Words you don’t often see now.

My two sons looked puzzled when I said 'nowadays'.
Super. I haven't heard that for a while.
Fellow. Chap . Geezer. Bloke. These seem to have gone now as everyone is a guy.

How do you do?

right-oh!

Flabbergasted! -Utterly shocked!

Discombobulated - Completely confused!

I grew up using the words "Golly gosh!" when I was genuinely surprised at something - but, one fine day, someone sternly pointed out that the Golly bit was highly reprehensible.

Then the 'friendship', such as it was, collapsed on the day I pointed out that she was holding her knife like a pencil.

Tra la!

A lot of apparently innocent expressions had reprehensible origins.
Quite right to correct her on cutlery! 😁

At work, a few years ago, a young woman didn't know what a dozen was.

Flibbertigibbet
Floozie
(two of my favourites)

rapscallion
cad and bounder!

Blimey - I’m still using most of these!!

Trollop is one of my favourites.

I asked for a bitter shandy the other day at a bar and the young barman hadn’t heard of a shandy. Turned out he didn’t know bitter either (and hadn’t got any). I feel so old.

Ask for an old fashioned next time.

Goodness me! Which has been ditched in favour of F**k by anyone under 50.

Fortnight. It’s two weeks now.

Twice, which has become two times as in ‘I went to the supermarket two times today.’

I think I’m obsessed with the number two.

Scram....recent crossword clue otherwise long consigned to the lexicon of schooldays

Scoundrel, vagabond and a strange one my horrible narcissistic mother used………..guttersnipe.

Apparently it was what I was to become!

Oh, my word

Pernod & blackcurrant - asked for it in a bar recently and they'd never heard of Pernod.

Blimey O’Reilly (another one). I’d have expected to get a whiskey cocktail if I’d asked for that. With Angostura Bitters, which have probably also left the bar.

Groovy

I still say righty-ho

Scallywag! I use that a lot

Dunce
Nitwit
Nincompoop

Slacks
Fox fur

Twerp - I read it in a Stella Gibbons book recently and remembered my father using it, particularly on my brothers! Haven’t heard anyone actually say it in years.

My grandkids nearly chocked on their food when I was talking about my Nans gloryhole Well I didn’t know then that it had a WHOLE new meaning.
I now would say ‘her cupboard under the stairs’ to avoid confusion with its new meaning
