of it; it seems like natures way of reminding us its actually in charge, I think.
The thunder here a few nights ago was the loudest I've ever heard; i thought it was an out of control lorry careering down the road or sonething.

I’m awake because, on top of the heat I’ve been bitten by mozzies and I’m itching all over. Have smothered myself with Jungle Formula but worried that the dog will lick it.

MissAdventure Sat 27-Jun-26 04:57:05

Oh I hate the mozzies!
Horrible things, drinking our blood, with so much as a by your leave.

I’m awake because there’s a very vocal pigeon cooing outside my bedroom window. Thankfully it’s been a cooler night here and I actually slept well 🙏
I do hope today is cooler, I’m dreading future heatwaves which are going to be longer and hotter according to the Met Office.
DH is just taking tiddler out, both dogs will be walked by 7am.
Then another day of trying to keep them and us cool.

MissAdventure Sat 27-Jun-26 05:05:44

It doesn't feel cooler here, its made feel quite unwell.
No sign of any rain, either.
My legs are so swollen they feel like they're going to split - I thought I was going have to weary slippers to a hospital appt yesterday!

Can't sleep too hot, opened windows and had a moth in one room and wasp in another. Batted moth out the door. I closed windows and used wasp spray, which I hate. Wasp has gone but where is it? Now sitting in lounge waiting for dawn so i can go out and water the plants. This is the worst night.

Been awake for the last hour or so. A, now drinking TIB, all windows are wide open, my front door too, in the hope of letting cool air in.
Fortunately, I’ve got no commitments today, but it’s still going to be a long day.

<<waves>>
I’ve been awake for an hour or so, I seem to wake up every morning at pretty much the same time 3.25am, no reason why 🙄
It’s very quiet here, the windows are open wide, lovely cool air.
A hot trip for a hospital appointment later this afternoon, I’ll be on tenterhooks all day, fidgeting and restless until I know when my operation will be….
A long day here too grandMattie x

I’ve been awake for a while. The gulls are in full shout and it is quite foggy. DH is snoring, very, very, loudly. No chance of getting back to sleep now.

grandMattie Thu 09-Jul-26 05:10:46

roses, I hoping to have a post-prandial nap. And me too, I wake up most days around that time. Some rare days, I manage another hour.
All the very best for your hospital appointment, BRI or southmead?

Thank you!
Luckily it’s at the RUH but surgery will be BRI, not easy to get to from here.

I got up at 20 to 4 but don’t touch Gransnet until much later. I took my dog down to the river before 6 and we both paddled under the willows.
We passed 6 people out that early, all men. Are there more male larks than female? The BBC says women feel the heat much worse than men.

Heat haze at 5 am very thick, but cleared bt around half past. Walked our dog down and round the field at 06.30. 5 women including me, out early to avoid the heat, though it was already 24° by 07.15. Thank heavens for trees.
