1st July

England are into the knockout stages of the football world cup and the games kicks off at 5pm.
Make sure you do all your shopping in the morning before the shelves are emptied of alcohol

Sago

I make a lot of butter bean hummus/houmous/hommus/humus.

I may make some baba ganoush/baba ganoush/baba ghanouj/baba ganoug for a change.

See what I did there?

Yes I beat the pedants!

😉

Do you have a favourite recipe you could share?

I know I can look it up, but if you make a lot of it - it might be more interesting than recipes on the 'net smile

Baba ganoush...
I must go and look that up.

Tahini suggestions? It's so delish, there's an awful lot it can be used for, not just hummus and baba ganoush. It would be a great deal of help with lots of (easy) food which you're going to need to help soak up some of your fridge contents. It's summer, relax and have fun. 🥂

MissAdventure Sun 28-Jun-26 12:45:36

You could make a slightly bitter, nutty tasting humous, apparently.
Thats what AI says. smile

It'd go nicely with some of your drinks stock.

Are you sure, there, Sago?
grin

Any suggestions as to what we could do with the rogue jar of tahini?

I think it’s a new competition - Nations League 🏈

England are playing at 5pm on Wednesday, I’m not sure why would you need to avoid the pub at lunchtime, as I expect most people will just finish work early and get there about 4.30?

That's worse[in my opinion] than a wedding around here yesterday.
I thought, they will lose their guests, later in the evening.

There has been empty shelves this last week due to heat, not football. My local supermarkets have had broken down fridges and freezers due to the heat. Two were closed due to flooding after Tuesday's storm. Supermarket deliveries have also been cancelled or delayed.

fancythat Sun 28-Jun-26 11:37:45

Oh dear.

Luckygirl3 Sun 28-Jun-26 11:32:43

I am desperate for England to lose a match! - my DD and her OH have sunk £10,000s in the festival they run - it is their livelihood - and we definitely do NOT want England in the final or they will face a financial disaster.

fancythat Sun 28-Jun-26 11:28:16

Our shop wouldnt empty of alcohol.
But there is always a definite change on the roads. They go eerily quiet.

MawsRosie Sun 28-Jun-26 11:21:50

☹️☹️☹️

MawsRosie

Could OP please stop being so self-righteous and bossy?
If it’s meant to be ironic or amusing, it stopped being funny a long time ago.

I think the OP is hilarious, he can certainly spark discussions.

Sago

Just checked my drinks fridge, as it’s just the two of us I think we should be OK for the game.

Thanks for the tip though😉

Up until I was in my late fifties I used to absolutely love watching football and tennis on the television but then suddenly I went right off sport. My friend is a real football fan. He does a lot for me, so when he comes to see me (every day), I let him watch the matches on tv while I read my book.

Aveline Sun 28-Jun-26 10:40:30

Oh God. Football and tennis? Nooo. Think I'll hibernate till it's all over. I'll go out and stock up right now.

Grammaretto Sun 28-Jun-26 10:38:05

Ooh I don't know sago 😅 though it looks like there's bubbly at the ready

I'm more of a tennis fan myself.
Scotland are out of the footie as ever
But their fans are still remembered in Boston says my American cousin.
Here's the local tribute in my town in Scotland.

Didn't even know there was a game last night. What sport?

Jaxjacky Sun 28-Jun-26 10:28:28

Our pub and others locally were packed for the game last night, no warning for that and as far as I know shelves of alcohol in the village were fine. No ice creams though.
