Words I hate!

‘You guys’ when addressing a mixed sex group of over 65s!
Especially when uttered by some over-perky 18 year old who doesn’t know any better.

(No need to tell me I’m turning into a GOB (Grumpy old Bag) - I’m well aware, thanks!)

I can't stand 'picky bits'! This seems to be advertised in all supermarkets at the moment.

I dislike the phrase picky bits . It feels like they are infantilising us .
It’s either a buffet , picnic or cold cuts .

I know it's a regional thing but my teeth are on edge when someone calls a scone (rhymes with cone) as a scon (rhymes with gone) I always correct them but then hate myself for doing it.

I once knew someone who used to say will you do me a flavour instead of favour, she thought this was hysterical but it used to really get on my nerves she sounded so childish.

I don’t like the word cute and I’m tired of listening to a variety of people calling everything amazing or amaz.

I hate "bless" too, usually said as "bl e e e ss" with elongated e. Partner is irritating to me too, I'm married, to me it means more.
I don't mind "picky bits" though I'm not so keen on nibbles - I know it is common parlance now and has been for years.
And "haitch", though my adopted grandchildren do say it and I have to bite my tongue....

Oh dear, I didn't find more than a few amongst all the suggestion that don't really bother me. Most I am a nodding away thinking 'Yes!!!

I hate the word grisle! If I'm watching a sad film DS will look at me and say "you're not grisling are you?". Hate it, reminds me of gristle you find in meat.

Whenever we have this thread, which i love, I always contribute 'haitch'. I don't think anything makes my blood boil as much.

Perfectly legitimate, non euphemistic, grammatical term whether you like it or not.

My family all said picky bits before it was thing and still do.
My H and my parents also died, my friend rang me on Saturday to tell me a mutual friend had passed away, I was tempted to ask if she had died but it seemed harsh so I kept it back.

''Chowing down'' instead of eating.

''Holibobs'' instead of Holidays.

''Xmas'' and ''Crimbo'' instead of Christmas - this is coming from me, an atheist!

''Icky tummy'' instead of bad stomach.

''Kibble'' as in pet food. I call it nibbles.

''Vacay'' and ''stacation''.

When someone calls me ''young lady'' no matter what my age, I find it SO condescending and patronising!
