What time do you get up the morning. I usually get up around 8.00 but it can be a movable feast. My DH is strictly regimental about it and always gets up at 6.30. If he leaves it till 6.45 he has got up ‘late’ and has wasted the day.

Minibookworm Wed 01-Jul-26 17:28:04

Any time between 6.30 & 7.30 usually. Once I’m awake I get up. The exception is most Sundays when DH makes a cuppa and brings it back to bed for us.

Awake about 7, MrJ brings tea when he wakes up, usually within 20 minutes, up about 7:45, straight into the shower, downstairs soon after.

twiglet77 Tue 30-Jun-26 21:49:23

I get up when the dogs ask to go out, usually between 7 and 8.

ginny Tue 30-Jun-26 19:54:52

Generally up between 7 - 7.30 am.
If I am not going anywhere particular I’ll often not be dressed before around 11 preferring to do household jobs before showering.

Menopauselbitch Tue 30-Jun-26 10:20:57

I go to sleep when I’m tired it could be 12 or 3am and wake up when my body eats to, it could be 9 it could be 11.

'Now you're retired' Why the assumption that Grans must be retired? I'm aged 70+ and run my own business.

I can't believe I'm the only Gran on here who hasn't retired?

👋 still working here.

No you're not the only one who hasn't retired 👋

We take it in turns to get up at 6.30 as we have a dog. I'm usually out the house by 7.45 to swim any week day.

ruthiek Mon 29-Jun-26 17:53:04

Sallywally 1 I have one of those too , it’s a nightmare! We have started swimming 3 times a week but we have to go at 7 am so means getting up at 6 😡 he feels he is losing a lot of the day if he is up after 6.30 , god help us! But I look at the other side I would rather that than not have that every morning

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 29-Jun-26 17:16:43

I go to bed at 10 pm and read until between 11.30 and midnight. I usually pop to the loo around 5 am and doze until around 8 am. I like to be showered, dressed and downstairs by 8.30 am. OH has his own room. He goes to bed after 11 pm and is up and down throughout the night. He snores, has restless legs syndrome and needs the loo frequently. He is usually downstairs by 10.30 am.

The only time I eat in bed is if I’m unwell. For my 60th, younger son bought me one of those special trays with collapsible legs.

SillyNanny321 Mon 29-Jun-26 17:07:50

Doesnt matter what time I go to bed or fall asleep I still wake for the loo around 2-3am. By the time I have fed my hungry cat & got back to bed it can be anywhere up to 6.30 before my brain shuts off again. Of course then sense tells me get up & start the day but oh no sleep grabs me & I wake again around 8.30-9am wishing I did not have to get up but feeling guilty if I do not get up. By then anyway Cookie has decided he is starving as he has no wet food down & biscuit is not breakfast! So I do as he tells me ( he is boss ) & start the day with his breakfast! I’ve forgotten what it was like to sleep all night! My Nan used to have similar problems & said it was one of the ‘pleasures’ of getting old but that it beat the alternative 😂

Skallywag Mon 29-Jun-26 17:01:07

I’m an owl. So 9am to 10am. Even later if I want to and no going anywhere. Don’t go to bed/sleep till 2/3am.

62Granny Mon 29-Jun-26 16:55:53

I wake hopefully around 7, (sometimes earlier) make myself a cuppa and take it back to bed, DH is very restless during the night and
likes to lie in, so unless we have an appointment we usually get up around 8.30-9.00. I like to scroll FB on my phone and send a WhatsApp to our DD and DGS, saying good morning.

First there was a rustle,
A floating in the blue,
The curly, flying, magic dot,
Came darting into view!
So raise a glass of grammar,
Let all your shouting cease,
The errant little squiggly mark
Has brought the world sweet peace.

Juicylucy Mon 29-Jun-26 16:43:33

Around 8.30

Blimey, your DH sounds like mine, except mine is up by about 5; reckons I "waste half the day" by sleeping in til 8 but as I point out to him, I am not then falling asleep during the day/early evening whereas he does - frequently
I have been retired just over 2 months and no regrets

I wish I needed an alarm to wake me as I have an inbuilt one, unfortunately.
My brain usually pings into action between five and six am.
I absolutely do not want to wake that early, but have no choice.

I lay there for goodness knows how long before realising that’s it’s no good, I may as well get up and have a cup of tea and take it back to bed.
Usually around eight am.

JakeysGranny Mon 29-Jun-26 15:21:09

NotSpaghetti

Gosh. So many larks!
I'm an owl.
I might occasionally wake at 6.30 but I'd definitely go back to sleep until 8am.
I have no desire to "leap out of bed". Ever!
grin

Glad it’s not just me 🤭 I’ve never been a lark - definitely an owl and I’m enjoying being able to get up whenever I like now I’m retired

Samsara1 Mon 29-Jun-26 15:02:58

We have morning green tea around 6.30, scour the BBC news, read a book for an hour and get up at 8am on most days.

LemonJam Mon 29-Jun-26 14:59:02

I'm more of an owl than a lark. I'm semi retired but usually set my alarm for 7.45. Generally wake up just before the alarm goes off but not always.

In current hot weather I'm finding it difficult to sleep- On Saturday night could not sleep at all- so I read for a bit then got stuck into a Netflix series and didn't sleep at all throughout the night or yesterday until dropping off last night around 11pm. Slept through till 7.45 😴😊

HobbyCat Mon 29-Jun-26 14:48:02

I haven’t retired and have to wait until I am 67 in five years.

Casdon Mon 29-Jun-26 14:45:20

I’m seasonal, I get up early in the summer, to get the housework done so I can get outside or on with other things. In the winter I get up, let the dog out and feed him, then have my first coffee in bed.

Harris27 Mon 29-Jun-26 14:41:12

Newly retired just get up when I wake up.

Tooyoungytobeagrandma Mon 29-Jun-26 14:40:46

When I first retired I was still getting up early to walk my dogs. They looked at me sideways sometimes waking them for walks. After 6 months or so if I woke around 7am I'd make a coffee and go back to bed u til the dogs wanted out. Now there's just me and new DH and sometimes we don't wake until after 9am, then have coffee in bed, discuss our plans for the day and actually get up around 10/10.30 am. Once up we usually go for a walk and enjoy another coffee and sometimes brunch out. Retirement is the best job I've ever had 😊
