Words I hate!

Don't use it- don't mind it.

I used to hate "babe" the younger generation used when I first came out- but don't mind it now. Language evolves and words and phrases come in and out of fashion- such is life. We each choose our own communication style 🤷‍♀️

Bless, as in ah bless, so patronising.
Kiddies or kids.
Orangery to describe a conservatory.
Hollybobs.

Not to me.
It means whatever i can dredge up out of the fridge and cupboards, when I've not got much.
So, a lot of the things won't necessarily go together.
Its not stuff i would buy just to do picky bits.

Does anyone remember Mrs Rumpole who used to provide what I think were called "little cheesy bits" for Chambers parties? Think I would prefer that to "picky bits", but I suppose it wouldn't cover anything not involving cheese...

If you want to sound important just add an "ology" on the end. It works for nearly everything! (Knee-ology, Book-ology, me, myself i am a Do-ologist!)? Try it and see if anyone notices!

It's used to describe how someone might find something emotionally upsetting. To me it is still the name of Roy Rogers horse or the chap from Only Fools And Horses!

I called them 'nibbly bits', which I thought sounded better than nibbles, but I suppose it just means 'finger food' which actually sounds as bad, and once they were known as 'cocktail savouries' when we thought we were being really sophisticated.

A bit like a picnic *Calendargirl. We call it a picky tea, mostly bought at M&S.
Baked Camembert, crusty breads, various cooked meats, olives, sun dried or fresh tomatoes, hummus - whatever you fancy really to ‘pick at’. Cutlery optional!

I don't like it either, I think it sounds awful. Babyish and worse still too close to nose picking.

Another awful expression imo is "gives me the 'ick"
