Words I hate!

‘You guys’ when addressing a mixed sex group of over 65s!
Especially when uttered by some over-perky 18 year old who doesn’t know any better.

(No need to tell me I’m turning into a GOB (Grumpy old Bag) - I’m well aware, thanks!)

All swear words (unnecessary and insulting).
‘Take care’ - why wouldn’t I?! 🤔

Love, hun, dear, lovey, darling, sweet.
Influencers.
Babes.
Cheers.
Vacation.
For sure.
Like…like…like, etc.
So… at the beginning of every sentence.
How are you? - From someone you don’t know, as if they care. 🙄
Rising intonation at the end of a sentence when no question is being asked. 🙃

Forty years ago I felt the same about 'partner' in that context, but nowadays it feels 100% acceptable/normal to me.

Aveline Funny you should say that, because I've noticed that being used a lot lately and find it irritating. My daughter says it. I prefer buffet!
Loads of American ones, if that is allowed?! My daughter now annoyingly says "can I get?" instead of "can I have" in a restaurant/bar.
Most of the TV programmes and films seem to be American, so some awful phrases and words are creeping into our language. The pronunciation is another matter!

I hate ‘belly’ too, except for in ‘belly dancer/dancing, when anything else would sound daft.

Picky bits is what we've always called buffet food, so nothing new in that phrase for me!

I really don’t like so many ‘sleeps’ instead of so many nights. Even to children it sounds cringeworthy and patronising. I dislike ‘passing’ for ‘passing on’ or plain old dying. There’s no gilding that Lily!

'we are pregnant' from a couple announcing the news - if its a male and female couple, only one of them can be pregnant.
And the word lovveee - I presume it's still pronounced love?

In my experience, love and lovvee are pronounced differently.

I have a friend who says ‘ are you joking me!’ Rather than are you playing a joke or similar … grates on me!!

Gifted - seems to be used all the time now as in "I was gifted this bottle of wine". No one seems to get a present anymore!

I will never say someone “passed” ( what? an exam or test ?) or “passed away” rather than died. When did that euphemism creep in?

I don't mind that. It sounds less harsh than "died". I hate the word "dead". I'm sensitive about it, probably because my 6 year old son passed away from cancer in 1980 and it haunts me daily.

I'm the same regarding "pass".
Whatever their loved ones choose to say is ok by me.
Sometimes i can say died, sometimes I can't.

I commit the cardinal sin of saying I lost my daughter, too.

62Granny I cannot bear videos where people keep pointing their finger at something, and where there is a miniature person (the one who has posted the video) in the corner nodding along to the video at salient points and they don't stay still either. Drives me crazy!
I also hate the word influencer and I hate influencers. Load of rubbish. They're usually plastic women with trout pout pumped up lips, fake tans, fake boobs. If they have a large following they usually get loads of free products to review, but how genuine are the reviews when they are getting them for nothing, so can hardly say bad things about them. It's all so fake.
